Can't say about SRK as Devdaas(you youngsters think he is too good while seniors have a different opinion). But, GR as Saras is something unique. He brought that look, honesty, purity, innocence, sophistication and soul to the character. He is way better than the Saras of the movie.
He really made it iconic. His performance is on par with some great performances on silver screen. When I think of Saras, I think of performances of Amitabh n Rajesh Khanna in Anand. He is not there at their level, but definitely in that mould. While the PH is lucky to have Gautam, I feel he is more lucky to have got that role. This role showcased him like none other. He really made it into the big league. His magnum opus.In the initial episodes, I thought his performance was very average. But, as the character traits and his past came out and as the story moved forward, he just conquered my imagination. All the earlier stoicism seemed appropriate.I would like to thank the initial casting director of SLB's team for picking him. They said his eyes speak a lot. Bang on.
