MTV presents a supernatural teen love story with MTV Fanaah

After the phenomenal premiere of Killer MTV Splitsvilla 7, MTV is back again with yet another treat for all the viewers. With the monsoons spelling the official beginning for the season of love, MTV is all set to launch a brand new show which will focus on love in a supernatural setting- MTV Fanaah - An Impossible Love Story. The show will go on air from 21 July 2014, will be telecast from Monday to Friday at 6 PM.

The series concept took shape when MTV concluded the 11000 youth research across 40 cities earlier this year, whose findings were presented at the MTV Youth Marketing Forum. The research suggested that the youth are captivated by fantasy love tales and the supernatural. "Love stories have always found favor with the youngsters. While the study suggests that in their real life, commitment is rare and, that most of them are casually dating, experimenting, or are single-and-ready-to-mingle. But, the youth are in love with the idea of eternal romance" says, Sumeli Chatterjee, Head - Marketing and Insights, MTV India. Building on these findings, MTV decided to come up with a unique story of teen love featuring vampires and werewolves.

The show will see popular television artists such as Karan Kundra, Rithvik Dhanjani, Ratan Rajput, Anita Hassanandani and Chetna Pande delivering power-packed performances through the series. Building on the concept further, Vikas Gupta, Head - Programming at MTV said, "Love is a very strong emotion and with MTV Fanaah we really want to push the boundaries of what love can mean to different people and what one can achieve purely through the power of love. It's a great story and we're glad to have biggest and the hottest actors, who have a very strong connect with the youth in India - like Karan Kundra and Rithvik Dhanjani essaying lead roles in the show. It's a story about young people in love albeit in an extraordinary circumstances. Fantasy is the most successful as well as the most underrated genre and I'm sure the viewers will connect with our characters and enjoy the show immensely."

The show is going to be a breakaway from a run-of-the-mill fiction in the youth genre. Speaking further about the show, Sumeli Chatterjee, Head - Marketing and Insights at MTV India said, "We love to break the monotony of the genres. Routine is boring. And MTV is guided by a mission to Kill Boring to be the biggest, boldest, youth entertainment brand on the planet." MTV is known to create shows that bend the genre rules. MTV Fanaah challenges the routine genre rules in terms of its show plot, narration style and characters. MTV Fanaah is a story of multiple protagonists with entwined storylines. Sumeli further added, "Life is not exactly black and white, so, why should the characters be depicted that way in the series? Routine serials would portray characters as heroes and villains. You will see a very interesting difference in MTV Fanaah as all characters are gray. They are not exactly good or bad, they are good and bad. This would make it an interesting viewing and easier to relate to for the viewers."

Rithvik Dhanjani back with a bang!

MTV launching a supernatural drama on vampires. Titled 'Fanaa-An Impossible Love Story', the show will air on Monday through Friday, at 6 pm.

The channel has now decided to summon vampires and werewolves, with the launch of its first fiction supernatural drama 'Fanaa- An Impossible Love Story'. The show will be produced by BBC Worldwide Productions India and will go on air on July 21.

After a long time, the channel has planned to launch a show that will occupy a weekday slot. Fanaa will be aired on Monday through Friday, at the 6 pm slot (with three re-runs in a single day).

'Fanaa- An Impossible Love Story' is a story of power and impossible love. Some of the actors the show will feature include Karan Kundra, Rithvik Dhanjani, Chetna Pande, Anita Hassanandani, Ratan Rajput and Ahsaas Channa.

Of these, Kundra and Dhanjani will be seen in the lead roles; Kundra will play the vampire and Dhanjani will play the werewolf.

According to Sumeli Chatterjee, head, marketing, media and insights, MTV India, the only similarity between Fanaa and the other shows is the presence of a vampire, a werewolf and a human being. She insists the treatment of the show is a "never-seen-before" on Indian television.

"Fanaa has a very different style of narration. It is a story of five teenagers, based in the modern age. However, the story includes a time lapse; it goes back and forth in time. The narration - and characterisation - is something new in the youth genre on Indian television, and that makes it a very different concept," Chatterjee avers.

In life, people are not 'black' or 'white'; rather, personalities are always shaded with grey areas. The team drew inspiration from this fact. "No character is 'pure good' or 'pure bad'. And that is something that we have figured out is a routine formula that you see in fiction on Indian TV, across genres. MTV Fanaa breaks that myth," she says, adding, it is this concept that will make the show more relevant for the youth. We learn that even the situations, relationships and emotions in the show will not be easy to classify as either 'good' or 'bad'.

The whole concept took birth earlier this year, when the MTV conducted its 'Curious Minds' study. That's when the team realised that among the youth, there exists a tremendous appetite for fantasy and fantasy-based love stories. Thus, the channel decided to ideate on this show.

The show is targeted at "tweenagers" (10-12 years) and teenagers. MTV, Chatterjee says, enjoys similar popularity (reflected by viewership numbers) among both males and females. "It's the mystery and supernatural element of the concept that will draw male audiences. At the same time, the love part of it and the theme will attract female viewers," she says.

As of now, the channel plans to telecast the show for a period of six months. However, the show may be extended further, depending on its performance.

What is holding back Indian fantasy fiction on television?

http://www.exchange4media.com/56414_what-is-holding-back-indian-fantasy-fiction-on-television.html

Excerpts:

On the other hand, Sunjoy Waddhwa, CMD, Sphereorigins Multivision, a production house that produced Indian fantasy fiction series such as Thief of Baghdad', Rajkumar Aryan' for NDTV Imagine and Shaurya Aur Suhani' for Star Plus, stressed that there is a large audience that watches fantasy fiction. He said, "It all depends on genre to genre. So, something happening on MTV, where the base audience is different, the nature of the show will be more like a niche show for teenagers. But when you come to bigger fantasy shows on a GEC, then across the board viewership is there. It all depends where you are positioning your show. But the audience is quite ready and hungry for such shows."

