Queen 2 Tanu Weds Manu 3 Get Rolling
My dear Kunchu,
These 3 chapters Nos. 18-20, read like a symphony of fear. Not the commonplace fear for one's own existence, but the far greater fear of loss, the loss of one's loved ones, of those one cares for. Truly has the poet said He who hath a child has given a hostage to fortune. For "child", read loved one(s), and you have it dead right for your characters.
There is, in the first place, Kiran (why are you calling him Kiren ?), who is like a prophet who has lost his faith halfway. While he was being steadily transformed, by Sikandar, from a techie greedy for the good life into a conscienceless killer, Kiran was clinging to his hatred of Avni to cushion himself from the accusations of his conscience. Over the years, that small, still voice of his aatma died away.
But now, the ghosts of the past have resurfaced with a vengeance, and Kiran is forced to rebel against Sikandar's plans to destroy everyone who is now close to Arjun, which includes his daughter Anjali. True to his nature, for him there are no half measures, and he defies Sikandar with the same ferocity and singlemindedness with which he served him earlier.
His love for his child, and also for Avni, is perhaps the single trait in Kiran now that can save him from damnation, just as Angulimaal was saved by the Lord Buddha. So great is this love that he desperately seeks the acceptance of his victim (well, passively, if not actively) Arjun, as well as that of his enemy, Sameer Rathod, and repeatedly offers them his vital help to get at Sikandar. For now, he has been rebuffed by Arjun, but he will persist, and Rathore is more receptive, so Kiran will not lose hope.
Kunchu, I loved the passage when Kiran gets out of the car, falls to his knees, throws back his head and screams aloud in helpless anguish and guilt. I was irresistibly reminded of Hrithik Roshan's Altaf in Mission Kashmir, when he finds out that he has blown up his beloved foster mother with a bomb meant for her husband.
Next there is Arjun, wracked by the fear that his very presence close to them would be the kiss of death for Sameer, Karan, Simi, and above all Anjali. The sense of vindication he feels when, at long last, Kiran confirms that Sikandar exists, as an intensely malefic entity, and is now back in Mumbai, is soon clouded by fear of what Sikandar would do to those whom he, Arjun , cares for. Whence his angry demands that Rathore leave him at once, and he surely plans the same for Anjali and Avni.
It would have been logical for Arjun to have accepted Kiran's help in trying to locate and get at Sikandar. That he refuses Kiran's undoubtedly genuine offer of help is, however, understandable. For Arjun, Kiran is the murderer, at one remove,of his beloved Roshni, and he would as soon sup with the devil as work with Kiran. One only hopes that he is persuaded to move away from this rigid refusal, for sticking to it would be definitely counterproductive, not just for Arjun but for all of them.
Lastly there are Anjali, beset by a gnawing fear that her father, now there after so many years of hopeless waiting, might disappear again, and Avni, torn between a longing for the old Kiran she loved and anger at what this new Kiran has done to her and their daughter. In her place, I would not merely have slapped him,I would have hit him with something real hard!
I am not touching on the fears of Sameer, unable to fathom what it is that is driving Arjun to masochism and a rigid silence, of Shree, deeply concerned about his Arjun Sir, and of Karan and Simi, trying to make sense of things they do not understand, and fearful that worse things might happen to their Shera.
Such is life, and you have captured it beautifully in this segment, Kunchu.
