eyelids go up just a tad and a gaze is fixed on the back of the kidnapper. rocky looks at asr and leaves. camera comes close and pans around. then it comes smoothly in, changing the feel of the whole scene, its the asr signature tune. a slight zany tilt to camera...

he works on the ropes, he has managed to cut them using some mysterious thing... i don't care what... look at that jawline. and that gussa in every cell look.

This is what I am seeing him tied in between Anjali and his insecurities and Shyam is providing him enough to be free from all

he's free... yes. didn't say a word... took the whole episode.

as i watched this powerful, concentrated performance of barun as asr,👏
questions about the man himself rose in my mind.

wanted to just mull over something.

why asr said what he said. i have thoughts running in my head for a while.

on asia sat too i think his "khushi, i love you" was aired recently. i keep reading that he said what he did because of the uncertainty of the hour, perhaps because he knows he is close to death. i keep thinking, yes that, but really there was more and something very asr to it.

if i go back to the fight on the terrace and then the bridge and then the aftermath of it... there are two people greatly suffering. this is something abhorrent to him, having to actually speak of that judgment shattering, completely destructive scene on the terrace, that chap gaya hai dimag mein, mit nahin sakta moment that has torn him apart...

yet maybe that fight had to happen if this "khushi, i love you" had to be reached.

the bitterness coursing through him but bottled up more than a month had to erupt and flow out... free up a little space within. so he could think a bit more clearly, feel something.

for too long his being has been in the grip of a sadness, a betrayal that has created a break between him and life... it has untethered him from joy and happiness, sometimes from almost a sense of life itself. this world means nothing to him... as he tells his sister a couple of times... everything is about her. meri duniya toh aap ho.

Exactly , she's been his world all along and now some one else has taken up that space with her

he tries to focus every ounce of energy on creating an impregnable fortress of power and money that no one can destroy ever and throw their lives into free fall again.

arrogant and brusque he might seem, but as his sister notes, his eyes speak of someone else within, the one he hides from everyone. it is not easy being asr, but he is not looking for anyone's pity... or even understanding.

most of all, he is not asking for any personal happiness.

just the space to be who he is, live his own life.

and in the midst of this, one fine evening a girl falls into his arms. somehow from the word go the interaction is heightened... he tries to walk away from her... but that is not to happen... and things keep occurring till we arrive at that moment when he connects his heartbeat to her name...

"khushi..."

as soon as he realises what it is he is feeling, he does something absolutely like him. he sets out to pursue the matter. he makes sure he is the one going to khushi's house with things the next morning and oh that smile on his face when he sees her...

he is a guy who acts...when he realises something. not one to tarry at at all. a man of action.

and so, post terrace he acts again... this time racked with pain but yet unable to throw away that feeling he has for her. the feeling lodges itself in him now in the guise of hate... you can call an emotion anything... but it is what it is.

he forces her to marry him... he hurts her. but he can't sustain that for too long... that feeling has a way of staying alive, showing...

but at the same time the "chot" he can't speak of grows and chokes him. a difficult enough chot it would have been anyway, but how much more unbearable it is for one who had lived in pain for so long, who had never believed there could be happiness for him... a fairly austere grey brown black white world at a personal level and he is content with working hard and seeing his sister happy... but now he had dared to hope for happiness... for himself. oh maybe that's why he slowed down and prolonged the anticipation a bit, enjoying the delicious, delicate, heady feeling...

but before anything could happen, within less than a day in fact, it was all taken and twisted to something terrible.

how could he speak of this thing? and yet circumstances propelled him to the point where he did.

post which, he was almost beside himself with pain as was she. they both mean just too much to each other. so much that when he thinks she is a loose woman he must bridle her to him and when she hears what he thinks of her she can only think of his pain and how he must not think so badly of her... because baat aapki hai...

they spend a couple of really difficult days. and the one night together... he insists she sleep in the room, on the bed, and no arguments. he will not explain anything to her, he won't listen to her but he can't bear her rearranging his room again and taking all signs of herself away.

again in that action taking way of his, he is leaving for london in the midst of all this... perhaps he really can't bear the turmoil within. persistently, he is reminded of a khushi with joy in her, her usual sanka, her madness, he hates to see her down and listless.

then the airport scene. he smiles almost when he sees her... then tries to walk away, but can't... shayad mera dil tumhe pukarta hai?

twice he returns... and finally when nothing works he leaves, but before that he says perhaps kahin na kahin he had hoped she would be able to prove her innocence. he had wanted her to... that in itself is a huge thing for asr to say.

he was feeling churned and helpless in his own way maybe...

as he walked away from her and that air of finality all around... in that slow long walk through the airport his emotions didn't settle, he in a way couldn't walk away from his feelings... and then a simple question, kyun mujhe khushi se door jaane mein itni taqleef ho rahi hai... words to that affect. why is it hurting me so much to leave khushi and go away.

i think he stopped then... and began to turn around.

the precise moment when he was waylaid...