With MTV's new show Fanaah' looking to expand the audience base for Indian fantasy fiction shows, there is excitement in the genre. It remains to be seen whether the expectations are met and whether the show can successfully compete with shows in other genres, thus paving the way for more such series.

MTV's Fanaah - Indian Version Of Twilight, Vampire Diaries?
Posted by: Girija Narayan Published: Monday, July 7, 2014

Fanaah - An Impossible Love Story, is MTV's fantasy fiction show hitting small screen very soon and the first look has a very Twilight, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and True Blood feel to it. The show starring Karan Kundra, Rithvik Dhanjani, Ratan Rajput, Anita Hassanandani and Chetna Pande will be going on air from 21st July.

The show which is said to have five protagonists, Karan, Rithvik, Anita, Ratan, Chetna, obviuously revolves around the lives of vampires and humans. The show will have the love story between the vampire and the humans as the main story line and how the two involved find one another, fall in love with each other and find way to be together happily ever after forms the rest of the story.

The same kind of love stories has been tried in many Hollywood shows and have seen guarenteed success due to the appeal viewers have for the fantacy love stories and finding eternal love. Vikas Gupta, Head - Programming at MTV India, said, "Love is a very strong emotion and with MTV Fanaah we really want to push the boundaries of what love can mean to different people and what one can achieve purely through the power of love." Let's wait and watch how the show gets accpeted by the Indian youth, whom the show is targeting.

Fanaah, the MTV's answer to all the Vampire shows and films will hit the small screen from July 21st.

Vampires Rithvik and Karan both play vampires.
(maybe writer is confused, the poster, used next in the slideshow itself, clearly indicates Rithvik is playing a werewolf)

MTV Fanaah MTV's Fanaah if manages to grab attention from the target viewers, and has a strong story line, it sure has the potential to see huge success.

Rithvik Dhanjani Rithvik Dhanjani, the ex-Pavitra Rishta star will be seen in an entirely new avatar on the show.

On the day of the launch, MTV will unveil what it calls a 'parallel digital world' on the company's official (India) website...

...The media mix also includes a 20-city outdoor marketing plan as well as promotions across cinema halls.

Stars of MTV Fanaah in the city
(Dainik Jagran Kanpur edition, July 10 2014)

MTV is going to launch a new love centric show called Fanaah - an impossible love story soon. TV actors Rithvik Dhanjani and Chetna Pande were in the city (Kanpur) to promote the same. They said that the show will air from July 21 at 6pm, Monday to Friday.

The story is about supernatural beings like vampires and werewolves, and the challenges/difficulties in their love lives. Rithvik is playing a werewolf in the show.

Actors Chetna Pande, Karan Kundra and Rithvik Dhanjani catch up on the latest in the city, with Lucknow Times. The trio were here to promote their show, Fanaah.

Playing the perfect host to co-actors Rithvik Dhanjani and Chetna Pande in Lucknow was frequent visitor to the city, Karan Kundra, who was here only last week.

"The city keeps calling me back again and again," laughed Karan, adding, "I now have many friends here. And I know Lucknow so well, that on Wednesday evening when we landed in the city, I took Rithvik and Chetna for Lucknow darshan. The city looks so different during Ramadan, especially old Lucknow. Hum Tundey kebabs khane Nakkhas gaye thay."

Predictably, they loved the food. "Whenever I am here I gorge on the food. You just can't be on a diet when in this city. However, Rithvik is on a diet, and he was reluctant to have the kebabs and the orange roti (sheermaal), but once he tasted a bite of it, he didn't stop at all!"

And what about Chetna? "Well, unfortunately, I am a vegetarian, but I was quite tempted by their food reviews. Itna sunne ke baad mera bhi bahut mann tha to taste Lakhnawi food, but Karan and Rithvik stopped me and mera dharam bhrasht nahi hua," she laughs.

Based on the popular US series, Vampire Diaries, Fanaah will have Karan and Rithvik playing vampire and werewolf, respectively. "We are just experimenting with this genre," says Rithvik, who has played a werewolf earlier as well, in Pyaar Kii Ek Kahaani. Drill him on that and he gets defensive and says, "Toh kya hua? Yes, I have played a werewolf in the past but if you see, all our daily shows are also the same na? Every story on TV today is the same and it is the treatment of the characters which is different. So, even if I have been part of such a show earlier, this one is quite different."

Budget highlights The hot topic of discussion for the three of them was the NDA government's budget, which was presented yesterday. "We have a lot of expectations from Narendra Modi and so we are definitely looking forward to the first budget under his leadership," said Karan and Rithvik, also revealing that they follow the PM quite diligently on Twitter.
Telling us what hopes they had with the budget, Rithvik, best known for his role in Pavitra Rishta and as the winner of dance reality show Nach Baliye 6, said he wanted petrol prices to come down. On the other hand Karan, who belongs to a business family, wanted the budget to focus on "industrial growth".

The trio clicked several selfies on their trip to Lucknow and posted them on Twitter. This one clicked at TundeyKebabs, was posted by Karan Kundra.

Go Fanaah

Hindustan Times (Kolkata) | 17 Jul 2014

The dashing trio of Karan Kundra, Rithvik Dhanjani and Chetna Pande was recently in Kolkata to promote their upcoming small screen venture MTV Fanaah. Based on the lines of The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries, the show with the catchline, An impossible love story, is about supernatural teen love and has vampires, witches, werewolves and human beings.

While Karan Kundra essays the role of a vampire, Rithvik plays a werewolf and Chetna plays their human love interest. Popular television actors Ratan Rajput and Anita Hassanandani will also be seen playing prominent characters in the show that goes on air from July 21, Monday to Friday at 6 pm.

"It's a unique fantasy show based on the international format of vampires and werewolves. The plot is edgy. The chemistry among the characters is also something to look out for. I'm sure the youth will enjoy watching it," said Karan, adding that the show is something that the young TV audience has never seen before.

