"Woh...woh kuch nahi bas aise hi...books...you know how I love reading," she fumbled with her words and Rey knew for sure that she was lying.
"Taani tum jhoot nahi bol sakti issliye hamesha kehta hoon ke mat bola karo,"he stated firmly while she stared into his eyes.
Taani beta...ab toh tu gayi. Kisi aur ke samne jhoot bol sakti hai par Rey ke samne nahi...ugh...kyun Krishnaji...aap mere saath hi yeh sab kyun karte hai?
"Taani I don't know how I didn't notice before but you always had a biology or chemistry book in your hand at St. Louis as well. I never paid attention because you were a bookworm and you always had books around you. But, today you were up the whole night reading a book on Cardiac Surgery. Poori raat koi insan aisi book tab padh ta hai jab usse interest ho."
She sighed and filled her lungs with air hoping she wouldn't collapse with anxiety.
"Taani,"Rey grabbed her hand and made her sit down on a bench noticing her skin go white, "Please trust me."
Should I trust him? Taani battled with herself and listed all the pros and cons of telling Rey the truth. She finally decided that Ek na ek din sach samne aane hi wala hai...since I have got the chance I should tell him.
"You're right Rey, I should trust you. I don't want to hide anything when we have just decided on a new beginning. I don't know how to say this..."
He cupped her cheek as he kneeled down in front of her, "Just say it...anything you want...doesn't matter what it is."
"Rey I never wanted to get a degree in business. I wanted to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. I was going to apply to St.Louis for BSc but I couldn't because bhai decided he would become a dancer and abruptly left from home telling Tauji that he won't take over the company. Tauji was worried and also suffered a heart attack which bhai is unaware of to this date. Seeing him so broken and worried about his legacy and heir, I promised him that I would take over after him. I applied for BCom at St.Louis and forturnately got in. As I was studying, I also continued to work in the Mumbai branch so I could learn every little thing. However, in all this I found no time. Also, there was NDC that took up so much of unnecessary time. I couldn't handle the pressure and the rudeness I received despite my hardwork, and that made me bitter. I didn't spend much time with you and I wasn't the cheerful girl that people first saw me as. This was also one of the reasons why you decided to break up with me. I decided one day that I had had enough and would go to Delhi and complete my MBA. I am going to become the CEO of the company soon but no one can know until Tauji decides to officially make that announcement."
Taani finished but softly added, "I haven't told any of this to bhai because if he had found out he would have felt guilty and would never look me in the eye properly."
Rey, who had been listening intently, had both his cheeks soaked in tears. He understood everything now, the business talk he had evesdropped into and why Taani was involved with office work. He was feeling sad for Taani but more so guilty that he wasn't part of her painful journey. If anything he possibly added more pain.
"Oh Rey...please stop crying,"Taani hushed as she wiped his eyes with her hands.
"I am so sorry. I didn't know you were suffering through so much."
His breaking voice filled the air and Taani couldn't do anything but to hug him, "But that's the thing Rey. You DIDN'T KNOW. I chose not to tell you, you have nothing to be sorry about."
He continued hugging her, his tears drying out.
"Rey, if you're feeling so bad then you can promise me now that you will support me in this process. I will need a strong shoulder to lean on especially when bhai finds out the truth."
Rey wiped his tears and nodded, "I promise I will support you through this," he then whispered, "and through eternity."
"Accha chaliye...bohot raat hogayi hai...ghar pe sab soch rahe honge ke hum itni der kya kar rahe the," Taani helped him up and both began walking towards the car.
Once in the car Taani joked, "Waise Rey...aap na bilkul ladkiyon ki tarah hai...baat baat pe apko rona ajata hai."
Taani chuckled while Rey rolled his eyes but still adorned a small smile on his face.
"Kya karein princess, sangat ka asar hai," taking a dig at her. Taani just stuck her tongue out.
(Sangat ka asar - means that the people you stay with influence you. Rey is taking a dig at her since Taani is the emotional one and he is implying that staying with her has made him emotional.)
Sunday was a busy day with everyone preparing for SwaRon's engagement. The engagement would take place a week before the wedding and in between close friends and family only. Sharon's parents were going to come on the morning of the engagement and stay until the wedding. While everyone was doing work, Rey had been busy himself - busy shamelessly flirting with Taani.
It was evening and Taani and Rey had entered a competiton on pick-up lines after Rey had used some utterly cheesy ones on her.
"If you're feeling down, I can feel you up,"Rey said at his turn.
"Yuck Rey. That one was just creepy."
Taani was sitting in the backyard with a bucket full of roses, threads and needles. She was carefully making garlands for decoration.
Rey who was sitting beside her gently strolled his hand up her right arm, he felt her body shiver under his touch.
His face came dangerously close to hers, "But that's the truth sweetheart."
She gulped down saliva in shock and decided to get back at him for purposely messing with her brain and heart. Taani put on her confident face and turned to him with the most seductive expressions. Rey knew he was a gone the moment she looked him in the face and put her hands on his thigh.
"Well then let's have sex baby,"she hoarsely whispered an inch away from his mouth.