why do i get the feeling, asr had worked out a little conundrum there, he had realised that no matter what... even if she could not prove her innocence, he loved her.

and being asr, maybe he needed to act on that.

the phone call did not materialise at his bidding. circumstances forced shyam to get him to make a call to the family and reassure all. and maybe he decided somewhere that he would take the opportunity to tell her what he was now ready to.

the "khushi, i love you" was as much a result of that thing in asr to act as it is due to the spectre of mortality staring at him down a revolver's barrel. had he in fact reached london safe and sound, i have a feeling he'd still have found the quickest way to let her know he loved her.

because as he said much later to her, that is all that matters... that has matlab... that he loves her, dammit.

somehow i can't bring myself to believe had he not been kidnapped, he would have hung around doing sundry things while fully realising, why leaving khushi was giving his so much taqleef.

what he succumbed and submitted to was a feeling... his heart over his head.

and he reached out to her and in his way said that baat aapki hai had registered, that he was okay, he was fine, she must not cry... it was somehow all about her and his feelings for her, about reaching her, perhaps the way she had been trying to reach him... and he wanted to tell her what he had so longed to tell her once, now he was not going to let anything stop him, now that he knew even betrayal did not matter, only this did. yes, in all of this, rocky's swagger was useful but was it instrumental?

i may be quite unclear... but somehow an asr who speaks of his love only because he may not see her again and this could be it, does not sit well with me. not this man.

the rest of the episode had khushi taking risks and mami loving nephew and strategising. interestingly they showed a silhouette of shyam much like the one used in the teej "reveal" sequence. maybe this was another reveal of another face of shyam... i wondered if he had planned on khushi following him... he had noticed she was not quite herself... maybe she had guessed something... shyam wanted to get her off his back perhaps. but i am not sure really. khushi showed she had presence of mind when she went into offence is the best defence mode... and there was something ridiculous yet sinister in seeing a man who looked like a boring but harmless middle school geography teacher with a gun.

but really, nothing really cut any ice with me, other than two hands moving determinedly, freeing themselves.

indi 😊
I hear your frustration and I totally seeing this in the same angle but with slight tilt...Absolutely no way that he is saying I love you and she will take it and yes at his point they know each other very well so for me it is a hint for the nest level..."Khatra...theek nahin ..khuch to galat...like that...

ASR when he left Airport , he was very much vulnerable and in anger but the moment all reels up...Arnav could go further "khushi se door jane mai...

He knows he let her i that distraught state and he needs to comfort her and those words were just comforting words...now a confession that is why it is a confession all along ...not in that particular moment.. for me when I wrote that piece at the front page with VM..It doesn't suit or click with your brain...

Now all this week epis till 265...is just like figuring out "Hero has gone what to so" taking time...strategy and keeping him in some pre done scenes so audience remain chill ...

Thnx for this pent up emotional one...

Episode 266 Part 1

A heady giddy rushing sensation of being swept off my feet tonight as she ran from afar and flung her arms around him. Are you Barun and Sanaya today? You seem to have permeated every essence of the two lovers tonight who have finally found their way back to each other after what seems like a struggle forever.

Soft notes of music had wafted in earlier.. He wondered how his wife knew he was in some danger. She knew because on the phone he had told her wo baat. Three simple words that made everything simple between them. He loves her. All this time all those faraq padta hai and all the faraq nai padta hai were simply this.. An expression of his love for her..

Rocky came in earlier and in his peculiarly authentic accent tried to force Khushi to eat. ASR frantically peeped from across the ventilator. His dear wife had come to rescue him and had even been hit trying to get to him. Now because of him some roadside scum was getting a chance to lay his filthy hands on her. He made an effort to remain silent hoping Rocky would leave. From across the opening he saw how frightened she was. Almost terrified she ran and then tried to hit back. She could not bear anyone laying even a finger on her. A long time ago when they were taking their first tentative steps in love, in Nainital someone had dared to make this foolish mistake. Hurt Khushi. And ASR had lost all semblance of control even then, all those days ago. Today he poured in every ounce of strength he possessed and additional reserves came from the deep sense of violation in him. Someone was hurting her, his wife, the woman he loved and had vowed to protect. He was outraged. With a violent nerve shattering roar he willed the grill to move and it had to give away. It was exceptionally painful to watch him this angry and in agony.

If in the very first episode the ASR music played when the ruthless millionaire partly avenged his di's and his childhood tears, today the same music plays as ASR annihilates Rocky. "How dare you?" .. On holi a random stranger had dared to dance close to his wife and even in his slightly intoxicated state, both from the bhang and happiness, ASR has shown territorial gussa. Then today there would be no stopping him. The man has fallen unconscious and a shaken ASR tries to get a grip on himself. The adrenaline rush that had kicked in slowly subsides and Barun manages to convey this man has been held in captivity for so long. The burst of energetic violence has left him drained out , but he is more worried about another.