Chetna, who is excited about the show, which marks her TV debut, says that she is looking forward to the viewers' reaction. "The show has been shot aesthetically. The story is something that will appeal to all. We had a great time working on it. I would say it's an impossible love story for me," smiled the actress, who made her Bollywood debut with I Don't Luv U.

According to Rithvik, the way the important characters and their stories are intertwined makes it interesting. "The story is racy and will make the audience crave for more. In fact, all the characters in the show have been created with their separate identities. I think living such characters even before the camera is wonderful," he added.

Fantasy love tales coated with the supernatural

The Statesman | 19 Jul 2014

Debameeta Bhattacharya catches up with the cast of MTV's new show Fanaa

HERE'S a refreshing treat to nourish viewers' appetite for the supernatural. With the monsoon casting its love/hate spell, depending on which side of the divide you are, MTV India is all set to launch a brand new show focusing on love in a supernatural setting " MTV Fanaah. Concept of the series took shape when MTV concluded its massive 11,000-youth research across 40 cities earlier this year. Love stories have always found favour with youngsters and the channel's research suggested that fantasy love tales and the supernatural world captivate youth, that they are in love with the idea of eternal romance. Building on these findings, the channel decided to come up with MTV Fanaah, which it hopes will break the monotony of the current youth genre. To make the show more relatable, the characters in MTV Fanaah are not black or white - they're not good or bad but good and bad, thus making for more interesting viewing.

Lead actors and popular television artistes Karan Kundra, Rithvik Dhanjani and Chetna Pande visited Kolkata to promote the show, which will go on air from 21 July " Monday through Friday at 6 pm. Multiple protagonists and entwined storylines will depict each episode in a never-seen-before avatar.
Lead protagonist Kundra will be seen playing a vampire and he is making his comeback to the fiction genre on television after three years. "I wanted to make my comeback to the fiction genre with a very unique show and MTV Fanaah fit the bill perfectly. For the first time, I play the role of a vampire that is challenging and a lot of fun. I'm sure all the young viewers will love our show and be at the edge of their seats, with lots of goosebumps at all times."

When asked, he said, "I am not a reality show person and I don't think actors choose roles, the roles choose them. My character is very edgy, dark and has shades of grey. He has been deceived in love. He is emotional, intense and a lot of turmoil goes through him. I had to lose a lot of weight to fit into the role. Since I'm playing a vampire, I am to look malnourished, skinny and, yes, I have done justice to the requirement. I am very intense as a person and extremism and honesty are two things I can relate to my character. I am doing two feature films and where one is supposed to release in August the other is due out next year. Till then, I will be a vampire (winks)."

Dhanjani will be seen playing a werewolf on the show yet again and he said, "After being part of many reality and daily shows, I wanted to return to the supernatural genre with an exciting script like MTV Fanaah. Playing a werewolf has been challenging and extremely satisfying for me as an actor. My experience has been completely unbelievable, plus refreshing, and I hope viewers will feel the same. The programme head also happens to be a friend of mine and he said it was a path-breaker. The story is concept-based and season-based. Vidyuth's journey as a young boy is very different. He becomes more human-like because of love and when his love is snatched from him he can't overcome the heartbreak. The characters played by Anita Hassanandani and Ratan Rajput are huge hurdles for him. He is torn apart because the animal in him doesn't let him become completely human and he is constantly fighting the dark side in him. The story is beautiful in itself and the season will make things very interesting for viewers."

Paired opposite Kundra and Dhanjani will be Pande to complete the love triangle. Talking about the show, she said, "I am playing a character called Avni who is in her late teens. Life is extremely steady as she comes from a rich family ... and then things change. This is my first ever fiction show on Indian television and I'm very excited to be a part of it. The show is going to be a feast for viewers with a strong love story splattered with elements of fantasy. MTV Fanaah will prove to be a path-breaking show on Indian television."

HIGH FIVE: (From left) Rithvik Dhanjani, Chetna Pande and Karan Kundra at the t2 chat at Aqua, The Park

Karan Kundra is a vampire. Rithvik Dhanjani is a werewolf. Chetna Pande is the damsel in distress, caught between the two. MTV ventures into The Vampire Diaries territory with the supernatural series Fanaah, that goes on air from July 21 (Monday to Friday at 6pm). t2 engaged in a tete-a-tete with the trio at Aqua at The Park recently.

Priyanka Roy: The format of Fanaah is very intriguing and international. Is that what made you want to be a part of it?

Rithvik Dhanjani: The show itself, actually. It's definitely of international standard, not only in the way it's looking, but in the way it's written. The story is very involving.

Karan Kundra: The format is a fantasy. It's an international format and it's not going to be like a daily soap... it has got seasons. It is not like ek ladki hai and ek ladka hai, unka chal raha hai aur sab aas paas ghoom raha hai... it's nothing like that. There are five very prominent characters in the show. It's dark and edgy, the characters are not all that sweet and nice. I have a good side and a dark side...

Rithvik: All the characters are grey... they have good and bad instincts, which is real and believable. We are not here to create any adarsh bahu or beti.

Chetna Pande: Firstly it is a fantasy show, which is really exciting and my role has an edge and variations.

Shweta Keshri: So do you like playing the good you or the bad you?

Karan: Obviously the dark side! In real life, too, I am very honest... if I do something bad, I openly do it. If I am mean to somebody, I will openly be mean. In the show, there is a good and a bad side and we will be playing both. That's how usually people are... everybody has their insecurities and vulnerabilities. And the love aspect in the show is very intense.

Malancha Dasgupta: How old are you guys in the show?

Rithvik: This whole story is actually over 100 years. So it starts from 1914 or 1918 to 2014 and spans even before. Everybody is 18 for 500 years!

Chetna: Except me... I die and am born again.

Priyanka: How much of Fanaah is The Vampire Diaries?

