Should young people be subjected to night-time curfews as a way to reduce crime?

Youth curfews would keep children off the street at night. This would all be for reducing gang activities and juvenile crime. This is a major and growing problem. Parents should not neglect their children especially late at night and should realize their responsibilities. And there is no good reason for them to out late at night without accompanied by an adult. Would they be better off at home doing schoolwork and being with their families? Should we have youth curfews?

Yes!We definatly should. It keeps the children more disciplined. It keeps the youths and everyone else safer too.

I think it would cut down the child crime rate, since alot of them do happen during the night. And also less children would be kidnapped/killed,since most of that also happens during the dark hours.

And if it's something like going to the movies, then kids should be dropped off and picked up by an adult or even accompanied by one,if necessary. 😊

Ok, everyone says that if you put a curfew, the crimes will reduce, but that won't happen because:
1. If they want to do it, they will...there's no stopping them.
2. Curfews don't do anything at all. They only provoke adolescents to break the rules or curfew, in this case.

Curfews can only reduce crime only so much...but they are sure to increase crimes by an enormous amount. Also, if children do get in trouble once, they learn a lesson which is, "Don't f'in do it again!" And that's the best way to teach them, person experience.

I dont think there is a need for a youth curfew. Not all teens hang out on the streets at night (I do HW/go online on school nights and hang out w/ friends(indoors) on non-school nights). the ones who go around town causing trouble wont care about the curfew. they will do whatever they want and totally disregard it or work around it. Trouble makers are breaking the law and they know it. having a curfew will mean they are breaking one more law but it wont stop the crimes they commint. the only ones who will suffer from a curfew are the "good kids". They would follow the curfew because they are law abiding citizens. However, there is no need to restrict their activities because they do not intend on causing trouble.

I agree with Penguin man .

Ideally, there could be, but since there won't be. We should work on making the youth more responsible 😊

One more thing,I think if there were such rules...parents would have to enforce them on thier children, because otherwise...they wouldn't work anyways.

So wether these cerfews exsist or not,I think it's really upto the parents to dicsipline thier children or not.

I feel like if the cerfew system and the parents worked together it could work.Because one without the other has lesser chances of working. 😊

It's only about the parents. My mom taught me better so she knows that I won't do anything absurd if I go out at night or if I stay out until 4 in the morning. I know many people who stay up the whole night just wandering around just because they can...some misuse the power, but those who have been taught by their parents that the streets are not the place to be, they don't do anything of the sort.

The more you try to constrain the sand, the more it loosens out of the fist.

It's more about the upbringing and the surroundings.

In one of our family friends's appartments, children are not be out by themselves after 8 without an adult. Now, this is not necessarily to curb juvenile crime but to save children from getting affected. Apparently, a lot of drug dealing happens in that area and to save the youth, they have a curfew, so what's wrong in that? Of course, crime can't be curbed by curfews but children, of course, are very impressionable, so if measures are taken in certain areas to protect them, what's the worry? Parents should enforce these rules as well.

OK.If the kids who are well behaved go out and stay all night, come back the next day.How is that even right in itself? As well as youth cerfews, parents should enforce them on thier kids, parents who let thier children stay out that late...in my opinion, are not the best of parents.

And say, even if the 'good' kids do stay out that late. There are also 'bad' kids roaming the streets at that time.Doesn't it put the other children in danger?

Rutu-I agree. 😊

That's the whole point of teaching children with personal experience. You and I both know that we've never listened to our parents repeated lectures which is why it's pointless trying to reinforce anything if children are ignorant at some point. What would you do if you didn't have a curfew? You'd go around and try to see what actually happens at night, when you find out it's boring since everyone's asleep during that time, you'd come back. So what's the point of being out there? Nothing. And did you need a reinforced curfew? No.

I think you're missing out on the personal experience part as a whole.
