Karan Johar gets directed by Aryan Khan, decades after cradling him on K3G sets

Filmmaker Karan Johar has confirmed his cameo in Aryan Khan’s upcoming directorial debut, The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. The project, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, marks Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan’s first step into directing and has already generated considerable curiosity.

The first-look video of the series, released recently, introduced Lakshya and Sahher Bambba as the leads. The teaser, described as stylish and sharp by many online, drew widespread attention. Netizens praised Aryan’s debut attempt, noting its unconventional tone.

Johar, who has been closely associated with Shah Rukh Khan and his family for decades, made his announcement in a rather personal way. On Monday, Netflix shared a clip of baby Aryan from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, where he played the younger version of his father’s character. Responding to the post, Johar wrote, “Aryan! From holding you in my arms to being directed by you… My heart is full.”

His comment added a sentimental layer to the conversation, as many recalled Johar’s long-standing bond with the Khan family.

The confirmation followed Shah Rukh Khan’s own remarks during his return to the popular #AskSRK session on X (formerly Twitter). When asked if he would appear in Aryan’s project, SRK replied, “Lots of lovely friends from the industry have participated in Aryan's series. They've been very gracious and loving toward him. Main toh hun hi... Haq se!” His response not only hinted at his cameo but also confirmed industry-wide support for Aryan’s debut.

In another response, when questioned about the series, SRK offered a brief review, saying, “It’s very good. You all see and decide… but it’s very entertaining… and wacky and emotional. Honest review!”

Though the release date is yet to be announced, The Ba**ds of Bollywood* will premiere on Netflix later this year. With Aryan stepping into direction, Shah Rukh’s cameo, and Johar’s confirmation, the project has already secured visibility far beyond a typical debut series.

The coming months will reveal how Aryan’s first outing as a filmmaker shapes up, but the combination of industry support, audience curiosity, and a star-backed launch has already placed it firmly on the radar.