Karan: It's as much The Vampire Diaries as The Final Destination is Aahat! (Laughs)

Rithvik: It's not The Vampire Diaries. The supernatural genre is inspired, which is your vampires and werewolves, but the rest of the story is placed in today's India... the vampires and werewolves are from Dehradun! (Laughs)

Shweta: Rithvik, you've played a werewolf earlier too... in Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani.

Rithvik: I consider myself lucky because not everybody gets a chance to play a wolf twice, except Hugh Jackman who's played it seven times as Wolverine! I feel where Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani as a character (Jeh) ended, that's where Vidyut's (of Fanaah) story starts.

Malancha: You've said that shooting Fanaah has been like shooting a film...

Rithvik: It has definitely. There is no compromise on the creative content. When you are shooting a daily soap, you get monochromatic, monotonous. With Fanaah, we are really lucky that we are actually coming out with seasons... you know what you have to do next and don't have to wait for the script to change according to TRPs. You know that you have to give your audience a story from point A to point B for the season and that's what you are shooting.

Karan: Freshness is very important for a show like this because the kids these days... they have seen everything.

Rithvik: They will laugh at you if you make a blunder. They will rip our cases apart on the Internet. They will be like: Really, werewolves and vampires talk like that? F*** you people!'

Karan: They will be like: Dude, you are too Punjabi to be a vampire'.

Rithvik: Or they will tell me: You are too Sindhi to be a werewolf!'

Shweta: Karan, how does one play a vampire?

Karan: Be malnutritioned and suck blood... that's about it!

Malancha: So what do you use instead of blood?

Rithvik: He uses blood!

Karan: I am a method actor (laughs). You want me to try? I don't have fangs here! There is obviously prosthetics... dentures... blood. I had to lose a lot of weight for this show because if you have seen me in Gumrah (the popular youth show on Channel V that's hosted by him), I was like (gestures to show he was heavier) and then I had to send my mom away for a couple of months so I could get lankier.

Disha Banerjee (first year, Shri Shikshayatan College and a Karan Kundra fan): Karan, you just mentioned Gumrah and I've always been a very big fan of that show.

Karan: Me too! (Smiles)

Disha: What made you take up a show like Gumrah?

Karan: I strongly believe that I don't take up shows or projects... it is these projects that take me. When they were planning Gumrah, they wanted a youth connect, they wanted someone who is not preachy. When I talk to teenagers, it is not like I am an uncle... I am like a friend... and I talk nonsense as well! That is why I must have been selected. At that point, I was not interested in doing daily soaps, but I wanted to remain on TV. It was a very small show and then it became something big.

Priyanka: Do you guys watch each other's work? Is there a sense of competition there?

Rithvik: Of course I have seen Karan's work... we are friends, by the way.

Karan: I've known Chetna for five years and Rithvik for two-three years now. I have seen his dancing... he is very good... and I have seen Pavitra Rishta (on Zee TV where Rithvik played Arjun) also.

Rithvik: I don't think there is a sense of competition. But healthy competition is always good to get to know where we are going wrong.

Karan: It's no fun without competition. The only problem I have with Rithvik is he doesn't drink and Chetna doesn't eat non-veg. It's such a pain!

Rithvik: I will start drinking from tomorrow!

Karan: But I do everything, I drink, I eat... I am the best out of them.

Priyanka: Chetna, who do you find hotter... the werewolf or the vampire?

Karan: See, this is where you induce competition!

Chetna: For me, both have their different places. I can't choose one. Priyanka: What is it about Rithvik and Karan that their fans don't know and you discovered while shooting with them?

Karan: He and I have been shooting together... I will tell you three things about him.

Rithvik: I will tell you five things about him. He is too Punjabi to be a vampire...

Karan: Werewolves don't eat papad... he has papad everyday!

Rithvik: If there is a chance, he will literally have the blood (used on the show) with Tandoori Chicken! But he is really cool, yaar. He is a champ, honestly. People know Karan Kundra as the teenage sensation that people listen to. If you know him in real life, you don't want to listen to him at all! (Karan looks at Rithvik and goes Sshhh')

Karan: Actually, Rithvik and I are opposites. I like how driven he is and I am totally laidback. He is very serious about so many things in life and I am like... blah, you know.

Rithvik: That keeps us going... hold each other and walk.

Priyanka: There's a palpable bromance vibe that we are getting here.

Karan: Yeah! We are crushing on each other. We are very dedicated to each other!

Malancha: What were your college days like?

Karan: I was the rockstar in college. Because till grade XII, I was 107-108kg.

Rithvik: Dude... 113 (kg), bro (points to himself). Somewhere we are together.

Karan: Once in college, I was like: I have to rock it'. And I lost weight... I was really cool.

Rithvik: I was 113kg till my (class) XII. The whole process of me wanting to become an actor started when I got into college because if you've seen the kind of energy ball that I am, I wanted to do each and every thing at the same time. So suddenly within a span of a year-and-a-half, my friends and I became the thing' in college. So, college life was fun, yaar. And now, it's even more fun because people look up to you... That was the guy we were in college with'.

Based on the young-adult book series of the same name by L.J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls where college girl Elena Gilbert finds herself drawn to the Salvatore brothers, resulting in a love triangle. But there's a problem " Stefan and Damon Salvatore are both vampires!

A fave watch of teens and tweens, The Vampire Diaries is currently in its sixth season and has received a large number of awards. And Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon, is one of the hottest men ever on television.

The Gumrah host says that Ratan makes them want to do a better job in the show

MTV is coming up with a new supernatural show which has Rithvik Dhanjani, Karan Kundra and Ratan Rajput in pivotal roles. While we know that Karan is playing a vampire and Rithvik is in the werewolf avatar again, we are totally clueless on what character Ratan will be.

Rithvik said, "We don't even know if she is playing a woman or man. It will be a surprise on July 21." To which Ratan immediately reacts, "What do you mean woman or man? Of course I am playing a woman but she could be human, witch, vampire or even a werewolf."

