Veera clenched the wooden fence tight,her fingers going white as she did so,as her eyes were locked on Baldev.

He was now near the horse.

Veera's heart skipped a beat as the horse neighed loudly as it jumped again with its forelegs in the air..

She sighed out in relief as Baldev moved away in time..

But then he tried to hold its rein again,when the horse again jumped up..

Veera wanted to scream out and call him back..She wanted to forget all the stupid tasks and get going home no matter what.

Her heart was in her throat every time she tried to grab the rein and was nearly hit by the horse's hooves..

Veera was deciding to barge in and bring him out from the horse's proximity,when he finally managed to grab the horse's rein..

Veera saw that the moment he did so he turned to look at her with a boyish victorious smile that melted Veera's heart then and there..

She was about to grin back when her eyes widened in terror and she opened her lips to shout out a warning..

"BALDEVA!!!"She screamed out just when he was thrown to the hard ground by the horse..

Veera was again getting ready to run to him,when he was back on his feet and indicated her to keep distance with his hands..

Veera was in tenterhooks if to listen or run to him,when she watched him being thrown again..

Her vision got blurred as tears came in her eyes,at seeing him in so much pain for her sake.She had pushed Saahil off hew way and was jusp opening the fence door when she saw Baldev getting on the horseback..

Her world nearly tilted on its axis,as she saw the horse trying to throw him off its back..

Her heart in her throat and tears dripping down her cheeks she ran towards him..

Uncaring,what was going to happen or not even bothering to think how she could help him..

The horse neighed some more and before Veera could cross halfway across the yard,Baldev was off and out of the stable as the horse jumped the fence,and was off in a fast gallop.

Veera saw with terrorized eyes as Baldev was almost falling off the horse's back,before he and the horse faded from her view..

Veera could not hink any further as hysterically he ran to the stable..

Saahil ran after her trying to stop her,but Veera again shoved him away,and before long she was on an unsaddled white horse,and was off after Baldev..

Veera realized her stupidity as the horse she was riding galloped fast,and she was slipping off its back due to the lack of saddle..

And just when they were crossing a road,she fell off the horse onto the center of the road.

Her face paled when she heard a car honk and as she turned as she noticed the car talking a turn and approaching her at a fast pace..

Veera closed her eyes ready for the impact,her last image as she closed her eyes was of the intense looking Baldev looking at her with tenderness in his eyes..

Suddenly Veera felt herself flying in mid-air..

She had still her eyes closed so did not know what had happened..Did death feel like this..?!did one not feel the pain when hit by a car..?

Suddenly a voice reached her ears..That was when she felt sure she must be in heaven.

"Veera tu thik to hai na..?!

[Veera are you alright..?!]"Oh that husky sensual voice..

"VEERA!!!Ki hogayi tainu?!Mere taraf vekh?!

[VEERA!!!What happened to you?!Look at me?!]"

This time finally she dragged her eyes open and stared into dark brown eyes,that held all the tenderness in the world,that made her heart squeeze painfully..

Wait a minute!Her heart just squeezed and that meant she was alive..!But why were they flying..?!

That is when Veera finally realized he was carrying her sideways in front of him on the horse back as it galloped away..

She looked down and got scared of falling,and the next instant she had wrapped her hands round his body..She had placed her hand round his back under his arms holding the reins,while she hid her face at the opening of his shirt..

A warmth engulfed her immediately as he moved one hand to hold her close to him as they rode on..

Slowly she moved her head up and stared at him..

Her breathing nearly stopped as she saw his eyes were gleaming with something strange and dangerous as he looked down at her..

And Veera unmindfully clung to him tighter..Loving the way the warmth from his body was seeping into hers..

She loved the way he smelled too..A faint musky mixture of his cologne and something that smelled like him..She sighed and kept staring into those dark mesmerizing pools..

The steady rhythm and movement of the horse galloping under them seemed to be lost to them,as they were getting lost in each other's eyes..