"thik ho tum?" And she shakes her head in disagreement.. He blamed her of an affair with Shyam. He admitted that was the reason of the contract marriage. He refused to believe in her innocence. He went missing. He confessed his love for her. She came to know he was kidnapped and somehow miraculously thankfully she managed to find him. And now he had almost killed a man trying to protect her. Must be hurt himself too. Seeing him in front of her is not enough. She needs to feel him. Hold him close to her heart. The same heart that races whenever he is near her. If there was ever a question of why she gives an answer today.

The world fades away. Time slows down while Arshi stand in the purest of embrace. And I use a word which is an amalgamation of Arnav and Khushi because am convinced what I just witnessed was the coming together of two souls in sheer bliss.

If he said I love you in words. If his actions right now shouted of his boundless love, how would she show her undying devotion towards her Arnavji? Whoever wrote this scene I will come run and hug you. Maybe even smother you with my tight grip in appreciation of the work of art that you have created and shared with us.

She comes hurtling towards him.. Minute details.. Her feet rising from the ground as she literally flew into his arms. Buries her face into the crook of his shoulder. And as he stills.. breathes in this joyous feeling. His arms raise to pull her against him. What seems a lifetime ago they had stood in a hospital corridor and she had hugged him when she had been completely broken. He had remained inert even though he longed to comfort her. Today all barriers are long gone. He can reassure her and also get all the reassurance he craves from her. After all this is their very first meeting after he has said.. Khushi I love you..

Had their first hug been in the rain on that night in the parking lot? It had felt like he had snatched her just in time from the clutches of death that day. Kept her safe perhaps for himself, so that he could come alive. All those times they thought they were moving away from each other destiny kept bringing them closer. A lovely happily melodious rendition of rabba ve plays along.. I may be wrong but I think it is the teri meri one playing.. Anger, hatred, denial, concern, care, desire all have been elements in their story.. So many moments to relive today. So many random scenes I remember today. This is the first time they have met after he has confessed his love for her to her. He has twirled her around and touched her as the music played. The have shared a dance. His very first dance, because he never did dance before. They have shared a kiss. Her very first kiss, who would have thought it would be with that laad governor who sent her heart reeling in dhak dhaks.

The sight leaves me speechless. Ecstatic, relieved, exhausted yet soaring, falling all at the very same instant. He is safe she gets to hold him. He is alive, she is close. When he must have feared life was at one of its worst and he had no way out, suddenly everything that he needed was right there in his very arms. At the very beginning of this journey when he least expected it she had landed into his arms. It is in minutes like these a man reaches a heightened level of happiness. Almost a sense of nirvana. His eyes closed, he smiles. What an aesthetic way the makers found to express love and one's surrender to it..

Danger threatens. Alert they grabbed each other's hand and as IS put it beautifully, the lovebirds flew out of their cage.

episode 265

the breath was always key, at the core of story. saansey ruk jaygi, hamari dhadkane ek ho jaati hai, acidity, dhakdhak. there were many ways the breath came and gave life to story.

and then there was gust of wind, smoothly breezing in, wrapping around two strangers who would be lovers one day, sometimes it lifted a veil and stroked against a man's face leaving a touch behind, at others it came and left in a quick swirl, or it came and stayed and breathed as if waiting for them to see something, to realise something. that day in berserai, way back in episode thirty something, they spoke not a word to each other, he tried, she rushed away, but for long moments, gust of wind stayed and murmured, a bated urgency in it.

i wonder was the wind as if a symbol of breath too? that of the skies, the heavens, the universe itself? i am letting myself go a bit into this ornament that decorated the love story... a simple sound handled with finesse and complete imagination... something that might have become utterly corny like many other things in the tale, but somehow didn't.

it's always been in the air... and it has been different, given a sign when they have sensed and felt each other, been attracted, taken note of the other, longed. in that first rabba vey, it was the wind that rushed in first, later when he thought she had left for lucknow but she hadn't, it was again there the moment she walked in with the sweets for anjali's anniversary... and later still on a day the electricity went, he walked into the house and felt her presence thanks to that susurrating sound of a breeze.

and today after many days of not seeing one another, of constantly wanting to see the other, of fearing yet loving fearlessly, of suffering yet loving with pure joy, they are on either side of a wall...

we could all see it was a cardboard structure... it shook every time barun or sanaya touched it. sometimes it just moved on its own, perhaps even the gust of wind too much to bear. the otherwise realistic set was suddenly reduced to what it was... a tacky tv serial set... where possibly the funds were already on the wane.

and yet, it really didn't matter.

what i saw was so beautiful, that's what counted.

the writing of this meeting was done with great care and empathy with very specific asr khushi notes in it; the direction was intricate; lighting, editing, sound... everywhere there was the creative person's interest and effort showing. and oh the acting. without a word, with minimum gestures, how two actors made me believe yes, it is possible to feel the other even through a thick impenetrable wall.

two people deeply involved do probably sense each other... i at least think so. and there is a coming together of prana, breath maybe in them too. khushi and asr have spent many months together, seeing, hearing, feeling things, over time perhaps a sixth sense about each other has grown. no, not perhaps, it has... and kidnap was the ideal time to explore it.

