Chapter 7

Maan smiled at himself, as he remembered the peanuts lying on the floor and Rose fussing over it and muttering something in the lines of it is going to aggravate Geet's condition!' He understood that surely Geet was trying to avoid him as Geet was perfectly fine in the morning and just after college and "her supposed eating peanuts" she went ill. Her plain failed miserably, Maan guffawed rubbing his hands waiting for the little minx to come. He had plans for the cutie as he alternated his routine, requesting the student advisor to put him in Geet's section. The man relented after a few green notes and lots of promises to up his condition of house. "I am waiting for you cutie"

"Geet, Geet come on yaar wake up..." Sam shook her sleeping form. Geet was so dead tired from sneezing all night long and a little fever too, now she was too deep in sleep.

"Umm..." Geet groaned in pain turning around in her bed.

"Get up, college will start in few minutes" Sam ordered glaring at her watch. Why was time moving so fast, they would now have to rush to college now! Geet woke up rubbing her eyes, her eyelids painfully heavy. Her nose still running, snatching the tissue paper from the box, she blew her nose into it. Sam scrunched her nose in disgust...

"Okay, I am up...I am up no need to shout on my head..." Geet screeched, all the loud voices made her head throb in more pain. God! She shouldn't have pulled up that totally failed plan. She shoved Sam out of the room and got ready, still feeling very sluggish.

Slowly, Sam and Geet trudged up to college, much to Sam's irritation. Rose had already left with Maan and Serry in Maan's newly bought car. He is such a show off, Geet scoffed! But she was glad he left, easy to avoid him now, she thought...if only she could resist him enough in the classes...

Classes started on a bad note as Sam escaped stealthily into the back entrance of college, and Geet got a good scolding from the teacher for coming late. Further it was damn irritating because Maan was present in every class, who kept on staring at her although he thought he was doing it secretively, she could feel it! Damn that weird man! The throbbing in her head was increasing constantly, it was painful to even concentrate on what was taught in the class.

Maan noted, she doesn't seem well...what happened to her! Was he being too nagging- Oh hell, what am I even thinking?' He thought incredulously, appalled at his own behaviour. He never cared for anyone like that... Not even for his own mother! What was happening to him? His eyebrows scrunched in confusion, as he kept on staring at Geet. She was constantly holding her head and trying to keep her eyes to keep on concentrating in the class. God she is so stubborn! Maan almost smiled at her cute stubbornness, she is such a cutie!

He sighed, she is so stubborn, she could have asked for a sick leave but no...she is still holding her ground. Grr he would have to do something, he thought of something. Scrunching up a piece of paper, he threw at the professor simultaneously scribbling a note for Geet and throwing at her.

"Who threw this?" The professor screeched like an angry bull. Geet rubbed her head, it was hit by something, she was sure of it. Then her gaze fell on the note lying down, she opened it...her blurred vision clearing up a bit, "Get out of the class and take a sick leave or I will carry you out- Maan". So typical of him, to order everyone...like a King Almighty! She tilted her nose defiantly, glaring at him...but the look of concern on his face made her shy away. He was worried for her health, moreover she couldn't even concentrate; so she better leave, She contemplated when another note hit her.

"I cannot concentrate with the way you sigh every second, cutie- Maan" Now that irritated her, and yes it hurt a bit too that he was doing it all for concentration and not her health. She stood up hastily at the same time the professor screamed, "Who did it?"

"You...did it?" The professor was shocked that a girl least of all a new entrant did it. Equally shocked was Geet, it was her bad luck always she sighed. Maan slapped his hand on his forehead, this girl is a total disaster' he thought wryly as the professor ordered Geet to get out. Geet sulked, it wasn't even her fault, the culprit was Maan for screaming out loud. Her face turned into a sad pout as she glared daggers at Maan and got out of the class collecting her things. It unsettled Maan a bit, he didn't mean her to be punished.

Geet straightway went to the library, hiding in a cozy corner and slept till lunch break.

Maan huffed as he reached near the table where the gang was having lunch. Geet still absent. He almost ran the whole campus, and Geet was nowhere to be found. Did she leave? Maan thought worriedly. God! The day was going so wrong, so not to what he planned...

"Geet isn't here?" Maan asked sighed dropping to the seat nearby Sam. Deliberately Sam moved a little closer to him, and awkwardly Maan had to drape his arm around her shoulder.

Rose wiggled her eyebrows suggestively at Maan, "Someone is very worried about Geet these days..." She commented and Sam shifted awkwardly. Serry studied his body language, there was no display of emotion on Maan's face for a moment, for a moment he was totally blank, like he didn't know how he should react and then Serry saw the mask he covered up; a mischievous glint in Maan's eyes, "of course she is my cutie..." He winked, he felt so down inside...something eating away his gut...where is Geet?

"Drop it guys, she would be hurt if she heard you guys joking about her like that!" Serry scolded both of them. Maan laughed, now directing towards Rose, "of course not she is just...a friend, not my type you know"

"I...got a job at library, will meet you at the end of the day...bye" Geet's voice cracked at the end, and she ran away. She just shouldn't have come, she just shouldn't, there is no need of her here she is better off at her home. Ohh dear mother nature, why make the call and her emotional at the same time!

Maan slapped his head at his folly, he just shouldn't just open that bi**h of his mouth, darn it! She was already emotional because of his antics, and this! He stood up to run behind her, when Serry and Sam stopped him placing a hand on each of his shoulder, "let her be, she needs time..." Even Serry could see Geet was bit distressed but what he couldn't decipher.

"She is bit...emotional right now.." Sam said guessing may be it's her time of month.

"It doesn't seem that she is not your type, Maan" Rose muttered watching how Maan fussed and sighed.

"Hello Ma" Geet sighed sadly, composing her tornado of emotions inside her.

"Geet... how are you?" she asked hesitantly. She missed Geet, especially with how Geet left after fighting with her. She didn't want Geet to go away from her...or her father. She knew he loved Geet. More than any step-father could; he just wanted to protect Geet in his own way...that's why he vehemently opposed to Geet moving to Delhi. Geet instead accused him of being partial to her being a step-daughter...her mother had slapped her for the disrespect; Geet had never talked back to her father; rather she would blast on her mother...Geet was really afraid of her father before that time... It was the first time Geet rebelled...against her father and-

"Ma are you there?" Geet choked a sob, she knew why her mother was so lost in her thoughts, she shouldn't have spoken so rudely to her before leaving...

"I...miss your cooking Geet" Her mother didn't want Geet to become weak; she realized it was first time Geet took a courageous step to do something on her own instead of hiding behind the shadow of her parents; so she quickly changed her you' to her cooking'.

"It was hardly a dish, I made the last time Ma" Geet let out a forceful laugh. She stayed silent a bit before spilling out, "I miss you...so much Ma and Rohan..." She sobbed into the phone and heard her mother's sad sigh, hesitatingly she spoke "and even...Dad too...". Rohan was her brother from her step-father, still she loved him dearly even after all his pranks and teasing. However her father was totally a different matter...

"Come back Geet... Your dad loves you still..." She pleaded, with a motherly tone.

"I am coming back Ma, there is not much here for me-" and she cut the call.

Geet is going back, Maan was horrified! How could she leave, her career it's here... how could she leave when she had just started, how could she just up and leave us all...leave him...