When we asked Karan his experience of working with Ratan he said, "Even though we are complete opposites of each other, we get along well. It's crazy working on the sets with Ratan. I never expected Ratan to be this fun, but she is a surprise package. Ever since the posters and promos of Fanaah have come out, Ratan's look and stance have eaten into our limelight. She in fact makes us want to do better."

MTV's Fanaah is an impossible love story with a lot of dark and edgy sequences that is sure to thrill the viewers. With such an interesting star cast what else can you expect, right BollywoodLifers?

Rithvik turns werewolf for TV show

Jun 28 2014 | The Times of India (Mumbai)

After playing a doting son in Pavitra Rishta and hosting Yeh Hai Aashiqui, actor Rithvik Dhanjani will soon be seen as a werewolf on the small screen.
The show, Fanaah, will also feature Karan Kundra as a vampire. Ratan Rajput and Anita Hassanandani will portray the female leads.
While sources claim that it's been inspired by popular international show, The Vampire Diaries, Vikas Gupta, programming head of the channel, said, "There will be a lot of speculations, but all I can say is that it's a homegrown story . It revolves around different generations of vampires and humans." The two male leads -Karan and Rithvik -will be at loggerheads. When contacted, Rithvik confirms, "The series will have seasons, which is very interesting. I am undergoing some changes for the part, which you will see on the screen."

Rithvik Dhanjani: Hrithik Roshan would be fit to play a vampire on the silver screen!

The Pavitra Rishta talks about his role of a werewolf in MTV's upcoming supernatural show, his probable marriage with girlfriend Asha Negi and more in this candid chat with BollywoodLife

Rithvik Dhanjani garnered a lot of praises when he played the character of Jeh Khuranna, which was a werewolf in supernatural show, Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani. And now he is all set to play the similar yet again in MTV's upcoming show, Fanaah - An Impossible Love Story. We caught up with the Pavitra Rishta actor and talked about his role, Bollywood offers and more...

You played a werewolf in Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani and now you are playing the same character yet again in MTV's upcoming supernatural show,Fanaah. How different is this role from PKYEK?

Firstly, I am very lucky to play the role of a werewolf twice. And the two are completely different. The story line and everything is different in Fanaah. The only thing which is common is that it's a werewolf. When you will see, you will come to know.

What got you excited to accept a role like this again?

There were multiple factors actually. Firstly, Fanaah will be aired on MTV. So this a completely different market that I will be catering to. It's a youth show, which makes it very different from the daily soaps that I have been doing. Secondly, the story and character drew me towards the show. The journey which my character goes through in Fanaah is to die for as far as an actor is concerned.

Did you do any kind of research for this role or did you just do what the director told you to?

I actually did a lot of research. In fact, it's still on. My main aim is to make this different from Jeh Khurranna. So what you haven't seen in PKYEK will be seen in Fanaah.

When it comes to vampires and werewolves, the one thing that comes to our mind is the Twilight series. And I am sure you must have read the books and watched the films. But apart from that, which other film or TV show of this genre that you have watched?

I loved watching The Vampire Diaries on TV.

Now Fanaah has a lot of other popular TV actors including Anita Hasanandani, Ratan Rajput and Karan Kundra. So this is by far one of the most amazing castings done for a show. How would you describe your chemistry with your co-stars?

Fabulous. They all are my friends. We hangout on a daily basis. This is the first time I will be working with friends. Initially, I used to work and make friends, so this is something which will be good. Let's see how it goes.

According to you, who from Bollywood will be fit to play vampire and werewolf on the silver screen?

Hrithik Roshan will be fit to play a vampire on the silver screen. As for werewolf, I think Vidyut Jamwal would be really good.

Moving away from vampires and werewolves, you recently participated in Nach Baliyealong with your girlfriend Asha Negi, and you also won the show. Are you gonna be participating in any other reality show?

Yes, I would be taking other reality show. But I don't want to talk about it right now. It's at a very early stage.

If you are offered to be a contestant on the next season of Bigg Boss, would you take it up?

Absolutely not. I just don't connect with that show much.

What if you were offered to enter the house with Asha?

Still the same answer. I won't be keen on doing a show like that.

Talking about Asha, we have been seeing a lot of pictures of you both on Twitter. Is marriage on cards for both of you?

Yes, of course. But not anytime for sure. It will at least take about two years or so.

We have seen a lot of TV actors making a shift from TV to Bollywood. Aren't you going to make this transition soon?

Yes, I am going to make this transition soon. There is a lot on the platter. So it's way too early to talk anything.

But can you name us one director whom would you like to work with for your first film?

For my first film, I would like to work with Karan Johar. If not him, then Ekta (Kapoor) ma'am for sure.

Rithvik said he's the luckiest kameena (scoundrel) to get to play werewolf for the second time in his life 😆, he said Hugh Jackman was very lucky to have played Wolverine 7 times and he (Rithvik) is the other one 😆

He spoke highly about grey shades in the characters, how the story revolves around key 4-5 characters - with him playing Vidhyut and Karan playing Vivaan, and Anita plays Preet. He said the seasonal format that they're experimenting with is unique for Indian television and they're trying to recreate the thrill of international series and how viewers there are excited and don't want the season to end or wait eagerly for new seasons to begin, that's what they're trying to do here with Fanaah.

Rithvik said Vampire Diaries is an internationally loved series and Fanaah is different and definitely two notches higher than the usual fare on Indian television. He said you'll see how different it is from TVD or other shows once the viewers start watching the series.

He said keep loving me and thanks for all the love. And he hoped that d Fanaah is well received.

