I'm loving the Bhallas right now. I mean, I always did but in the beginning they seemed so crass and rude and just OUT THERE (my family in real life is much more like Ishita's). And then seeing Romi's idiocy, Raman's anger, and Simmi/Toshiji's penchant for fighting and giving gaaliyas and assuming the worse of Ishita/Iyers gave me a headache. Even though I knew they weren't "evil" or bad, they were still annoying.
I'm glad that CVs, for most part, have maintained the Bhallas as nice and not evil in-laws with the exception of the doting sasurji. I loved Romi's characterization,
as I stated in this post. I even had so much hope for Simmi because she was like "Ishita Bhabhi is the best!" when Ishu helped her and Param out and even after the Param track, she still felt something to scold Param for joining forces with Ashok and then she also (for a while) ignored Shagun.
The one person I was really waiting for to see how she'd turn out was Toshiji. Toshi was never mean or cruel; she just had a vastly different personality than the sober Iyers, which was sometimes difficult for them to comprehend. Of course, pre-marriage she was upset with Ishita, which is understandable seeing that she thought Ishita was using Ruhi to get married to Raman/etc etc.
But during the marriage and post, she hasn't been the stereotypical Ekta evil saas. Sure, there were some hiccups along the way but I don't think she acted brash to Ishita because she hated her, but more like she wanted to protect her children first. With Simmi, she was watching her daughter's marriage unravel because of her new bahu. With Raman, she didn't want Ishita to gang up on him esp with Mr Bhalla - and especially after Mr Bhalla finally started speaking to and accepting Raman. She of course felt some natural jealousy with Ruhi, seeing as that she was the main one who took care of Ruhi all these years and in a way was feeling replaced and useless (but smart Ishu, she heeded the signals and took care of that right away!).
With Romi's second mistake because of Amma's accident and Mihika's MMS, we could see visible changes in Toshi in terms of standing up for her children blindly. While she didn't want Romi to be punished extremely, she knew and outwardly acknowledged his misdeeds, which for typical desi moms, is hard esp with their sons. I was actually proud of her when she told Simmi off saying, "what if that was Rinky" and also "If you had seen Mrs Iyer's condition, you would be just as stricken as me."
And I'm so excited seeing the precap, because even with all her drama and nautanki, Toshiji is a mother at heart and like all mothers, seeing any child in pain gives her pain, too. I'm glad the CVs put in that scene and I can't wait to see it tomorrow, because after Param/Romi/etc etc drama, its nice to see that the bahu and the saas of the family - the two main pillars of any family - are supportive of one another.
That's the silver lining I was looking for amongst all these grey clouds.
