Vipul Gupta
Mansi Parekh
Sachin Sharma
Raj Singh Arora
Come May and Sab TV is all set to dole out its brand new show, Four (earlier titled Rocky). To be produced by Edit Two, the show boasts of actors like Mansi Parekh and Vipul Gupta (of India Calling fame), Raj Singh Arora (aka Yuvi in Remix) and Sachin Sharma, who will be playing college kids. Interestingly, Mansi, Vipul and Raj Singh Arora got their break in Shrishti Arya's Rose Audio Visuals for their shows, India Calling and Remix respectively.

Four revolves around the lives of four college-going boys and girls and their families. Vipul Gupta, who is supposed to play an aspiring rock star, says, "It is an interesting character and quite different from what I played in India Calling. It is about four college kids and their dreams and aspirations. I am not supposed to divulge any more details about the show."

The other cast includes actors like Suhasini Mulay, Shagufta Ali and Anang Desai playing grandparents in the show.

The producers, who have worked with the channel before are pretty excited about their new project. Says producer, Binaifer Kohli, "It's a very nice story ideated by our channel heads. We are under a contract which does not allow us to reveal anything as yet. But I promise the audiences won't be disappointed."

'I'm single by choice and loving it'

Vipul Gupta on love, life and keeping out of saas-bahu soaps!

DEEPALI DHINGRA

It was Mumbai calling for Vipul Gupta, better known as Aditya of India Calling, when the actor packed bag and baggage to move here from Delhi three years ago. Today, Vipul's managed to get himself his own house in Lokhandwala and he's pretty kicked about it. "God has been really kind. But now I'm realising how difficult it is to maintain a house!" he laughs. It's been a good three years with Vipul making his mark felt in serials like K Street Pali Hill and India Calling. And now, the actor will be seen in SAB TV's 4, a story about friendship between four friends.
"I play a character called Rakesh Sharma who wants to be a musician," he informs about his role. And even though 4 is not a saas-bahu show, Vipul is sure that it will be successful. "Look at shows like Remix and India Calling; they both were targeted at the youth and they did so well. I won't deny that family dramas get the highest TRPs, but there's certainly a niche audience, which is also substantial, that wants to see something different and we cannot ignore them," he points out. Speaking of saas-bahu soaps shows, would he like to be part of them? "I wouldn't even play the sasur!" he jokes and on a serious note adds, "It's not that I've not been approached, but the reason I took up the shows was because they were different. Luckily, there were no generation leaps or marriages in them," he says with a smile.
At the moment though, it's only 4 for Vipul. "I always make sure that I have just one show on air at one time. I shoot for around 20 days in a month and keep the rest of the days for shooting commercials and relaxing," he says. He's also glad that he's again working with Manasi Parekh, his co-star in India Calling. "We both share a healthy working relationship where we both respect each other," he says.

And now that his work is settled and he's got a house, is the next step marriage? "Oh no!" he laughs, "I don't know actually. At the moment, I'm single by choice and enjoying this phase." But that doesn't mean you can't change your mind, right Vipul?

Manasi Parekh loves being one of the boys on the sets. But hardly does anyone know that this tomboy got married while she was shooting for the serial India Calling. No, not to her co-star Vipin, as many might think, but to a singer Parthiv Gohil. She says, "I don't want to talk about my marriage. I prefer talking about my work." But on prodding, she does confess that it was a love marriage. And Manasi being a classical singer, her getting married to a singer seemed to be the perfect match.

After marriage, Manasi has not found it tough to balance her personal and work life. "We are living in the modern age and it's not all that tough to strike a balance between work and home anymore. Both partners need to trust, respect and love each other and from there on it's a smooth sailing." One fine day, she thought it was the right time for her to get married and she went ahead with it.

Refusing to give any further details she says, "Now, no more questions on marriage."

On the sets of the serial 4, she is the only girl besides her hairdresser. She tells us excitedly, "I am a complete tomboy and with only guys around, we keep playing pranks on each other and have good fun." Many times she has even beaten up her co-actors on the sets. "This is the reason why just everyone loves to be on the sets of this serial," says Manasi.

Manasi was out of work after India Calling, but by choice. "For me, the script matters the most. I wanted to do something which nobody else had done. So, I waited for the right role to come my way. Many people thought I was being foolish but I think I made the right choice," she stresses.

When at home, she loves watching comedy shows on television. "Having a good laugh is important. I love watching shows like Friends and Seinfield. I think it is the best way to unwind after a hectic day of shooting." But Manasi feels there is a lack of good comedy shows on Indian television. "We have too much of emotional drama and very little comedy shows. But soap operas are a staple diet for the majority of viewers in India. They just cannot do without them."