in the godown, she awakens, "
yeh kaisi jagah hai, hum yahan kaise pahunche?" what sort of a place is this, how did i get here? then she seems to recall that rocky hit her. she looks around flustered, disoriented... tense.

rocky with his scorpion tattoo was reminiscent, for me, of shakaal with his odd shoe size in yaadon ki baraat... an obvious little giveaway that leads the protagonist to some major find/truth. filmi, hindi filmi, but it brought her here to this wall.

beautiful first shot of him, mysterious, fleeting, he sits on the other side... then a closing up and a good look at the captive.

he was flopped against the wall, perhaps a wave of hopelessness washing over him when he heard it... the gust came from nowhere and halted him in his tracks, eyes registered it... something, what was that... out there.

and an instant or less later, her head stopped moving jaggedly, her thoughts changed track , she had heard it too... it touched her...

piano notes trilled in...a feeling you have felt looking into each other's eyes, facing each other, it perhaps finds ways to imprint itself in you and you begin to sense the other even when that one is not right before you.

there was energy and movement in the frame at once, his eyes darted, no lack of focus, worry, fear, nothing in it anymore; only a search... perhaps a lick of hope.

hey hey.

she turned her head... focus coming into her eyes too... behind her maybe there was something?

his head turned toward the same wall between them... sensing. yes a cardboard wall that shook, but the density and of expression...

she looked at the wall in wonder... what was behind it, why did it call her...

he turned further, his ears straining it seemed to catch a clue, something... what was there...

and the next level of longing... of sensing, a hand came up. touch. her fingers traced a path up the wall, searching.

the sense of sound is the last to go i hear, is it the first to be alerted?... do we "hear" our instinct?

he moved in to touch the wall too...

and as she felt him through that wall, her memories unshackled... a cascade released that they both felt and touch and immersed in. a moment of pure connection between two people who were connected in ways even they had no idea of...

is this love? is this the ideal we seek ? is there something biological here? or is it just plain fantasy that has no basis in what really happens? would we be fools to believe in such things...? yet haven't we felt things about those we connect to without there being a rational basis for it? and love, is it not inherently extra-logical... extra-rational? my favourite logical vulcan, spock, never quite understood it. in a way, my dear handsome asr was vulcanish... till it was time to be human and perfectly, headily utterly illogical.

the first memory: it's the first rabba ve...he looks stunned at her. is that when the absolute anchoring happened and that thread that started with a snap picked its first real perfect pearl?

back in the present: he brought his other hand up, wanting to feel her, touch her with all of him... always this need in him... where is she? is she here? there's only one person who makes him feel this way... no other. is she here? his fingers felt the wall almost full of wonder... hope, yes... only hope... and longing maybe. for many days he has sat in a dark room, bound... he has summoned his will, his courage to free his hands, he has worked his mind to think. but in his heart a yearning he has spoken of, khushi, i love you, and then has had to leave alone. but now perhaps that longing erupts... completely taking him away from every rational thought and flinging him into a torrent of hope. there was a sense of inevitability perhaps seeping into the darkness and now it seems shaken..

the next memory: colour. touch. feelings. on a rangoli they lie... what happens to our emotions when they fly around and settle here and there leaving colour, marking their place?

she stares at the wall in wonder. it seems to say something. she has not seen him for days, she has worried, fretted, dreamed, feared the worst... arnav ji is all her heart has focused on. nothing else. maybe that's why there was the sensitivity in her that was needed to feel the call...

a memory: and he touches her... she feels it on her ankle, a payal slipping on...

a funny sort of accepting in both that this is no coincidence or hallucination. she articulates it, "aise kyun lag raha hai jaise arnav ji yahin kahin hain?" why does it feel as though he is here somewhere?

his eyes say the same. a little lifting of lips as a memory overwhelms him... of picking her up and making her sit up on bed, taking care of her... ah nainital, so long ago, even before he had any idea this might be love, even when he was with another.

she seems to catch the drift of that same memory and recalls what came after. she had run to him in the hospital.

the feeling is to real, it seems to galvanize him, he gets up from the floor, and tries to reach up and look at the other side through the ventilator... a kiss by a poolside flashes through their minds...

hear, touch, want,... stages of connection.

her eyes grow keener, searching...

both are ready to move toward each other... here, right here.

from an inner space a leap is taken, a boundary scaled and a need lands on the hard harried floor of a warehouse.

both get up and look around for a way to reach something. a note of desperation. restless to find out if what they suspect is indeed true.

and it's time for the next sense. sound. to speak the word. on her lips, "arnav ji," with her eyes closed, as though it is a prayer... but then, isn't it? the lover's name in its purest most sacred call is a call to the eternal... to life itself, isn't it?

arnav ji.

we see him straight after that call. he has heard it... yes, he has... music takes note. an energy a racy urgency in it now, a dynamism, an excitement.. a sense of right here right now.

khushi?

one word... changes everything.

she is here.

his entire focus shifts... she is here. his head turns and this time unerringly it finds the ventilator that looks into the room abutting

he's at the wall again and a sotto voce, throbbing, "khushi!"

her eyes are still shut... then she hears it...eyes open wide.

she is here and in him a vigour fresh and ascendant... khushi!

he's trying to reach her, calling out, straining against the wall, possibly already thinking how to break it down...

khushi!

but she is almost hyperventilating... disbelieving... relief mixing with pent up emotions.

they stand on either side of a ridiculous cardboard wall calling out to each other as though an ocean separates them... just because of the power of acting, i am convinced it does.

