Surprised that 'Chashmish' is still used as an insult

Genuinely asking here, but do people in the real world still tease others for having glasses by saying things like "Chashmish" or "Four eyes"? Not really commenting on the show - but when I was growing up I never really saw kids or people in general get teased for having glasses. Is it actually a thing or a TV/movie type thing?

It's common enough mostly in school. Ask anyone wearing glasses. It's done in an affectionately teasing manner. But no one keeps threatening to punch someone in the face as lightly as Abhi does to his wife even as a joke.

Honestly this baffles me. I've never seen this happen in real life. MAYBE once or twice back in early elementary school, like under the age of 10 someone might've said four eyes, and maaaybe occasionally in a flirting kind of way when older. But the way the show has of seriously presenting Pragya as less attractive because she wears glasses, and of Abhi & co literally defining her by her wearing of glasses...makes no sense to me at all. Not a real life phenomenon in my experience. Like dude...40-60% of people seem to wear glasses these days.

That being said...I've never lived where the show is set or where the writers are from, sooo maybe that's the difference...

Sidenote - on the Bengali channel Star Jalsha, like more than 1/2 of characters have glasses; I don't think they could ever adapt this show in the same way for that channel 😆