All in all he sounded really excited about Fanaah and I hope this turns out to be another milestone in his promising career

MTV Fanaah will cater to the viewers' appetite to explore something new - Rithvik Dhanjani

20 Jul 2014

How far will he go to protect the love of his life? Will he be able to protect her when he knows the demon resides in him? It is the battle of him against himself. What will he choose? These words are a mirror to the stark reality of his life. Vidhyut, they call him. But only he knows that his faade fails to cover the piercing truth that he is a beast and he is dangerous.

The heart throb of Indian television Rithvik Dhanjani has been roped in to play the intense character and is set to make many hearts flutter with his newest venture, MTV Fanaah. The popular actor shot to fame with Star One's Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani, Zee TV's Pavitra Rishta, Nach Baliye, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 and is now hosting the popular youth love story, Yeh Hai Aashiqui on Bindaas.

In a tte--tte with Tellychakkar.com, the sexy dude gets talking about the all new supernatural series MTV Fanaah and being a part of the star cast.

So what is MTV Fanaah all about?

"MTV Fanaah is an impossible love story and what makes it all the more intriguing is the supernatural element in it. It is the story woven around vampires, werewolves and humans. It is an extraordinary love story and it has been wonderfully scripted and packaged to cater to the viewer's appetite to explore something new."

Rithvik has been roped in to play the role of Vidhyut in the show. So what is it about Vidhyut that is strikingly different?

"Vidhyut is an intense character. He is a werewolf. His character has a number of shades and layers. He is in a state of turmoil and it is a battle that he is fighting against himself. He is dangerous but at the same time is troubled too."

The actor was seen playing a werewolf in Star One's Pyaar kii Yeh Ek Kahaani too.

"It is surprising. But I think it is the faith that the creative team and director have placed in me that made me take up the role of Vidhyut as a challenge. They believed I could do this and I will make sure I give my 100% to live up to it." We wish you all the best Rithvik!

The star cast seems to be having a lot of fun on the sets with the amazing stories Rithvik shared with us.

"We haven't shot much. But whatever was shot has been a joyride. We are great friends. We have a lot of masti on the sets and our nok-jhoks just seem to make work all the more fun. We have bruised ourselves, saved each other from injuries and have been working together as a team."

MTV Fannah has been holding all its fans in high spirits, but will it be able to live up to the expectations of its viewers?

"I think MTV Fanaah has a wonderful storyline, it has real characters and the intensity and the level of relativity is high. It will break the stereotype that content on Indian TV is restricted or limited. The idea is to give the viewers a more real and newer perspective about the emerging innovative content Indian television can come up with. Since all of us have that kind of experience, it is our responsibility to pave a way for change", said Rithvik.

The show has been compared to the popular international supernatural series, The Vampire Diaries and has been speculated to be an adaptation of the same.

A soft spoken Rithvik said, "We have been asked the same question over and over again. I don't think MTV Fanaah resembles The Vampire Diaries. We aim to make a mark with our show and hope to create a new level. Since it is a youth oriented show, we hope people like and appreciate it."

In a final message to all his fans and ardent viewers Rithvik said, "We have sincerely put in our heart and soul into MTV Fanaah. So please watch MTV Fanaah from 21st July, Monday to Friday 6pm onwards only on MTV. Keep loving us and supporting us like you always do."

Tellychakkar.com wishes Rithvik good luck and success!

Karan Kundra: I think vampires are hot, sexy and desirable that's why I am doing Fanaah

Fri, July 18, 2014 9:20am

The dishy actor talks about coming back to TV with a fiction show, his new show Fanaah, playing a vampire and his forthcoming movies

Karan Kundra has played a business tycoon, a drug addict DJ, a driver and more, but this is the first time the actor is donning the character of a vampire. He describes his character to be an extremist be it in love or hatred. He told us that working on Fanaah is like working with friends especially when you have Rithvik and Chetna as company. Read the excerpts of the interview...

What is Fanaah and describe your character in the show.

MTV is starting with two major fiction shows, Yaariyaan and Fanaah. I am a part of Fanaah where I play a vampire. The show is about vampires, werewolves, witches, and their connections. It's a not a like Spiderman movie where you will see a lot of visual effects or action sequences, but you will see a very intense and strong love story. Something people can relate to - at least the youth will easily connect with it. It's dark, edgy, but it's not a horror show. There are no angels and demons in Fanaah.

How different is MTV's Fanaa from all the international and desi series we've seen?

I don't want to comment on how different it is from Vampire Diaries or Pyaar Ki Ek Kahaani Hai or True Blood. We have restructured the show in a very different format. We have a couple of seasons and limited telecast. We don't have sets, we shoot in real locations, we have five protagonists there is no lead as such in the show. It's intense, mystifying and supernatural. We've tried to create a different world completely.

Of all the offers to do fiction shows, why pick a series on vampires for your comeback?

The reason I took up Fanaah was coz my movie Dil Firey is coming out in February. I wanted to build myself and improve my acting skills for my films. What better way to do that than acting as vampires. It's a very sexy, hot and desirable and that's the reason I am doing this show. It's not like a saas-bahu show, where I play a goody goody boy. I don't like playing a good boy anymore. I like being real. So this character is very real-his is insecure, passionate, hates and love equally. Plus the show gives me time to do other things as well.

Secondly, it's not that I have been away from TV. My last fiction show was Kitani Mohabbat Hai, after that I did Gumrah and in the meanwhile I have been busy doing about four films. So it doesn't feel like a comeback. At least it didn't hit me until people started asking me how it feels to come back to fiction. The funny thing is, people who have appreciated my work and have been with me for all those romantic roles stuck with me for three years. I think it's an added advantage for me now, coz people are waiting to see me back.

Did you take any inspiration from the American series we have on vampires?

No I haven't seen Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, True Blood or the Twilight series. I think I must have seen Twilight for a friend. Edward is too white for me; I am trying to create my own character. I am trying to live the life of Vivaan - the character that has been etched out for me. I know his upbringing, where his comes from and how he lives. Vivaan is an orphan and has a poor financial background. All he knows is love and if he doesn't get that he will die.