"arnav ji, arnav ji!" a smile in her through the tears... "woh woh yahin hain!" he is here.

khushi!

khushi! he is beside himself with emotions of all sorts.. and oh the energy flowing rushing whirling into him... man taking command, taking charge. who cares who is the captive and who the captor... he is asr and his wife is on the other side of the wall and he is going to get her...

not for a second did i doubt he would. no matter what the needs of the narrative, he would get to her. defying the writers and directors, even channel if need be.

she cries clinging to the wall as he calls her, bangs the wall... like that phone is this wall to her, something that has her arnav ji... and he ready to scale it because it parts him from her.

"khushi, khushi, upar ki taraf dekho, ventilator hai..." look up, khushi, there's a ventilator above.

solutions he has looked for all his life, especially when emotions have overwhelmed him. now too. look for a way to solve this situation.

"haan hume dikhi... ek minute ek minute," yes, i have seen, one minute...

she feels the flow of life asserting instantly. there is a way to him... she will solve this problem too... khushi always took action as well, once she had focused on an issue.

he has found a chair and reached the ventilator looking down, "khushi" he calls.

and then the sweetest thing. "khushi dhyan.. dhyan se..." khushi, careful! tender urgent voice and like a blessing, ah a note of asr anger, clenched teeth too... "be care.. careful khushi...!"

where is dammit... when the dammit is here all is right with the world... such specific characterisation.

she looks up at the voice, then climbs up onto the box and her first sight of him in days... rabba vey had to burst forth, her heart... it's all her heart talking

and his.

brilliant use of rabba vey to say it all... it gushes forth... no soft trilling in...

a look, a smile, a tear... and a hand reaches the mesh in between, a need to touch, to feel assured, it is you, you are here.

his fingers rise to meet hers. there are doubles and fake walls, but there is a real feeling. and a song too.

as he touches her fingers, the girl to leave whom he only feels taqleef and who maybe for a short while he had feared he may not see, asr is simply moved to tears... this is khushi and he can touch her, see her, hear her.

the love of his life, someone he had never ever thought he would find, in fact how securely he had locked every door to that possibility, yet she had found her way. found her way to him... found him.

i can't believe it's you she wept, exhausted by the emotions of what seems like a lifetime.

"khushi, main..." his voice was tender... what did he want to say?

"akhir humne aapko dhoond hi liya..." i did find you finally, she said jubilant and maybe still a little disbelieving.

he nods with the sweetest smile and then, "dhoond liya tumne." the delivery was outstanding i thought... crisp, cool and dense, with wonder and love in it.

she did find him despite all. and he loved her because she found him... him that had receded so deep within that nothing could reach... she did reach it.

magic moments between two lovers in a darkened miserable place where danger lurked yet was somehow made irrelevant... because dhoond liya tumne, because khushi, i love you... because of a wind you can feel and a song in your being.

she leaned closer as he looked at her as if recording her every little nuance and storing it in him.

she peered at him and a gaze that said she worried.

he reassured her, "khushi, i'm fine!"

"nahin!" her voice was not tender. it was irritated and full of angry love...

with a right she had never shown before, she stormed, you are not well, i knew you were in trouble. why did you lie to me on the phone?

he tried to handle it. "khushi, stop..."

"nahin! hum nahin rukenge..." she is not stopping, she is the aap shut up girl, she is not going to listen to you just because you are asr.

beautiful. normal rhythms of asr khushi surging in...

she is angry, he is trying to stop her. but she rants, i know you aren't ok so why are you lying to me...

how much love is there in every word, every look.

these two actors are not shooting together, yet the matching of emotions the perfect rally of words... not for a second falters.

"khushi, shh!" he knows she is concerned.. otherwise how dare anyone talk to asr like that...

"ok.. hum sab kuch discuss kar lenge..." we'll discuss everything.

i feel like giggling... how much this man abhors melodrama and high emotion. all the time trying to pull it down to a reasonable "normal" level.

of course, he had to fall for jhalli drama queen. life's law that is.

"pehle mujhe yeh grill todni hogi..." first i have to break this grill.

she grabs his hand, you are going nowhere, mister.

