So I haven't been following Jhalak closely this season but...words cannot adequately describe how over-the-moon excited I was to see Faisal performing on Jhalak this week. And oh my, it was so so worth it! His Banjaara solo performance was mesmerizing, to say the least, and brought back so many fond memories of his glorious DID days The standing ovation he received as well as the awe and appreciation of judges and contestants alike made me so giddy as I watched that I even let out a "I LOVE YOU FAISAL!" with a huge grin on my face 😃😆
What makes Faisal stand out as a dancer among the rest is the rare pureness in his face, kind of like a light within, something you can only be born with. When he dances, it's with his entire being. You can feel the emotion emanating from every part of his body and that is purely magical. He emotes just as well as he dances, a mark of a true performer and future superstar.
So as much as I loved his solo (and watched it about 20 times on repeat 😆), I can't say the same for Mouni's Teen Ka Tadka.
I was hoping Punit would come up with a truly brilliant performance for Mouni and Faisal. Unfortunately, I was disappointed when I realized that his choreography was a ripoff of Mia Michael's absolutely breathtaking piece "This Bitter Earth/On the Nature of Daylight" from SYTYCD. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, go ahead and check it out on Youtube, it's amazing. For that piece, Mia did justice with her choreography to each person's role as the child, the young man, and the old man. And tied all 3 roles so wonderfully together.
Punit's choreography, as KJo rightly mentioned, did not do justice throughout to the trio's distinctive roles. And it's a shame that Faisal's talent and Mouni's potential were wasted because of the simple choreography. I don't know if it's because Mouni's afraid of taking risks or Punit is, but I really wish he would push her boundaries as a dancer because Mouni can totally dance. And she deserves to grow with this opportunity.
OK, this post has gotten long enough now 😆 Just wanted to gush over Faisal and share my thoughts about the trio act. I'm curious to know...what did you guys think?
