Part 18

Raadha--Murlimanohar

Krishna Sat Quietly For A Few Minutes Giving Everyone Around Him An Impression, As If He Was Very Sorry For His Deeds. But As Soon As Mother Yashoda Was Out Of Sight, He Jumped Up And Looked Around For Some Mischief Which Could 'Teach His Mother A Lesson'. Suddenly He Spotted The Yamal-Arjun Trees At A Corner Of The Courtyard. He Made Up His Mid To Uproot Them. He Thought, "Those Trees Will Then Fall, And Everything Will Become A Mess ! Then Only Mummy Will Untie Me, And I'll Take My Revenge From The Gopis, And Yes, This Would Increase Maiya's Works Too !" But There Was The Problem, How Would He Move The Mortar ? It Was Too Big For Him ! But Why ? He Had All The Powers Of The Universe, So He Could Easily Do That. So, He Fell On His Knees, And Started To Crawl. The Heavy Mortar Also Fell And Came After Him. Kanha Tried To Pull The Mortar Through Those Trees, But The The Mortar Was Too Great To Pass Through Them. Eventually, Both The Trees Fell With A Great Thud. Two Gods Emerged Our Of Them. They Bowed To The Supreme Lord. Kanha Put On His Best Face Of Fear And Said, "W-who Are You ? M-m-agicians ? Wait I'll Call My Brother, He'll Beat You Up ! DAU !!" One Of Them Said, "No ! Wait, We Are Nalkuver And Manigreev. We Had Been Cursed By Sage Narad To Stay As Trees Until The Great Lord, Which Is You, Frees Us. Please Have Mercy On Us !"

Krishna Smiled Now, "Yes. I Am Lord Vishnu. And You May Leave. Take Care, Do Not Again Get Into Habits That Shall Get You Into Such Troubles." And He Again Shrunk To His Sweet And Naughty Form, "Now, Get Lost, Or I'll Call My Brother." And The Two Demigods Vanished.

All The Servants, Yashoda And Rohini Ran Out To See A Huge Mess, Exactly As Krishna Had Wished. Tears Immediately Poured Out Of Yashoda's Eyes As She Spotted The Mortar In The Most Dangerous Position. But To Her And Everyone Else's Relief Kanha Emerged Out, With A Single Leaf Hanging From His Black And Curly Hair. Yashomati Went And Lifted Him At Once. She Cried, "Oh My Sweet Damodar. I'll Never Again Scold You, Let Alone Tying You !" Without Replying Krishna Jumped To Nand Who Had Reached On Getting The News.

Later That Day, Nandrai Received A Letter, That Had Come From Barsana, A Neighboring Village. He Read Out Aloud, " 'Dear Nandrai, I Have Been Blessed With A Beautiful Ayonija (Born Without A Mother And Father) Girl, Who Will Be Known As My Daughter, As Per Sage Narad's Instructions. I Would Be Greatly Obliged To You If You Would Please Visit Us For The Naming Ceremony Of This Child. Yours Truly, King Brishbhanu.' What Do You Say Yashoda ?" "Obviously, We Should Go. Kanha And Raam Will Also Get To Visit A New Place, And Who Knows ? Maybe, We Can Later On Speak About Kanha's Marriage ?" Replied Yashoda While Arranging Their Wardrobe.

Next Day, They Started Off For Barsana. Rohini Stayed Back To Take Care Of The Household. Balraam Had To Go Even Though He Hated To. Krishna Had Said To Him, "Dau, I Feel A Bit, You Know, Clumsy, After All I'm Going To Meet My To-be-wife. God Knows How Beautiful She Would Be ?" Yes, They Had Been Eavesdropping As Usual.

It Seemed As If Mother Earth Had Dressed Herself Up With One Of Her Best Dresses, After All She Was Witnessing Her Daughter's (From Seeta) Naming Ceremony. Yashoda Went Up To The Swing To Meet Her Friend, Queen Keertikumari, And To Have A Look At The Girl. Kanha And Balraam Were Already Busy Dancing And Clapping To The Drums, While Nandrai Chatted With The King. The Girl Was Named Raadha. Yashoda Leaned Over To Caress The Baby And Was Shocked. She Looked Into Keertikumari's Eyes. They Were Moist. The Girl Was Blind. Yashoda Immediately Embraced Her Friend, As Tears Flowed From Both Of Their Eyes.

Amidst The Celebrations, Everyone Became Engrossed In Enjoying, While Krishna, Unnoticed By All, Went Up To The Cot. He Put His Index Finger On The Palm Of The 'Sleeping', Who At Once Held It And Both Of Them Giggled. The Blind Girl Opened Her Eyes, And Her First Sight Was Krishna, The Naughty Boy. She Clapped And Made Inexplicable Sounds In Happiness. That Amused Krishna Further, And They Were Soon Lost In Their Own Cute Games. They Did Not Even See The Two Sets Of Parents Smiling Affectionately. Keertikumari Almost Fell To Krishna's Feet, Thanking Him For Healing Her Daughter.

On Their Way Back, In The Bullock-carriage, Yashoda Was Telling Balraam The Story Of Prahlaad, While Kanha Was Playfully Boxing With Nandrai. Suddenly He Shouted, "I WANT THAT STICK !" Yashoda Glared Back, "Kanha ! Bad Manners ! You Don't Beat Your Father With Stick !" Balraam Smiled And Pointed Towards A Flute-sellar, "Choti Maa, I Think He Wants Those Flutes."

Nandrai Was Pretty Amused, "What Will You Do With A Flute ?"

The Tears Welled Up In Kanha's Eyes, And Yashoda Quickly Pulled Him Close To Her, And Knowing Her Son's Decibels Very Well, She Said, "How Much Will It Cost, Buy One For Kanha ! He Want's It."

"Okay, O FLUTE-SELLER !! Come This Way. Driver Stop The Carriage." Said Nand.

The Flute-seller Said, "You ? Do You Know How To Play Even ?"

"If I Play, Will You Give Me ?" Krishna Was Calm And Composed.

"Yes Of Course. Here, Take This. Play ?"

Kanha Called Out In His Mind, "Devi Saraswati, Save My Face !" As He Put The Flute To His Lips. An Unparalleled Music Came Out. Keeping His Eyes Fixed To The Sky, Kanha Played On. As He Played, Newer Melodies Came Out And Filled The Air. A Few Peacocks Came Out And Started Dancing In The Sunshine. Balraam Moved Krishna's Anklet Bells To Music. Tears Streamed Out Of The Flute-seller's Eyes, As He Danced With The Peacocks.

As Soon As Krishna Stopped, The Peacocks Fled, And He Said, "Can I Have It Know ? Or Did Play Very Bad Music ?"

"No No My Child ! Take This. This One Is The Best Flute I Have, See, There Are Stones Engraved On It. Take ? Brother, I Don't Want Any Money, Your Son Has Already Given Me What I Needed." Said The Flute-seller.

"No Uncle, I Will Take My One, This Bamboo One, That One Is Bad. Too Many Stones ! This One Is Good."

On Reaching Home, Yashoda Could Only Say This Much, "Who Taught You This, Damodar ?"

"Mother Saraswati. I Prayed To Her. And She Taught Me." Krishna Flung His Uttariya (Upper Garment) At Yashoda And Went Away Whistling.