So who is the antagonist in the show?

There are five protagonist but not in the true sense. Everyone changes when they have turmoil in their life. Somebody is falling in love, getting deceived, someone can't reciprocate love - basically there is no hero on villain on the show like we normally see in Indian television or films. We all have some shade of grey in us like most real people in this world. They are not always right, they are flawed. So there is no hero and no villain as such.

What is the one thing you like about your character?

He is an extremist. He can do anything when he is in love and when he hates. There is no mid-way for him. Secondly, he is fearless, he is honest and is not pretentious or acts to be only good. He accepts that he is both good and bad.

While doing Gumrah, you've had a lot of time on your hand to do movies and other projects. What kept you from fiction shows for this long?

I have a comedy Punjabi film -Control Bhaji Control releasing on August 22, Ram Pam Posh which will release this year. In addition to that, I have a solo romantic film called Dil Firey. I have a few movies with Vikram Bhatt as well. Fanaah is not like a daily soap so I don't have to dedicate too many days at a stretch. It will give me time to do other things as well. We haven't started shooting yet; the show is not going to start with any of us. The first few episodes will be something else.

So what's the action quotient on Fanaah?

More than action, the performances are going to be very strong. A normal human being emotes very differently from how a vampire emotes. We are still getting the hang of it. My performance is normally aggressive so I have to control it. Of course, there is some amount of action, chasing and running and jumping from heights but we haven't delved on that yet.

Are you planning to return with season four of Gumrah on Channel V?

I am not very sure as to what is happening on that front, but presently I will be focusing only on Fanaah and completing my prior movie commitments. I can't be doing too much at the same time, my main focus is my films and with Fanaah I have to manage that. I don't think I have the time to do Gumrah right now.

How is your equation with the star cast of Fanaah?

I am very friendly with Rithvik Dhanjani - we both are complete opposite. He is very driven and head strong, while I am very relaxed and chilled out, but passionate about my work. We have a very good friendship, we both learn from each other. Chetna and me are very good friends. We were supposed to start our careers together in 2008 but that never happened. So after five years we are finally getting the opportunity to work together. She is the female version of me. Ratan Rajput is a sweetheart. We are total opposites of each other but we get along like crazy. It's interesting to see how she has eaten us with her level of performance. Be it the poster, trailers or promos - one close up of her and everybody wants to know what Ratan is doing. I have met Anita at Ekta Kapoor's parties. She is a darling, although I don't know how much I will be working with her. Most of my scenes are with Rithvik and Chetna

"Vampires are very erotic, I find them very hot" - Karan Kundra

Heartthrob Karan Kundra is all set to steal the hearts of the audience through his Vampire looks in MTV India's upcoming show Fanaah.

Television's heartthrob Karan Kundra who rose to fame with a popular show Kitani Mohabbat Hai on Imagine was applauded for his outstanding role in both the seasons. He later did few non-fiction shows and some regional films. Now after a gap of 3 years the actor is back with a fiction show on MTV India titled as Fanaah where he will be seen portraying a very different kind of character of a Vampire.

We got in touch with Karan to know more about his role and what difficulties he faced while shooting for the role. Let's see what he has shared with TellyBuzz.

Karan says that he like being real and in this show Fanaah he is playing a positive role, "Did I ever think of doing such kind of a role? No! The reason I am doing this, I will be very honest is it is a positive role. My film Dil Phire is coming up in the month of February and in the spare time basically I am building up myself better and what better way to make up by doing the role of a Vampire? Vampires are very erotic, I find them very hot, they are very desirable and by playing character, it instantly makes me young. That's the reason I am doing it and it's not like juicy character or it's not like I am doing a saas bahu show where I being a full-fledged good boy, I am not like a good boy any more after doing so many bad boy roles (laughs). I like being real and that's what I enjoy.

Talking about his character Karan says, "My character in Fanaah is very real as he's got his insecurities, he's got his hatred, he's got his love, his passion and that is me in real also. The best part of doing this show is that it's a limited series, and so I can go and promote my film and come back, I can go and shoot for my second scheduled and come back that only MTV India's Fanaah can allow me. MTV is a very dark, edgy and youth oriented channel. I like the fact that youths like that and that's why I wanted to be there, so that's the reason I have come back with this show which is on MTV."

The dashing actor says that the projects choose him and he does not choose the projects, "Again the question is - Did I thought of doing the role of a vampire? No, because as I always say that I never choose projects, it's always been that projects choose me. I am sure that when people must be thinking of Fanaah, there must be people who may have thought that whom we must take as a vampire, they must have their options and they might have shortlisted me. That how simple it could happen while selecting me for this role but again I believe in energies and I believe that anything happens, happens for a reason so I think that there is something good."

Lastly we asked him what difficulty he faced while shooting for the show MTV Fanaah and Karan says, "I haven't started shooting as a vampire except for the one natural sequence where Rithvik Dhanjani pumped his knee into my ribs. I don't know that how my character will be and how I will do it. I am still figuring that as I am still reading the script, still getting into that zone because I stretched my time before I become a vampire and start killing people (laughs)."

Karan concludes saying, "I am not taking any inspiration from other shows as I have not seen Vampire Diaries. I haven't even seen True Blood, I only saw one part of Twilight, I don't know which one was it because one of my friend wanted to watch it. I am trying to present it in my way and as I said I am still working on it, I am reading the script and I am trying to live my character of Vivaan. I know his belonging, I know his upbringing, I know from where he comes and so. So Edward ek orphan nai tha, Dehradun ka nai tha, usko hindi nai aati, so how can I take anything from there. Vivaan is an orphan, he comes from a small town and is a very poor boy, he all knows is love, his necessity is love because if he doesn't love then he has nothing else to do and he will die."

TellyBuzz wishes Karan Kundra all the best for the show.