"khushi, tum chahti ho main tumhare paas aaon..." khushi, you want me to come to you? gently, softly, he asks rhetorically... she was only eight when her loved ones were suddenly gone... maybe he knows how vulnerable she is... a child within still hurting... like him.

he reasons with her...

she won't let go still... he will not shout today, instead, a hand comes up to join their clasped fingers, and, "khushi, main tumhare paas hi hoon, yahin pe." khushi, i am near you... here.

he has never ever spoken to her with his feelings so bare, though he has longed to, now that he has said what he has, that she is before him, the tenderness of the most angry i don't care man sees no need not to flow...

i love you says his every look, every word...

all he wants is her... nothing else.

when she tries to help him with the grill.. "khushi, no, don't! main kar loonga, tumhe lag jaygi.." i'll do it, you'll get hurt... i want to weep. the writing of asr in this different moment is flawless.

"khushi, i said neeche utro..." khushi, i said get down.

"nahin, hum yahan..." no, i here...

imaptient move of head, "khushi, go now..." a peek of asr anger, so natural and a beautiful detail.

"dhyan se! khushi, you ok?"

no doubt now who is in charge.

"arnav ji!" she panics when she can't see him for an instant.

"khushi, main yahin hoon, i'm right here"... the voice is sure, the look is full of softness.

"main yeh grill todkar uss taraf aa rahan hoon, okay?" i'll break this grill and come to the other side, okay?

"relax."

i pass out quietly at that relax, so so asr.

and there's an an interruption by rocky. when asr realises his girl was touched by the cretin, a sharp, "usne mara tumhe?" he hit you? the anger is here...

"ek tarah se accha hi hua warna hum aap tak kaise pahunch paatey..." in a way it was good, she said, how'd i have reached you otherwise.

he strains in anger.

and suddenly his concern for her makes him furious... he says paradoxically, what was the need for you to come here! how did you get here! "khushi tumhe... tumhe kuch ho jata toh." khushi, if something happened to you...

and we are on a road... at night when he had felt he might have lost her...

arnav singh raizada can bear everything but not losing khushi.

"itna bada risk leni ki kya zaroorat thi..?" what was the need to take such a big risk?

she is smiling, he is raging.

"khushi, what's so funny! muskara kyun rahi ho!" he is rough and angry.

"itne din jo ho gaye aapke daant sunke," it's been so many days since i heard your scolding.

joyous writing... stupendous acting.

kyun dard hai itna plays... she smiles at him as he looks on at her touching her fingers, giving in to that love. no one, he perhaps feels, loves him as much as this pagal of his. the one who puts mango juice in shoes, and sugar in petrol tanks, and who wants him to shout at her.

all the sadness and longing of the days gone by seep into the frame, as two lovers meet and unite, no matter there is a wall in between...

was this not true uniting too, a consummation? with both hands they grab each other. a rope is passed between the mesh by both as he devises a way to take out the grill.

"you told me tumhe pata hai main musibat mein hoon... kaise..."

khushi, you said you knew i was in trouble... how.

khushi, i love you... she remembers.

that string between them held taut by him, there was always a tie, a dori, a rishta. great touch.

the breath... the wind... khushi and asr to me were always about life. never death. to be immortalised they did not need to die like heer ranjha, romeo juliet, laila majnu... they were the lovers of our times who could rave rant fight scream misunderstand nahin understand and love deeply passionately imaginatively, emotionally, physically,
with telepathy, and in a way be in the moment and yet transcendent.

this meeting between any two lovers would have been memorable. but this one was so truly khushi asr, including gussa and sanka.

asides
that setting up of a night away using mami ji and her sudden love... stay with your family to khushi... while a bit obvious, filled me with delight... the hugs are here and so is the hut.

what was that whole payal in a restaurant with coffee drinker about? was something considered then canned? or was it truly time pass... maybe a screen test for the guy... strange to say the least.

"Shame to shame" said mamiji. Really what a shame that all this following of clues failed to generate suspense. A few days back while mamiji and Khushi had watched the security footage and mamiji's hand had involuntarily risen to console her dear Arnav bitwa's wife I had wanted more from the scene. But today when the gruff old mamiji suggested Khushi stay back in her maternity home I felt a stirring in my heart. This lady did know the usually bright chirpy girl was going crazy with worry. And why would she not know, since it was apparent to all that Khushi loved her Arnavji to distraction and was inconsolable without him. Furthermore mamiji was in on the inside story. Arnav bitwa was kidnapped. That she conveniently forgot all this when Khushi and Arnav returned and were blaming Shyam I cannot fathom why.

And so the episode moved on. Khushi stood with her back facing Rocky. Rocky was delightfully unruly goon like with the paan shop owner. Khushi turned and her eyes registered the scorpion tattoo. She followed him at a distance I personally thought was foolishly and dangerously too close. Even then I was pretty sure nothing important would happen. After all nothing major had happened yet, so it did not seem probable that our heroine would find her hero. Right then in edged Rocky from behind with a menacing look metal rod. Bamm! And a blood curdling cry.

Completely random screen space for Payal.

