'CID ko call karo', 'Daya darwaza tod do' and ACP Pradyuman's hand gestures: 20 things that happen without fail in every CID episode
When CID first aired on Indian television in 1998 (yes, you're that old), it seemed like we had found our answer to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. Sixteen years and thousands of criminal cases later, we are now only left with ACP Pradyuman, Daya and Abhijeet as meme materials on Facebook! Despite the same old cases and the ancient methods used for solving cases in an hour, CID is still every Indian child's favourite TV show and Daya is the superhero whose superpower is breaking doors in just one push.
If you've watched CID long enough, you'll probably be untying the knots in a case faster than team CID by now. We know the team inside out by now - ACP Pradyuman's hand gestures signify he has found a new angle to the case, Freddie will always be clumsy and scared, Dr. Salunkhe will always be clever and find out who was the murderer with a few drops of phenolphthalein, and Daya will break doors without fail while Abhijeet flirts with Dr. Salunkhe's assistants. Here's something you'll always find in every episode of CID.
*Screams* OMG, laash!' There will always be a murder in the first scene. A group of poor actors will always trip over a dead body in the first scene.
CID ko call karo!' CID is always just a phone call away. Because they finished the last criminal case in the previous episode, they're going to be at the crime scene as soon as possible, even when the caller doesn't tell them the address.
There is no concept of dialling 100 or calling the cops. Everyone in the world suddenly knows only CID.
ACP Pradyuman will always find an angle no one else in the team will ever manage to think of. It is only when the right hand motion starts that you'll know we're heading somewhere in this case.
Fredericks will always be clumsy and scared. He makes us wonder how he was chosen for the world-class Crime Investigation Department in the first place.
Dr. Salunkhe will playfully reveal an important point everyone was missing through his analysis with a range of coloured chemicals.
Abhijeet and one of Dr. Salunkhe's lab assistants will flirt a little every time the forensic department (which is nothing but Dr. Salunkhe and his lab assistant) come up with an important breakthrough in the case.
Tapping phones is a piece of cake. Every accused person's phones will be tapped and there will be a lot of interference in personal lives.
They will all move together in a Scorpio to chase a criminal like one big, happy family with their Bluetooth earpieces in place.
Someone will always know something about an unidentified criminal and sketches will be prepared in the CID office. You'll later find that the sketch doesn't remotely match the criminal once he's caught.
There will be repetition of dialogues.
They will eventually land in a discotheque with 5 people dancing in a shady room.
The disco will give the CID leads to a man whose criminal records will always be found.
Daya, goli mat chalana!' ACP Pradyuman has advised Daya so many times against shooting that Daya now only talks with his hands.
Daya will break a door. There's no way he won't.
Daya will always slap the accused and make him confess his crime. There's no way a criminal is going to confess without a slap.
Every case will be solved by the end of the episode.
ACP Pradyuman is supreme. He doesn't need to go to the courts to find out what the criminal's punishment is going to be.
Tumhe faansi milegi, faansi!' Jailed or hanged? ACP Pradyuman decides.
Daya and Abhijeet can be shot but they'll always survive with minor injuries!
