This is the biggest achievement'
Mumbai: Afghan girl, Shakila Zareen's lifelong dream came true when she got to meet Salman Khan in his home, a couple of months ago. She was in India to reconstruct her face that was badly disfigured by her violent, gun toting husband. Shakila's meeting with the star was organised by this newspaper.
Salman told her that she was very beautiful, he gave her the courage to smile again. The superstar admitted that his heart went out to her while talking to her. "It is so sad," says a visibly affected Salman.
He says that stardom and being responsible as a star are two very different things. " This is a completely different kind of responsibility. This actually is our achievement, just standing there, by their side. Somebody is in pain and you can just smile, shake hands with them and make them forget their pain. That is the biggest achievement by far."
He admits that doing this gives him the greatest pleasure. Salman says, "It's the most amazing thing to do. I feel it is one of the biggest charitable service anyone can do. It's not about money. If you can make that person feel better, make them change the course of their life, make them fight the ailment or some other condition they are struggling with, give them the strength to live their life, it's just so superb."
Reflecting upon the lives actors touch upon through personal interaction, he adds, "I can't explain what it is or how it happens really. It's just that you are happy to see someone you don't know, you have never seen before. And you are so important to them. Your pictures are stuck on the walls of their bedrooms, they see you in cinema theatres. When they see you, they feel they know you. And to you, they are just fans. But it feels great to be able to make a difference."