MTV Fanaah is not an adaptation of The Vampire Diaries: Karan Kundra

https://www.tellychakkar.com/tv/tv-news/mtv-fanaah-not-adaptation-of-the-vampire-diaries-karan-kundra-140719

His piercing gaze can send shivers down your spine. He is intense yet attractive. He is dangerous yet sexy. He has an air of mystery about him that inclines you to dig deep and unveil the dark truth he hides. The only exception being, he isn't human. He thrives on human blood. He is the cold one'.

The dynamic and super sexy Karan Kundra is all set to make a comeback in fictional series with the iconic youth brand MTV's supernatural series MTV Fanaah: An Impossible Love Story. After rising to fame with two seasons of the popular show Kitni Mohabbat Hai on NdTV Imagine, the actor was also a part of shows like Sony Entertainment Television's Bayttaab Dil Ki Tamanna Hai, reality show Zara Nachke Dikhaa and hosted the popular youth crime show Gumraah on Channel V.

In a heart-to-heart conversation with Tellychakkar.com, the good looking hunk gets talking about his newest venture MTV Fanaah (BBC and Lost Boy).

Be it Edward Cullen, Damon Salvatore or Stefan Salvatore. Vampires or the cold' ones, as we refer to them have a mysterious appeal we just don't seem to get enough of. Karan Kundra who plays a charming vampire in the popular series doesn't seem to give out much.

"I would just say that I am playing Vivaan in MTV Fanaah who is a vampire. I don't want to give away much about the character. You will see who Vivaan is as the story unfolds."

Attaboy!

Vampires, werewolves and humans. A love triangle. Ring a bell? Well the much talked about MTV Fanaah has been speculated to be an adaptation of popular US sitcom The Vampire Diaries.

Tellychakkar decided to clear the air.

"People have even compared MTV Fanaah to Aahat (laughs). I am kidding. But no. It is not an adaptation of The Vampire Diaries at all. This is a complete Indian series in the supernatural genre. Neither is it inspired nor is it an adaptation. It caters to the Indian audience and is a youth oriented show", says a determined Karan.

Love triangles, hatred, and jealousy. We have seen it all. What then is the USP of MTV Fanaah?

The popular actor excerpts, "I think MTV Fanaah being a youth oriented show will appeal to them in a b
etter way as compared to other fiction shows. Today, the youth want something fast paced and out of the box. Fanaah is mystic and fascinating but at the same time also showcases real, intense and beautiful characters. Their emotions, the hatred, the anguish and the love- everything is relatable. So I think that is what makes MTV Fanaah different."

MTV Fannah has been packaged in an absolutely delightful manner and is sure to glue viewers to their TV sets.

Having worked in long running traditional shows, what is the major difference working in MTV Fanaah?

"The structure, working as well as the story-telling is very different. The different shades of each character have been unfolded in an intriguing manner. It is a finite series and will not stretch beyond its need. Today there are hardly any shows that have recall value. Shows that we still remember include Nukkad, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Hum Log etc which even though were telecast years ago, are fresh in terms of its content, presentation and connection with the viewers. With MTV Fanaah, we aim to achieve a level like that and bring in change. MTV Fanaah has been conceptualized and picked up from everyday life and has supernatural elements to it", said the talented actor.

That sounds very impressive!

So tune it to watch the very charming and sexy Vampire go blood thirsty on the all new supernatural series MTV Fanaah which starts from 21 July 2014 from Monday to Friday only on MTV.

Tellychakkar.com wishes you all the very best Karan!

The role is challenging and will show me in a completely new avatar: Ratan Rajpoot

https://www.tellychakkar.com/tv/tv-news/the-role-challenging-and-will-show-me-completely-new-avatar-ratan-rajpoot-140720

It is a battle between the blood sucking creatures, the fierce werewolves and the power greedy humans. It is a mystery of irrevocable love, unbridled passion, vicious hatred and the uncertainty of entering the forbidden territory.

MTV is all set to bewitch viewers with its mystic and supernatural romantic thriller series MTV Fanaah. Tellychakkar.com caught up with the extremely talented and beautiful actress Ratan Rajpoot who will be seen in the much talked about supernatural series on the iconic youth brand MTV.

Ratan most popularly adored as the nave and selfless Laali on Zee TV's Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo won the hearts of many with her adarsh bahu avatar. She was also a part of the popular family drama NDTV Imagine's Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhaengi and the mythological fiction Mahabharat on Star Plus. She shot to fame with the popular reality show Swayamvar Season3- Ratan Ka Rishta on NDTV Imagine.

Her fans are extremely excited to see if their dear Laliya will be able to grab eyeballs with her hot and modern avatar in MTV Fanaah!

Painting a word picture of the role she is essaying in the series, the enchanting actress says, "I will be seen playing Ira. And Ira is indeed someone who has seen a lot of eras. My story begins from 1920 and gradually moves on to 2014. The role is challenging and will show me in a completely new avatar. It is very different from all the roles I have portrayed in my career. But I think it is the level to which an actor delivers something new and innovative for his/her audience that proves the versatility and brings out the best in him/her."

Well said Ratan!

Every character has a different story to tell. So what is it that makes Ira stand out from the other characters in the show?

The pretty lass excerpts, "I think it is the strength of her character that makes Ira stand apart. She is not somebody who is loving, selfless or wants to please anybody. She is bold, beautiful and takes pride in who she is. She can ruin you, tear you down and still feel no remorse. She has a mysterious and dark side to her that will unfold through the course of the show."

That sure sounds sexy and mysterious! What say guys?

Amidst the other popular youth fiction shows that have glued youngsters to their television sets, will MTV Fanaah be able to hit the bull's eye?

"It is a novel show with an out-of-the-box concept in the much loved supernatural genre. It is a youth oriented show and caters to the young generation's need to watch something new, refreshing and mysterious .We want to make a change and at the same time create an impact. We hope that our hard work may bear good fruit and MTV Fanaah does strike a chord", says a delighted Ratan.
