OS : Falling in Love...
The weather was beautiful. The cold wind blew her hair, a few strands tickling her soft cheeks in the process. She checked her watch and realized that she wasn't too late for her accountancy tuition. She should have just listened to her mother and taken her bicycle, but then she didn't want to get tired by pumping in air in the flat tyre. But considering the situation now, that would've been less tiring, she mused.
That was least of her problems though. She wondered if her tuition teacher would be there today, as it was the day off. Plus she was going uninformed, as the phone hadn't connected to her teacher. Tomorrow was an important test and she had a lot of doubts regarding the subject, which needed to be cleared today itself.
Finally reaching her destination, she knocked on the door, which was opened by the teachers wife, who smiled warmly at her before letting her in.
"Aaj kaise aana hua Khushi bitiya? Payal toh bahar hai..." her bestie's mother and sir's wife asked, as she gulped down a glass of water.
"Woh aunty, I have doubts in accountancy, whose test is tomorrow. So I came to clear those," she replied hoping an answer in affirmative.
"Arre bitiya, your sir just left for another city, will be returning by night only and even payal isn't at home now,so that you both could've discussed..."
Khushi's face fell at that answer. She was a vibrant 17 year old, a brilliant student and an obedient daughter anyone would want. She was one of those teenagers who spent most of their time with BOOKS, rather than hanging out with friends. This was the reason that Payal was her only friend, that too because Payal had approached her while in tuition. Mainly because she never even bothered to look around while studying. Though her parents had wanted her to take up science, her interest lay in accountancy and she had gone ahead with choosing it as her career option. But since she was in junior college, her parents had asked her to join tuition classes as they didn't want her performance to go down. She had obliged reluctantly but later the results did prove to be good. And today when she needed her sir's help, he wasn't there, which surely made her sad.
"Oh beta, my son is also studying the same subject as you are. He is at home now. If you want, he'll help you out" Payal's mother suggested and having no other option, Khushi nodded before following her in.
She found herself standing in a messy room, with pictures of football players displayed all over the wall. Her eyes fell on one particular picture of a handsome boy. He seemed familiar, but where had she seen him?
"Sorry for this messy room...uh-I didn't know I had a visitor. Mom just told me you have some questions. Please have a seat, here" Khushi turned around to follow but stood grounded, when she saw him. He was the same person from picture she'd just seen. So he is Payal's twin BROTHER... she wondered! She remembered now that she had seen him once in the classes itself, when she had initially joined. Why did I not notice his handsome features earlier? Because you were too busy to concentrate on your STUDIES, mocked her brain.
"Now tell me, in which topic do you have doubt" he asked as he watched her take out Accountancy - T.S. Grewal and a notebook with a pen.
"Forfeiture of shares ...I always get stuck at calculating capital reserve when there is discount" she whined her problem and opened her BOOK, showing him the marked questions.
As he read the questions carefully, she took her time to admire him. Drop-dead handsome was the first thought that crossed her MIND as she watched him closely. He should've take up modeling as his career option. What is he doing---studying accounts? Such a waste of a, gorgeous face and a sculpted body. A faint blush had started to appear on her cheeks and she looked away to stop her thoughts.
"Ahem...Khushi.." he called her out, remembering her name. "This is very easy question," saying that, he solved it for her explaining it step by step and when he was sure she understood, gave her a few MORE sums to solve, to test her knowledge.
"Ah, you are a good learner. You understood pretty quickly. Well done," he added praising her, making her smile all the more.
Next day, Khushi took extra care of what she was wearing. Cream colored kurti-top teamed up with maroon leggings; she looked very pretty for tuition. As she reached her classes, her eyes immediately wandered towards Arnav, who was sitting in another corner of the room with his back facing her, engrossed in a conversation with his friend. Thinking of how to properly look at him, she got up and went to kitchen using "thirst" as an excuse. As she came back to her place, she looked at Arnav a smile, immediately appearing, but soon looked away when she saw him tuning towards her.
This went on for next few months. She used to dress up prettily, making her sister suspicious if she was going for a tuition or date, stare at Arnav when he was looking away and would immediately look away when he turned in her direction.
He looked at his watch and then at the door, wondering why was she late today. He had knowingly changed his place after seeing someone else occupying her regular place. He had started looking forward to this routine of theirs since past 2 months now. If she THOUGHT that Arnav didn't notice anything, she was very wrong. He'd noticed her since the first day she'd joined this tuition. Not because she was beautiful... okay that was the first reason, but also because she was a brilliant student. He was very curious to know more about her, and once luckily, when she had sat beside him in the classes, she hadn't spared even a single glance at him. He had taken the opportunity to know her name by peeping into her copy, while she had gone to sir to clear some doubts. It had come as a pleasant surprise to him, when one fine day, she had a doubt in questions and his father wasn't home. He had been overjoyed when his mother had chosen him for her rescue. From the next day itself, he had often seen her glancing in his direction. This had become a routine for him, to watch her stare at him and smile secretly, which for some reason made him smile too. He just hoped that she was ok.
Today Khushi was extremely late. All thanks to her mother, who wanted her to FINISH her breakfast before leaving the house. I'll miss my favorite place where I am able to get a glimpse of him, without any hindrance, she thought worriedly and rushed to the classes. As soon as she entered, she realized someone else had already taken her place. Sighing in resignation, she moved to another place from where Arnav wasn't visible at all.
Arnav had seen her walk in twenty minutes later than usual and sitting on the second last row --- which he pretty much knew she hated. He felt as if it was his good luck that he'd chosen the right place, exactly behind her. He wondered if she would be able to spot him today.
Minutes seemed liked hours to Khushi and she couldn't wait for the classes to end. Plus, she was feeling slightly different today. She felt as if she was being watched. As she turned her head to look around, and caught Arnav smiling a bit, slightly flustered though not looking at her. Arnav had changed his place... but why? She remembered once Payal had told her that he loved sitting in the corner as it gave him peace to concentrate in STUDIES. When the realization dawned on her, she couldn't help but look at him with a beautiful blush rising up her cheeks. Accidentally, he too looked up at her at the exact moment and grinned broadly. Their eyes clashed, and a conversation transpired between the two. She wondered, if this was"the moment" which people romantically described as "Falling in Love."
