Dadi.. this basically comes under the "Snob Value effect" in Economics subject!
Snob value can be anything..be it designer clothes, jewellery, expensive portraits etc etc. "Anything" which is of high value or expensive.. and has a little usefullness can be taken as Snob value.
It has existed in History since loooooooooong. The theme of superiority and inferiority are unavoidable. Seriously, first they had gold, now they have designer clothes. These are just signs..symbols..indications.. And it all revolves around high/upper society ..with middle class following them blindly. Show of money and its value has become important after industrilization....and it is still prevelent in 21st century

I can only say to people.. open your eyes.. look for good quality less price. And pay that money [which you have saved from buying snob-value goods..probably RS 1000] to the fruit-wala..from which you might only have saved 10 rupees that after a 30 minutes fight 😛