Rey's eyes popped out of his sockets not believing what Taani just said and began fumbling in nervousness, "Taani...woh...I...I was...just...woh...I was just joking...I...mean...I...I."
He stopped hearing Taani bawl her body in laughter, "Aahaha...oh my god Rey. Ahaha...you're sooo cute!" She continued tearing up as Rey finally caught on to her joke.
"Taani! That was not funny...you half-way scared me to death,"he said huffing in slight anger.
"Ahaha...but...I couldn't help myself,"her laughter reduced but she still continued to giggle.
But she was unaware that she was dealing with The Reyansh Singhania. He grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer to him, "though if you wish...we can always take the jokes to my bed."
Taani stopped laughing at once and scolded herself for mentioning sex.Ab bhuktoh...Taani how can you forget that this is Mr. Besharam that you are dealing with.
"Rey...I was...I was only joking...mein,"she tried saying in order to convince him to drop the idea.
He pulled her closer and their lips were slightly touching, "Haan toh mein kab mana kar raha hoon. Par Princess, idea bura nahi tha. How about we actually try it out."
Taani was feeling dizzy with the proximity. Everytime Rey said a word his lips would brush with hers and she was unable to control her excited hormones. As Rey inched even closer she closed her eyes and felt his full lips capture her soft ones. But as soon as his lips had taken hers, they had parted just as quickly.
Taani opened her eyes feeling the cold air engulfing her once again. "Don't tempt me again sweetheart because I don't know if I will stay in control next time," saying this he left with a smile on his face.
"What just happened? Taani you are going to have a psychological disorder if you keep spending so much time with this guy," she muttered to herself.
Monday was truly a different day for everyone. Taani had joined the gang into the rehearsal hall to see how the sessions are going so far. She was surprised when the gang apologized to the students for their behaviour and put forth ideas.
"Since some of you are extremely talented, we will have a few minutes at the end of each class showcasing one person's dancing. Also, if you guys have any suggestions for choreography, you can come up and tell us before class," Rey announced and the students were pleased with the new attitude of the team.
The students cooperated this time around and the gang was having fun teaching them. There were times when a student didn't get the steps but Taani was happy to see how patiently each member was explaining steps to them. Her eyes though were stuck on Rey. He was standing in the corner helping a girl with a learning difficult. He was repeating each step at least five times so she understood it and cracked jokes in between to keep her comfortable.
She had finally gotten the Rey she fell in love with back.
"Good evening Hitler! Kya baat hai...aaj thoda zyaada hi smile kar rahi ho?" Tacker asked as he took a seat in the meeting room.
"Aisa kuch nahi hai," she objected though she was aware of exactly why she was smiling today.
"Suuureee,"Purvi said sarcastically while Shilpa commented, "Koi boyfriend toh nahi dhoond liya?"
She blushed a little at the teasing but waved their comments off, "Oh please aisa kuch nahi hai. And by the way...boyfriends ki baat ho rahi hai toh tumhare boyfriends kahan hai?"
"Phirse late,"Wahi whispered while reading through a file.
"Isse kya hogaya?" Shilpa asked looking at Wahi's serious face.
Raman who had just entered answered her query, "Woh kya hai na...jabse maar khake aaiya hai tabse sudhar gaya hai."
Everyone giggled a little remembering the incident and while Wahi glared at all of them.
"Sorry guys...traffic bohot tha,"Armaan apologized as he walked in with Arjun.
"Traffic? Abhi? Raman bhai meine toh koi traffic nahi dekha aate waqt,"Mihir commented innocently which got him death glares from Armaan and Arjun.
"Accha...sab aagaye hai toh shuru karein?" Taani asked and they started their meeting.
They allotted jobs for each person for the opening of the hospitals and discussed further details. When they ended Raman told Taani, "Next week tumhare Tauji wapas aa rahe hai Swayam aur Sharon ki engagement ke liye."
"That's good news bhai,"Taani said excited to see her Tauji back.
Raman on the contrary was worried, "Woh tumhare CEO banne ki baat Swayam ki engagement mein announce karne wale hai."
"WHAT?!"
"We need to disclose it since you are going to be graduating in two weeks time. You're going to have your degree then too," Raman explained.
"That means Taani will have to tell everything to Swayam before the engagement,"Armaan commented.
"Yes. And I'm worried of that only," Raman said.
Taani though was a bit relieved, "Actually I'm not too worried. I have Rey by my side this time."
Purvi was grinning, "Accha toh madam ka mood issliye itna accha hai aaj."
"Ugh...no! I meant ke Rey bhai ke best friend hai so it will be easier to explain to bhai,"Taani said still trying not to disclose anything about her and Rey.
"Oh come on Taani...we know kuch toh hai tum dono ke beech," Wahi piped in.
"Tumhe phir se maar khana hai?" Taani threatened.
"Guys! Shut up...jao sab jaake kaam karo," Raman yelled and quickly the group scattered off but still discussing about TaaRey.
Once they left Raman asked Taani with a smirk, "Toh...chakar kya hai tum dono ke beech?"
Taani was exasperated, "BHAI! Aap bhi!"
