Priyanka brings hope to terminally ill Waheed!
'I have tried many painkillers, but none has proved to be as effective as seeing and thinking about Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra. Her smile works as medicare for me. Priyanka gives me strength to bear pain and discomfort. She is the source of my strength and is my -Angelsmilez.'
These are not the words of yet another fanatic fan of Bollywood hearththrob, Priyanka Chopra. Though, yes, the person in question is a huge fan of hers, but what separates the 19-year old UK based Pakistani boy, Waheed Mehmood from the rest of the fan brigade is that he is suffering from a rare deadly disease - Muscular Dystrophy. Waheed spends most of his days lying down and is unable to do much. He cannot even write because of his weakness.
However, according to Waheed, God has sent him an angel to stay happy, strong and confident . 'The first time I saw Priyanka Chopra was in May 2004, when she starred in ASAMBHAV. Watching her gave me hope. Watching Priyanka Chopra helps me overcome my sufferings,' he says.
In March 2006, his wish to speak to Priyanka Chopra was fulfilled . Willow Foundation, a charity that helps in fulfilling the last wishes of the terminally ill, came forward to help Waheed and enabled him to speak to Priyanka Chopra over the phone, after contacting her personal assistant Chand.
Being a die-hard fan of Priyanka Chopra, Waheed had quite a lot to say to his-Angelsmilez, but his mind went blank when she came on the line. 'I was saying thank you to her again and again, but she told me - 'Don't be silly, I am glad that I could help you. Do stay in touch .'
Though she gave Waheed her number, he could not save it since he was very weak and ill. Priyanka also sent him a smile on SMS. He further says, 'I still want to live for as long as possible."
Life may ditch this youngster soon, but yet hope floats eternal !
