Hello esteemed debaters.
Before I begin, I would like to apologize to everyone for my behavior last week. If I hurt any of you, that was, by far, not my intention.
I know I have been a little too harsh. I truly regret acting the way I did. But I had my reasons. It was mainly because of my nostalgia. DM has always been close to my heart and I feared the new DM wouldn't live up to my expectation. However, I was wrong. You all are a different group from the one I was accustomed to; the main similarity is the quality of the debaters. Things change and we have to learn to move on and adjust ourselves to changes. This is exactly what I have decided to do.
I read everyone's comments in the thread I posted earlier. Thanks for your replies. Criticism allowed me to see my mistake and make changes in the way I moderate this section.
Someone asked what they should do and to whom they should report if they have a problem with the way a moderator is running the section. This is a very valid question. Moderators are humans and we make mistakes too. If you don't like what a certain member of the dev team is doing, before contacting higher authorities (GM/Admin), send that person a PM. A friendly reminder is quite effective.
Someone else suggested that I should have introduced myself when I first came back. So here's a brief introduction (better late than never)
I'm Javz. Although I'm the mod of this section, I would love it if all of you would treat me as a friend. I'm 17, in high school and absolutely fun-loving. I like to hang out with friends and family, watch tv, meet new people and basically enjoy life and make the most out of it. Like many others, I ended up on I-F thanks to goggle uncle and I've been here for over two and a half years. I don't know how many of you know this but DM started off as a weekly debate topic, usually initiated by pj04, in Member's Lounge. Later, the section started and I have been a part of it in one way or another since the beginning. In the past, I've worked with Sam, Aparna di, Sowmyaa di and Abhijit uncle. Although they have all moved on, these people taught me a lot about debating, moderating and life. Whatever they were not able to teach me, I am sure Raj, Tisha and Maryam will cover. I enjoy DM for many reasons. First, it is different from the usual serial specific sections. Here, we are not limited to discussing only one serial; we can discuss a wide variety of topics. Second, debates are mind-stimulating as well as enjoyable. Every time I enter DM, I know I will leave knowing something new or seeing a different viewpoint on an issue. Last but definitely not least: the debaters! Members are the core of any section. They can make or break the section and I'm glad DMers have made DM the great section that it is. Also, DM tends to have a larger average age group than many of the other sections. This gives me an opportunity to work with people older than me, learn from them and become a better debater, moderator and person.
Friends, I am not as strict or stubborn as I might have seemed before. Feel free to PM me as often as you like and regarding anything you may want to talk about. I love hearing members' suggestions and try to implement them as often as possible. Remember, DM is your section and it is our responsibility to make sure you are pleased.
All this said, I hope we can start fresh, put the past behind us and look forward to the bright future for DM before us.
Regards,
Javzs
