The number 7 is an important aspect in Hinduism, has many significance's and is recognized as a sacred and spiritual number. It is one of the most used numbers and is a symbolic representation of various divine concepts and philosophies of Hindu Sanatana Dharma. It represents the 7 days of a week, the 7 colours in a rainbow VIBGYOR, sapta swaras in Music, Sapta Rishis, Sapta Nadhis (7 Rivers) and so on.
It also represents the 7 Shaktis that correspond to the 7 Chakras that are present in our body. The Sun God or the Agni Bhagavan traverses the world in a chariot drawn by 7 horses. During the holy matrimony, the couple is made to take 7 steps around the fire or Agni Kund and each step has a meaning. By walking around the fire 7 times, the couple are bound together in marriage for 7 lifetimes.
The first time, Ashlok got married, Agni Bhagawan was present but don't think they took the sapta padis or 7 steps around the fire. During the formal marriage, all rites and rituals were observed and they took the 7 steps which bound them together for 7 lifetimes the first time. Then the Vat Savitri Puja came when Aastha kept the fast for the long and healthy life of her husband and Shlok was also particulate that she keep it. He also kept the fast along with her, thereby stating his intent of tying her to him for 7 lifetimes again and did so by tying the twine around her itself as Aastha did to the tree. He completely overwhelmed her by tying the string and keeping fast and his mother was a witness to his avowal and love for his wife.
Then when Jyoti got married, the two were playing the stranger track. They were asked to do the Kanyadaan for Jyoti instead of NA and Anjali. When Aastha overheard the panditji telling Anjali that Jyoti was getting married at a really auspicious time and day and that the confluence of the stars and the planets was such that whoever got married that day or a mere exchange of garlands between couples would ensure that they would be tied for 7 lifetimes and happily live together. AAsttha got a varmala and garlanded Shlok her husband whom she loved very much and stated it EBP and this TIME ASKED HER LOVING PATHIDEV IF HE WOULD CONSENT TO BE HER HUSBAND FOR 7 LIFETIMES TO WHICH SHLOK CLOSED HER MOUTH WITH HIS PALM AND SHOOK HIS HEAD AND SAID AS MUCH, BY GARLANDING HER WITHIN THE SAME VARMALA THAT SHE HAD PUT, ENVELOPING HER IN HIS EMBRACE AND VARMALA AND PROCEEDED TO KISS HER EYES, HER CHEEKS AND HER FOREHEAD.
As Chitss wrote in one of my threads, it also means the 7 planes of consciousness, 7 worlds. The earth is in the middle with 3 above and 3 below it, signifying the higher and lower worlds. The number 7 is also associated with the 7 CHAKRAS or the MULADHARA CHAKRAS in a human body, which are distributed from the crown or top of the head to the root or the base of the spinal cord. Each of these 7 chakras have a special meaning and colour associated with it.
Shlok's favorite color is blue and this color is associated with the throat chakra. He needs to focus inwardly, reflect on the recent happenings, bring to the surface any repressed or suppressed feelings or emotions or memories and make peace with that and let it go like he did with the remnants of Swati's articles that he had stored. The brooch or pin that Aastha gave him as a gift during Jyoti's wedding had 7 petals in it. It was made of white stone or diamonds and just a diamond reflects pure bright light, Aastha is the one bringing light into his life. Shlok maybe hard on the surface like a diamond and anyone opposing him will get hurt like how a diamond scratches any surface.
It has other meanings in Islam and Christianity too but I did not delve into those, but suffice to say that it an important number and has many facets to it.
Hope Aastha and Shlok are able to work out their difficulties and that truth prevails and triumphs over their ego. We are with you on this journey of yours.
P.S.
Thanks to Rekha and Sri for pointing out some imp meanings to the number, namely in numerology where it means the Truth, the seeker of the hidden truth, nothing is what it seems. Also in the Tree of Life, it has 7 branches, each branch indicting fertility, renewal, growth, strength, redemption, protection, beauty and wisdom.
Each of the qualities represented by the Tree of Life is very much essential for Ashlok to find happiness and peace in their marriage.