They had reached the stable again,and as Baldev helped Veera down from the horse back,she suddenly felt shy..

As her body brushed down his,her heart beat fastened,and her cheeks flushed as she looked up at him..

She saw a sudden cloud of pain cross his features and then he had hidden it in the next instant..

That was when Veera noticed the cut across his forehead..

She also noticed after tying the horse he was wincing a bit as he walked..

Anger took over her,and to add more fuel to it, she saw Mr. Neil himself strutting in..

"Phir se tum dono ek saath?Maine kaha tha na-..

[Again you two are together?I told you didn't I-..]"

He was interrupted in midsentence by Veera's outraged voice..

"Aap ne ye kya mazaak samajh rakhkha hai ki?!Aap ne Baldev ko aisa khatarnaak task kaise diya?!Agar aaj usse kuch ho jata to..?!Mainu diya tab taak thik tha par usse-..

[Do you think this is all a joke..?!How could you give such a dangerous task to Baldev?!What if something had happened to him today..?!You gave me,till that it was okay,but to him-..]"She broke off in a choked whisper.

Baldev who was trying to overcome from the shock of her reaction,tried to stop her..

"Veera.."

"Kya Veera,Baldeva?!Agar aaj tujhe kuch ho jata to..?!

[What Veera,Baldeva?!What if something had happened to you today..?!]"

Baldev could not respond but stare into her watery eyes..A heavy feeling growing within his heart all of a sudden..

Nihal's voice broke their stare and made them face him.

"Agar saapney dekhne ki himmat rakhte ho to uski kimaat to thori bauhot chukana hi parta hai..Kaal task ke liye ready rehna agar yaha rehna hai to..Warna bata dena tum dono ki tickets book kar denge..

[If you can dare t dream then you should also pay its price..Stay ready for tomorrow's task,if you want to stay here..Otherwise let me know we will get your tickets booked..]"With these words he left while Saahil followed him too..

Veera and Baldev had reached the cottage when Veera asked him to sit on the bed..

Baldev who was still in a dazed state from her open outburst supporting him,sat down confused..

She was back soon with a first aid kit..

And before Baldev could protest he had started cleaning his wound with antiseptic..As he winced in pain,Veera bit her lip and looked at him with tenderness in her eyes..

"Vadda dard ho raha hai..?Thoda sabar kar..Abhi patti kar deti hu..

[It's hurting a lot..?Be a little patient..I am putting the band aid on now..]"Her soft words worked like magic on him.

But more than that Baldev was lost in her face,as she tended to her wounds..She was sitting so close to him,her face inches from his..

He felt his heart rate increasing as her fingers softly touched his forehead..She was gently,cleaning her wound and when he winced slightly again,she looked into his eyes with something that looked like pain,and gently blew at his wound..

And Baldev felt he was in heaven already..

He inhaled a shattered breath,as she put on the band aid,and then gently touched the area around the wound,and when she looked into his eyes again,his breathing stopped,as he felt he clearly saw her eyes glittering with unshed tears..

In the golden glow from the lamp light,her face looked ethereal..And Baldev felt his heart squeeze painfully again,as he felt her warm breath against his face..

She suddenly placed her one hand on his shoulder..

"Meri wajai se tainu vadda takleef ho raha hai Baldeva hai na?

[Because of me you are getting troubled so much right Baldeva?]"She said softly,and Baldev for a few seconds did not know how to react to that..

She squeezed softly at his shoulder,and Baldev winced in pain again but quickly tried to hide it..

But of course he was too late in doing so..

She was alert once again,and widened her eyes in shock..

"Kya tainu yaha pe bhi chot mila hai?!

[Have you hurt yourself here too?!]"

Baldev shook his head in denial but she was not in the listening mood..

"Mainu vekhna hai..Ye shirt uttar!

[I have to see..Open this shirt!]"Her demand made his jaw drop in shock..

"Veera!Ye tu ki-..?

[Veera!What are you-..?]"

