Nepotism in Bollywood would anger anybody: Richa Chadda

You've acted in over five films. How important do you think it is to have a Karan Johar or an Ekta Kapoor backing you?
It surely makes a huge difference as they are clued into the industry's network and ensure you get more eyeballs. Even I would like to be associated with the big filmmakers but the choice is not mine. They are the ones to pick and choose. For instance, a Hasee Toh Phasee could have been a turning point for me.

And they choose the likes of Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha who come from film families. Does that bother you?
Not only me, the nepotism in Bollywood would anger anybody. It's so unfair! I remember Anurag Kashyap telling me that it will take me five films to achieve what the star kids get with one. True! But family legacy cannot be a substitute for talent.

We know that star kids have an easier way in, in Bollywood. The trend continues with the new generation as we see the likes of Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Dhawan, Armaan Jain, Tiger Shroff and so on grab at the least a good first break, and if lucky, meatier roles and the biggest banners.

So, is it a fair situation? Richa Chadda certainly does not think so. In an interview to Mumbai Mirror, Richa made known her displeasure. When asked how important it is to have a Karan Johar-Ekta Kapoor type of backing, she said, "It surely makes a huge difference as they are clued into the industry's network and ensure you get more eyeballs. Even I would like to be associated with the big filmmakers but the choice is not mine. They are the ones to pick and choose. For instance, a Hasee Toh Phasee could have been a turning point for me".

When asked if it bothers her when big guns choose the likes of Alia, Shraddha and Sonakshi, she said, "Not only me, the nepotism in Bollywood would anger anybody. It's so unfair! I remember Anurag Kashyap telling me that it will take me five films to achieve what the star kids get with one. True! But family legacy cannot be a substitute for talent. ".

Richa has worked in movies such as Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Gangs of Wasseypur, Fukrey, and Ram-leela among others. Another movie Tamanchey is set to release on September 19.

Well, do you agree with Richa on this?

^^ I don't know 😳 But I can not imagine ANYONE playing Meeta apart from Parineeti after watching the movie. < 3

The fact of the matter is that alongside talent, you also need luck to favour you. Yes the star kids get an easy launch in the industry, but they also get twice the amount of flack. It isn't as if just getting those opportunities has made them a superstar ( Ermm Esha Deol, Abhishekh Bachan anyone. ).

Starkids don't just get dream launches. They keep getting films and offers even if they give flops or can't act to save their lives. Anyone without a godfather in the industry would rarely get more than a couple of chances in similar situations.

I have to agree with her...even though I love Allia but if not an industry kid she will not have got any movies simply on her looks. She has a very very average face...
She not only hasnepotism working for her. It also has a sugar daddy like Karan Johar who gives her movies on a platter. It is a sad truth for much talented girls put there.

And it is of only media or the directors but the audience and the fans support nepotism in a huge way. They are super excited to watch an industry kid but not so if it is someone from outside,

I'll be the first to agree with her about starkids getting preferential treatment and she is absolutely right about launches, but sometimes a YRF is not all roses. Case in point, Pari..

BTW, Pari is not a starkid, she is star sister..😛
She thinks HTP was a good move for Pari..😲. Yeah, yeah the critics liked it, but audiences ? The poor girl was stuck playing the character like Down Syndrome with the tongue, not geeky. Whoever told her to play that made a huge disservice to her IMO. It was repulsive, I just wanted to rescue Sid from whatever that was, did not go awww. And Alia poor girl was trashed all over for SOTY because of KJos shoddy direction. Put her with Imtiaz and lo and behold a Highway. Apparently she had a talent transplant or something..😛.

I think launches do matter, but in the end thankfully talent wins. Armaan Jain for all the Kapoor name could not manage to launch and yet a Ranbir was noticed. Talent wins. You have a boat load of starkids who failed. Yes, it is not fair and they do stick around longer and get more opportunities, but even a Abhishek Bachchan has to do ensemble movies.

Yes I do agree to some extent. This is why I feel drawn to actors who seem to have made big in the industry on their own. Being an outsider or part of the film fraternity makes a huge difference in career graph. It cannot be denied that some actors are still in the industry because of nepotism like Abhishek Bhachan/Sonam. Not that they are really bad...but when it comes to acting prowess they are no match to some others who clearly were not given equal opportunities.

Some actors who are still struggling may find this unfair in a similar way that we may feel unfair if we lose our assignments not because of lack of talent but because we didn't have suitable references/associations or lineage!

Edit: About Pari no idea. Didn't like the movie HTP and I feel she was overrated for that movie.

I don't know much who star kids or not.

But, I don't like Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Abishek Bachan. They acted just like Bollywood is owned by them. Mostly Kapoor name.
The truth is Bollywood owned by Shahrukh Khan. When people talked about Bollywood, at the glance we think about Shahrukh Khan. Deepika Padukone will in the league of Shahrukh Khan if she follow shahrukh step.. She need to stop trying intimate love film like Ram Leela and kissing scene.

I remember Anurag Kashyap telling me that it will take me five films to achieve what the star kids get with one.

Then this is not a problem of directiors choosing to hire star kids rather audience choosing to watch a star kid over someone unrelated. I understand moviemakers do this because this is basically an insurance. You get 10x more hype, more attention from audience by having a former superstar's kid in the cast, but still to think how we miss out on great actors because of this is sad.

I read the PV comments and apparently she mentions HTP because she is saying Pari is getting films because of her cousin PC. But since when did HTP became a career changing film like Richa is saying?

Fact is even if Richa Chadda is a star kid..she's not going to go far..she doesn't look heroine material.
