Shantanu deserved that slap and getting beaten up by Sumer and Samrat. He could have told Sunheri that running away with her mother's jewellery is not the solution. If he intended to come back for the family's blessings, he didn't have to run at all. Even if Paro was not for the match, he could have approached Danveer or Mohini. He spent two weeks getting on their good side and they are her parents. Paro may be the badi bahu or something but why mess things up for her when its technically her cousin's marriage and the father is a easier nut to crack.
