I have a doubt?

Why can't Dev ask directly Durga to handover Nitya's dairy? Why try to steal it?

For a simple reason that he cannot trust Durga. Durga for Dev is exactly what Dev is for Durga.

In either way , Durga trying to help Payal, and if Dev thinks , Durga is behind the down fall of Gangoly and Mathur, she is trying to solve the Payal's rape case. So she can be alley of Dev solving Nitya n Payal mystery. Dev has to open up his feeling for Payal and Nitya in front of Durga. If she denies then there is a problem. Before her deniel, he is trying all this.

Jokes apart. I think Dev do not trust Durga, as for him she's a mystery which needs to be solved if he wants to know about Nitya & Payal. He knows that Durga is not going to hand him Nitya's diary as (in Dev's POV) Dev is a stranger and how can she trust him enough and hands him a thing which relates to a rape case?
