Take each member of the Bhallas and Iyers, none of them , except Raman has this streak i -- A streak of innate gentleness--Cloaked under their good behaviour and sterling qualities one cannot help noticing ---Mr. Iyer can be absolutely stoic when he so desires.Mrs Iyer very aggressive when it come to making her point,Vandu very forthright doesn't mince her words,Bala can come to blows and become very strict when required, Ishita can be very dominating in her body language when it comes to her convictions, Romi can get nasty in his demeanour when it doesn't suit him ,Mrs Bhalla believes in strength and only strength,Mr Bhalla become dispassionately disinterested when things don't go his way, Mihika very loving but exacting , Mihir can be quite obstinate when he wants to.
And all the above stated as compared to Raman are portrayed as even tempered, polite, following all the social graces, yet at the end of the day it is Raman who despite being short tempered, egoistic, impatient, bitter about life, sarcastic, does things his own way shows a gentle streak running through him and it surfaces quite often. It gives him away in that crooked smile, the tolerant look which comes into his eyes, the words of remorse and thoughts of remorse he utters and thinks to himself and the accompanying expression when he knows he has hurt somebody. He might not say sorry but he feels it ,the others say it every time required but I don't know if they feel it the way he does.It appears to be more a matter of good social behaviour for them . This trait could be one of Karan's real life characteristics which refuses to remain indoors even when he is busy shooting as Raman the Ravan Kumar. It could be the director's skill to be able to get this sort of character portrayal. Very well done.