"I would love to do a thriller…"

Born and brought up in Delhi, Samir Sharma, who plays the nerdy Nitin in Dil Kya Chahta Hain and the good 'new' beta Krishna in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, is the new hot guy on the block.

My backdrop
IAfter finishing my education in Delhi, I shifted to Bangalore. Before being captured on the small screen, I worked for an advertising agency, then an IT company and last was working for Radio City in Bangalore. Marketing was the common factor in all three.

Acting on my mind!
Well, I had given acting a thought while I was in college. I did theatre in Bangalore and that followed with many shows. Theatre continued for two to three years. My best friend is the writer of Dil Kya Chahta Hai, so I auditioned for it and bagged the role. I was really happy with a kind of break I got.

Nitin's my alter ego? No way!
Samir and Nitin are completely different; the only similarity is their simplicity. Whenever I am free, I love to run home, and spend time with my wife. I have been married for a year and a half!

Other projects
I am currently doing Krishna's role in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and also the Great Indian Comedy Show, apart from DKCH.

Is it only Balaji for you now?
No, it's not. As I am new, I am open to everything. I haven't received any other offers from Balaji till now.

Bonding with co actors
Oh they are great, not for once they made me feel that I am a new comer. Vikram, Gaurav and Sameer are great buddies. I am pretty close to them.

Personal take on acting
I love doing real characters. Even when I was doing theatre, I was always told that a 'guy next door' type of a character is my strength. And when I got Nitin's role, I always thought that comedy was my weakness. Initially I really had to work hard on my character, but then it followed.

Looking forward to...

IWell, as I have already experienced two genres, I would love to do a thriller show.

Actors from other professions

They are more than just pretty faces on screen. These actors are trained professionals who later made their move into the glamour industry.

Vipul Gupta, Rocky from Four
I think basic thing everyone should have is an education. Without an education a person finds it hard to earn his bread and butter. Studies were always my first priority. I am an MBA. While doing my studies I was also interested in the glamour world. I would do modeling side by side. I have worked with GE Money which is an insurance company. I was recruited as a MBA over there. Later on, since I was very interested in acting, I took it up as a career. I am fine with my choice.

Hi Friends,

Tv News

Gaurav Enters Four
[12 Jun 2007]

Gaurav Chopra, who has acquired a new identity through his character of Lt Abhimanyu Rai Chauhan in Left Right Left, is all set to play the character of an NRI Param in the Sab TV's youth based show ' Four.' He enters the show as the love interest of Mansi Parekh and has a very attractive look, tenor and tone.

As Gaurav says, ' The look, style, tone and tenor are all different. I play the perfect NRI. Girls just drool over Param. And it better be, after all it's on the same channel. I know the director Wasim Sadir because he had directed my first show Saara Akash. Also, Samir Sharma (Manu) and I are good friends since our Dil Kya Chahta Hain days. The scenes are so different from those in Left Right Left…. I haven't played such character in ages.'

Gaurav Chopra is also featuring in Sab TV's Left Right Left and is very excited about that. The show is doing fine at TRP front and whenever he goes out in the public they recognize him not as Gaurav but as Lt Abhimanyu Rai Chauhan.

Vipul Gupta is waiting to make his Bollywood debut

Television actor, Vipul Gupta, is waiting for his debut film to release. The actor from Four has shot completely for one movie and is in the process of making his second. Here Vipul tells us about his career in films and serials.

On his Bollywood career that seems to be on hold:

"My movie called Anjaan is complete and the producers will declare its release date soon. Hansal Mehta is the director of the movie. It is past the post production phase and I don't know why it isn't releasing.

There is another movie which I am doing for Red Eyes production. It is called Saturday Night. For that film I have shot for one schedule. The producer of the coming movie, Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar where Ruslaan Mumtaaz plays the lead, is producing Saturday Night. In both the movies I play the lead and both the characters strongly resemble my nature."

Vipul Gupta was most recently seen as Aditya in India Calling. The serial has gone off-air but the actor is still grateful for the break it gave him. He says, "My debut serial was 'K Street, Pali Hill' but due to some personal reasons I had to leave Balaji. Now I consider India Calling my debut serial because most people recognize me as Aditya more than Vipul."

Though Vipul knew he wanted to be in the glamour industry, he made it a point to get himself an education first:

"Acting, dancing and such is one part of life but the primary and basic thing everyone should have is education. Without education a person finds it hard to earn his bread and butter. Studies were always my first priority. My first job was with GE Money, in the insurance department. I was recruited as an MBA there. Side by side through all this I was interested in the glamour world and would do modeling."

At present Vipul is seen in the show Four with Mansi Parekh. He is enjoying the show and working with Mansi. "I think that Mansi Parekh is a very professional and good actress to work with. She is charming, full of joy and enthusiasm." He concludes.
