Hey nice article...
I guess all this hype about Sunita Williams is because she reminds us of Kalpana Chawla... Kalpana was an Indian born gal.... She studied in India... and went to the USA just to further her career...
I guess Sunita's very Indian first name just makes her the replacement Indians have been desperately looking for...
Indians tend to pride in anything even remotely connected to India... Its a habit...

In addition to this, I think Indians really are scarce on role models and we just latch on to anything sounding Indian that is in news...

thanks for the article...well written!

Very well written post 👏

As noted earlier in this mail, Sunita William's hype is due to the sentimental outcome of Ma'am Kalpana Chawla. Coming to other point:

If one calls avoiding hurt feelings of certain sections of citizens by not felicitating efforts of Sir Salman,is Hypocratic! then I not neccesarily agree. Also recognition of art or any action that is on top of hurt feelings of masses isn't always good and depends on countries how they secure common interest of citizens. Will be adding more... 😊

and your point is??

How many ppl went gaga over his wedding and how many sat on trees outside abhishek's house?? 😉..
Is there a movie made on his life and accomplishment as the first Indian ever in space?
Your point is??

I third that...Take even the case of Lakshmi Mittal- he became a hero to many(me included) and come to think of it, he did very little to influence India economy...We do have heroes even in the present, but not enough of them to stop us from running into the past and bringing the heroes of those times into the forefront..

i dont think so. we took pride whn 2nd oct. was declared as peace day. we take pride in saniya our cricketers our politicians our engg who r running the economy of other countries we take pride in all those people who have studied in india but r serving in other countries we even take pride in murlidharan who is an indian but still plays for srilanka.

so if u say that sunita is not indian or laxmi mittal is not then even many people posting their comments over here r not. and if we acknowledge them as indians then even these people r. and its not abt where r u born or wht its abt where ur heart is. if sunita is so close to indian food inspite of being an a daughter of a non indian and the first thing she wants to do after reaching earth is eat choley bhature thn she is very much indian.

now people who dont want to be indian and dont have anything other than take out faults with india not be proud of it or its people and blah blah.... i dont consider thm as indian nor do they themselves. so the matter is very much clear as to who r considered indians and who r not . its just a matter of ur own choice whether u consider ur self as indian or not no matter where u r born.
