Sidharth Shukla: Balika Vadhu gave me a lot of Rajasthani fans

Richa Shukla, TNN | Jul 11, 2014, 12.00AM IST Sidharth Shukla, whose role in the daily soap Balika Vadhu won him a million hearts, was recently in Jaipur to promote his Bollywood debut, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Since the TV show is set in Rajasthan, Sidharth has a lot of ardent fans in the state. He said, "I am glad that my role in the serial got such appreciation, and because the show is set in Rajasthan, I have lots of fans here who admire and love me unconditionally."

HSKD is being publicized as Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt's film, but Sidharth has a major role in it, too. He said, "It's more of excitement rather than pressure for me right now. I know Varun and Alia have the lead roles, but mine is a pivotal character, too. It was very cool to work with both of them. They never showed any tantrums on the sets."

But the actor's journey from TV to the big screen hasn't been a cakewalk. "Since I come from a non-filmi background, I needed to learn the art. There was nobody who could tell me the basics of the glam world or teach me acting. I could not even afford to join any professional acting school to hone my skills, so I learnt on the job, and earned name as well as money to sustain in the market," he said. But Sidharth is very clear that he isn't planning to quit television at the moment. He said, "There is no question of leaving television. I have a very honest and loyal audience who follow me through my shows on TV. The small screen is still close to my heart."
