A still from Kyunki...

Trust Balaji Telefilms to spin surprises. After a successful run of the family saga Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi for seven years in India, Balaji is on the process of re-making the never-ending show in Tamil for Sri Lankans. This move also marks Balaji's entry into the international market.

Although the remake will be made in Tamil, it will have all the essential masala of the original version.

"Ekta is keen on making her serials for worldwide audience. So, she wants to explore opportunities in other countries. The remake of Kyunki… is just an extension of the idea," reveals an insider.

Balaji has been toying with the idea for quite some time. The idea is in the process of materialising, in the next few months.

"The show was supposed to be made in Sinhalese, but we chose Tamil because it's the second language of Sri Lanka. Moreover, it will have an appeal in South India too where Hindi soaps are yet to get a strong foothold. The show will go on floors by the end of September," adds the source.

The show is supposed to be low-budget compared to the massive money pumped in for the original. The source says, "Sri Lanka is a smaller country. Naturally, the audience will be much lesser. So, it will be small-budget show."

And what about the show's cast? Smriti Irani, who's finding it difficult to play Tulsi in the original, is out of question for the title role. There are also cost factors that need to be considered. "Smriti charges a huge amount, which is feasible for the show's remake. In fact, actors who are presently working in the show will not be in the Sri Lankan version, because the budget of the remake will shoot up considerably. Only newcomers will be featured in the show," adds our source.

Ninety per cent of the actors in the remake will be from India. Only a few Sri Lankan actors will be hired so that the audience can identify with the show. "We are taking Indian actors as it is easier for Balaji to work with Indian actors," says the source.

Is there any other show which Balaji is considering remaking? "Kyunki… is the backbone of Balaji as it has been getting the maximum TRPs for the past seven years. If this becomes successful, we will think of remaking other successful shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kasautii Zindagi Kay," adds the source.

cool 😊

I wonder if it will be the exact same storyline, hope they correct some of their mistakes 😆

Damn I wish it'd be possible to simply reboot Kyunki and rewrite everything that happened from the last part of the original story (before the 1st leap) onwards. 🤔

Wouldn't it be MUCH easier to just DUB the current show?? Saves you the money!

Honestly, the thought of KSBKBT in ONE MORE LANGUAGE? Makes my head spin. Isn't this one KSBKBT enough trauma for the masses? Do you want to have the entire country in the catatonic, comatose states that we are in?? *sigh*

Maybe they plan on tweaking the storyline, perhaps the South Indian/Sri Lankan audience needs a different kind of trauma (due to different tastes in soaps maybe) to make them catatonic. 😃