Fade out and Khushi wakes up. Her head hurting. The light bulb, the warehouse all uncannily similar to where ASR is held hostage, but I remembering thinking this is just a red herring. She is in a completely different place. Don't get your hopes high. They cannot meet yet. Then comes that ventilator. On the other side is ASR sitting. Am still worried though. What if they don't get to know how close they really are? His head lolling to the side, exhausted stance, eyes unfocused. He is somehow holding on. Suddenly a familiar gust of soothing wind and he sits up straight. She stills on the other side of the wall too. Rabba ve happily chimes in.. Both drawn to what lies beyond the wall. They have felt each other's presence. Utterly improbable, but their heart knows that the one it beats for is somewhere close. It does not seem unbelievable. It does not seem corny. All it shows is how magically compelling it is to watch their love story. And I shake my head and think, could it have been any other way.. They cannot be kept apart for long. Love was always destines to find its own way. If I could compose music, pen down poetry, paint a picture or even borrow verse from Shakespeare I would still not be able to fully capture how ethereal the scene felt.

Tenderly with so much love Arnav's shaky hand reaches out to touch the wall. He can't comprehend what it is that is calling out to him. Khushi's hand is right there across the barrier ready to reach out to him. A beautiful riveting long drawn out breathless expectant moment of mehsoos. Memories.. The first time his senses were thrown in disarray seeing her in red.. His color on her.. They lay entwined in a swirl of colors.. He had fallen and taken her with him.. Fallen.. In love? Holding her dainty foot and putting on her ma's Payal.. An intimate man woman moment.. Whom do you give such a right to? He had wanted to take care of her. She had run upto him and flung herself into his arms.

He stands up now. The feeling that she was somewhere near could no longer be ignored. How badly he had wanted to capture her inviting lips in his and maybe even do a lot more? How badly she wanted to experience what this man could make her feel? Both restless. Almost a sense of dance, where the dancers are trying to seek out each other, as on the opposite sides of that wall these two took complimenting steps exactly in sync. Not even sure what it is that they ache to find. The music picks tempo to match their movement.. enhances the escalating mood.. She closes her eyes and whispered "Arnavji".. A prayer that carried to him.. Drum beats, was it, that kicked in? His gut feeling was correct. She is right here.. "Khushi?" ..

Our clever ASR finally comprehends. She is across the wall. His fist hit the wall in impatience. He has to get to her. As always brilliant body language of Barun. And while ASR shows urgency Khushi shows another wonderful emotion.. Relief.. She lets go.. Ipk understood emotions perfectly. She has kept her worry in check because there was a much more vital task to take care of. Find Arnavji. Now that she has found him she allows herself to break down in relief. Sinks to the floor. And Khushi sobs sweetly flinging herself against the wall.

Resourceful as always he has figured out they can talk through the thankfully well placed ventilator. What is in his voice.. "Khushi.." breathlessness.. Worry.. Relief.. Love.. The high pitched rabba ve as she finally climbs up and they see each other was one of the two things that felt out of place to me. The second being the apparent set of wrong hands on either side.

Their fingers are entwined through the grill. His face has immeasurable peace in its expression. He is so happy to see her. I detect a dash of pride as well at his jhalli girl's ingenuity. He is grateful he gets to see her. And paramount he is delighted to see her display of love towards him. Because isn't this whole scene simply about that wondrous feeling called love?

She is smiling too. The imminent danger forgotten as they revel in the miracle. "Aakhir humne aapko dhoondh hi liya.." .. Words that tell him how much she has been through.. He nods.. "Dhoondh liya tumne".. Barun's rendition of Arnav has brought tears to my eyes time and again. All that his expressions convey if I sit to write this take might not ever end.. What has she really found? Colors in the dull life of the haunted shadows of ASR? Laughter in a broken boy who had forgotten to smile? Faith in the deep crevices of the sardonic man's tender heart? Love, when he thought he was incapable of experiencing this gift? Or breath in a man who had forgotten how alive he could feel? She clutches onto his hands brings her face closer. On holi she had displayed this same love and he had been touched beyond belief then too, but now after he has admitted his love for her when he had not expected her to be in front of him here she stood clearly very much in love with him too. He savours the feeling..

She loses control and behaves like a girl wanting reassurance.. He gladly takes over the mantle of the in control male.. "Khushi.. Shhh.. I am okay".. And now that I have seen you my darling and can feel all your love and care, how in the world can I be anything but okay?.. Are what his laconic words feel like to me.. He wants to break the grill to come to the other side. . She catches hold of his fingers even more desperately.. He had let go those very fingers at the airport, but today she can no longer bear even the slightest distance. His face shows the delight he feels. How do you tell a person you love him without uttering the words? You hold on to his fingers more firmly than ever and let your eyes and streaming tears do all the talking.. He understands. He is calm and indulgent.. Talks to her like you would to a child.. She brings out the same feeling of care and protectiveness in him.. Of course she also brings out other extremely grown up related feelings in him too, as we will soon get to witness and swoon over..

