He really made it iconic. His performance is on par with some great performances on silver screen. When I think of Saras, I think of performances of Amitabh n Rajesh Khanna in Anand. He is not there at their level, but definitely in that mould.
While the PH is lucky to have Gautam, I feel he is more lucky to have got that role. This role showcased him like none other. He really made it into the big league. His magnum opus.
In the initial episodes, I thought his performance was very average. But, as the character traits and his past came out and as the story moved forward, he just conquered my imagination. All the earlier stoicism seemed appropriate.
I would like to thank the initial casting director of SLB's team for picking him. They said his eyes speak a lot. Bang on.

Bahut khoob kaha Santhi, I too did not enjoy the SRK Devdas, but gauti brings a sincerity and honesty which is good to see.

I didn't like devdas but what I meant was people today when they think of Devdaas they think of SRK...perhaps like when they think of Jai from sholay they think of AB. (He died in the film right?) my point was pple will forever remember Gautam as Saras so thank god they not doing the whole replacing thing as no one can play saras apart from Gautam!

This PH and SP have totally lost it. When there is absolutely no need to kill Saras, they are going to. Just to introduce a twist to the story?? I don't see the point. Just to drag a show to infinity, they do all these things. They compromise with the integrity of the product.

I know that the original story had an unfulfilled love story. Maybe this was their way of doing it? But reading letters forever sounds sad. Also, will she at least have a child? I can't watch Kumud said and lonely reading letters and then some other man coming! Yes some other man coming to kill her loneliness will be good. But he wont be Saras?? Will she ever be able to love like that again? Short answer. No.

Too depressed by this!

@ pink 1- I think GR is now as good, probably better than the best in Bollywood now. He is limited by the quality of writing and other constraints of the TV daily soap, that's all... Whether he's on par with the "Anand" actors at their heyday, we can only find out if he gets a great movie like that to act in. **Keeping my fingers crossed** 😊 He is so good at speaking with his eyes that he is actually in the mould of Sanjeev Kumar (in that aspect only)

@pink 2 - yeah the way Saras's body language changed as he came out of the shell was very well planned and executed in our show... If you look at the first few weeks, he looks like he lives in a straitjacket and he gradually sheds that after he comes to RN. Amazing work. This was effective use of the TV medium coz you would nt have so much screen time in a move to play with to show the transformation.

Another time that he used amazing body language was when he came out the room where he'd locked himself up after the dog-bone game - he looked so fragile and vulnerable, and he conveyed that without any words...

p.s. I'm not an "admirer" of any of the mainstream BW heroes of the moment. Naseeruddin Shah, Nawazuddin, Irrfaan Khan, Manoj Bajpai are all far more interesting, in my books. In fact GR is an exception in my list as the only actor who also happens to be good-looking 😛

There is, was and always will be only one Saras. There is no way any other person can make the magic that we all came to now and love, Saraswatichandra.

Gautam's Saras is the show.It is his chesmistry with his co-actors that makes the show tick. And that's the beauty of Sarawatichandra.Very rarely you get to see such amazing supporting characters.Saras's relation with Dugba, Danny and Kumud feels so real, so
heart wrenchingly true and yet magical. Their scenes are the pinnacle of the show. And Gautum is what makes them work.

If there is no other way to continue then so be it, the show should end.It is not going to survive anyway so why they want to ruin it for themselves and the viewers. It will not work and I think they know it too.
