I felt the best way to address this would be to make a topic about it, so here it goes.
I've been predicting the box office fate of movies on this forum for two years now (since July 2012), and I was proud of what I accomplished. I Got many box office predictions correct, especially during this year in 2014. Even other things I predicted were often right (ex. I predicted Cocktail would be a turning point for Deepika's career and it happened).
I felt like I was at my best this year in 2014, with majority of my predictions proving correct.
SO I was predicting Kick and saw another member also predict for Kick: Mr. Afg. He predicted opening day figure of 26 crores, while I predicted 34 crores. I felt that at least someone like Taran Adarsh would give opening day collection of 34 crores. Taran Adarsh and Komal Nahta actually influenced my prediction as before release they both felt the film will have 30+ crore opening, and I think Komal even said the film could do around 35 crores on opening day.
The whole day I was looking through all sorts of box office reports and tweets. I had some anticipation of my prediction being wrong before the film released as majority predicted the film to do somewhere in the 20+ crore range for opening, but I still had faith in my prediction.
Mr Afg buddy, it seemed like a seesaw competition through the whole day. The way the film opened it seemed like a 30+ crore opening day was on the cards and my prediction would be right. Then after a while there were reports of the film slowing down and heading towards a 20+ crore range (as you predicted) for opening day. I kept checking the whole day and ultimately...
The opening day number was 26 crores. The exact number Mr.Afg predicted. All sources have given this number as opening day collection.
I read Mr. Afg comment in his thread that no one reads his predictions, but I think it's time for you guys to start reading his predictions. My predictions for Kick (Which turned out to be bakwaas predictions) got 28 likes from forum members, while Mr.Afg's got no likes. It's time you guys turn your attention towards him.
With my opening day prediction, I feel like I have let down Salman fans who may have expected a much better opening day collection than what the film actually got, but Salman fans please note this: the opening collection of Kick (26 crores) is a great number considering the Ramadan and pre-Eid release period. So don't be underwhelmed by the opening day box office collection, cause the film has started out great!
I am retiring from making box office predictions for now. You guys can feel free to message me as many normally have done if you want to ask about any movie, but for now I think it's time to say good bye.
I plead you guys to give your respect to Mr. Afg now instead, who made a FABULOUS opening day prediction with Kick! He is a truly great box office predictor!