"Hum ye sab discuss ker lenge baad main.. phele mujhe ye grill torni hogi" .. He wants to break the grill.. she tries to help.. And why is it that even this slightly male dominant air that Arnav has of doing it himself and sending Khushi down, lest she hurt herself, feel this attractive? Quite independent minded I am, still completely smitten by this chivalrous protective Arnav. When her eyes couldn't see him there is an beguiling moment of innocent panic.. "Arnavji?" .. He seems to be bewitched by his wife showing all her love. Looking at the number of times I seem to mention this I guess this is what enchants me most today. His happiness at her openly unguarded display of love. The makers of the show almost consistently and unfailingly accurately understood this emotion and the actors portrayed it to perfection.

Into the frame creeps Rocky's arm to make this lovers meeting even more captivating. He is serving her good food, did you notice? He lets slip in a thick accented voice, he had hit her. Poor guy has just signed his near death sentence. ASR doesn't take kindly to people laying a finger on his wife. "Usne maara tumhe?" The rage and helplessness portrayed as ASR tightens his grip on the grill, his entire body convulsing forward. She doesn't care. All she can think of is it led her here.. to him.. He can't let it go this easily.. "usne tumhe maa..".. The lips purse.. he can't even bear to utter those words out loud.. How dare someone hit his Khushi.. "tumhe kuch ho jata toh?" .. How many times has he shouted these words before.. All the while his body seems to thrash out with the pent up anger, frustration.. And she smiles almost at peace through her tears.. "What's so funny? Muskura kyu rahi ho?" .. Here he is completely freaking out in anxiety and this jhalli girl smiles.. What the.. This intermingling of English words and Hindi in ASR's dialogue add so much to the character for me.. He is worried and less in control.. So naturally more English comes out in his thoughts.. Stylish classy this man thinks in English. You just know it.. I have seen a lot of actors try to mimic this English speaking modern air and not get it right while Barun with his slightly ajeeb accent fits in perfectly into character. He moulds it in such a way that it is impossible for me to now see a havard returned progressive intelligent character on screen without comparing him to Arnav Singh Raizada.

"Itne din jo ho gaye aapki daat sune".. She has missed his anger, that is also an essential definitive part of who he is. She has missed him so much. Khushi can't controlled the laughter any longer, while words desert him. Perhaps there is nothing left to say at this moment. His fingers again find hers. Who cares if the world is coming to end.. Who cares if their lives are in danger.. Who cares of anything.. The present is now.. And in this now they have just lived an eternity. They have each other. Safe in their sight. And sure it would have been even better if he could engulf her in his longing arms. Certainly it would have made her feel safer if she could feel his protective arms around her, but the touch of fingers and sight of the face they and with them we have been starving to get a glimpse of is enough to not want anything else.

A slight calming down as they get to gratefully drink in each other's presence. The frayed rope is put to use and the piano notes woo us further. He decides to ask the most important question.. "Khushi tumhe pata tha main koi musibat mein hun.. Kaise?".. In flashes those words.."Khushi I love you".. Her quiet eyes find his.. And though I do think Sanaya might have given an even better take throughout the 20 odd minutes if Barun was actually in front of her, the episode was nevertheless close to perfect.

Beautiful writing rhea...esp in red.
Reading you, many memories came back rushing how I felt watching it on screen the first time.. why now.. may be I never really revisited these tracks, episodes again until now.
First time watching Khushi submitting infront of him... he always seemed to be confessing a lot amidst that anger... but she not as much... first time they are cordial face to face.. first time he is utmost soft with her.. first time their flood gates open.. it was very very emotional union for them.. for me too. That pride in her at that.. dhoodh liya.. was priceless.. how the BDs spoiled a lot. otherwise could have easily been one of my most fav sequences..
@blue, yes every micro emotion of falling in and feeling love was portrayed to the perfection..
lovely piece rhea.

That sheer excitement, happiness of their first hug dabbed all across your write up rhea. It has exactly been an year's journey by then.. too long a wait with too many things happening between them. never did a hug felt to have more essence .. and do what it meant to.. than here. and that "theek ho thum" intead of his trademark tum theek ho... added a flair of naturality..along with those tired gasps and her negating that question was the sweetest.. she wasn't well for a long now with all sorts of troubles from the most silly/ trivial to the most painful.. and the power to theek all her worries is only in his arms..
she very fierce crashing of her on him from a far that literally shook him.. most impactful..
and lastly when they fly away.. as IS beautifully said.. he wouldn't leave one hand even for that brief sec to hold with the other .. not sure if it was deliberate or accidental.. but it added so much craving .. not to let her go even for the briefest..
Lovely .

Thnx for this pent up emotional one...

hi faiqa,

thanks for reading and yeah, hero not being around has zeroed in on the weaknesses within the ensemble.

i found that connection you made with his words and her picking on khatra very interesting... she kept saying something must be there otherwise he would not say something like that so easily...

very natural and instinctive writing... he may not have sent it as a signal, but she after completely immersing in his love and that dream with aaoge jab tum, started to pick on the next layer of communication... something didn't feel right... beautiful that sussing was.

i am glad that the writers did not over-explain it.

in the hut he asked her again... and he just accepted her halting words for what they were and showed her how much he really meant the top note of those words... that he loved her. so lovely.