"Main tera dost hu na..?!To jo kehti hun chupchap sun!Uttar ye shirt!Mainu vekhna hai ki-..

[I am your friend right..?!So quietly do whatever I ask you to!Open this shirt!I have to see what-..]" She faltered in saying the last part of her sentence as Baldev had suddenly unbuttoning his shirt at a slow steady pace,looking at her with glittering eyes all the while..

The word friend had rubbed him off the wrong way yet again..So if it was normal for her,it would be normal to him too,Baldev thought angrily as he started unbuttoning his shirt.

A flush spread through her cheeks,as she tried to look normal,but something knotted up deep in her stomach.

She tried to pretend it was quite a normal thing she had asked him to do,that-..

She inhaled a sharp breath,as the last button parted.She gulped down a knot of tension as he slowly started tugging the shirt out of his waistband and still with his dark eyes locked with hers he had removed his shirt off his body along with the court..

Veera bit on her bottom lip worriedly,afraid to look down further than his face,now that he had complied and got rid of his shirt..

Suddenly the temperature in the room seemed to have raised by notches..

As he quirked one eyebrow challengingly at her,she inhaled a shaky breath , straightened her shoulders and pasted a mock bright smile as if she was not affected by it at all..

Slowly she reached for the first aid box again,and moved towards his back..But not before she had peeped a look at his bare chest..Her heart skipped a beat and her pulse started throbbing,as she took in the naked gleaming male chest with slight hair on the center..

She quickly looked away,as a blush spread throughout her face..

With her body shivering like anything for no reason he sat behind him on the bed..

Instantly her reaction was forgotten as he saw a number of cuts and bruises along his back and shoulders..

A gasp escaped her lips..What had he gone through and just because of her..!

"Dev!Ye kaisa haalat bana rakhkha tune aapna?!

[Dev!What have you done to yourself?!]"She exclaimed out in a pained voice..

And soon she was busy cleaning and tending to his wounds..

Baldev felt his muscles clench in tension with her every touch..Every time she muttered some words of apology and blew at his wound,his blood stirred hotly..

He closed his eyes dragging in a long breath..He was not suffering from the pain at that moment..He was suffering more from the feelings she was making him feel and the reactions of his rotten body to her..

He wanted to groan out loud in frustration at that moment,or scream at her that why he was just a FRIEND to her..?!

He wanted to kiss her senseless or hug her tight,or do anything other than trying to sit in this rigid way,as if her touching his hot naked skin,injured or not did not matter to him..!

He tried to ignore the way his muscles and sinews clenched tight,at her every touch..He tried to fight all the strange things only she made him feel,but in vain..

Finally when she was done and he was wearing his shirt again,he looked at her fumbling with something by the window and he slowly walked upto her..

"Waise Veera..Aaj tune mere taraf lekar Neil sir se chillayi kiu..?

[Anyways Veera..Why did you scream at Neil sir today taking my side..?]"He said softly,as he stood behind her,blocking her escape..

Veera whirled round startled,and nearly fell,as she held onto his shoulder for support..

She tried to put some distance between them in vain,and finally not being able to do so,she looked up into his eyes..Her eyes were wide and confused..

"Maine aise hi..

[For no reason..]"She mumbled in a whisper..

Baldev took another step towards her,his hot breath almost falling on her face,his dark eyes glittering in the mute light of the room.

"Agar mainu kuch ho jata to..?Tainu ki farak parda Veera..?

[If something happened to me then..?What would it matter to you..?]"He asked softly..

Veera inhaled a sharp breath,but did not answer his question..

Baldev looked at her for some more time,lost in her eyes,as she stared up at him with all sorts of emotions in her eyes..
Time stood still for some time,as they stared into each other's eyes..

"Veera.."He said softly,as he moved his lips closer to hers..His warm breath falling on her lips..He had moved so close that if she moved the slightest bit their lips would meet..

He took in a shaky breath as he studied her creamy complexion, wide eyes,,cute nose and soft full lips..His heart raced some more..

And then as suddenly as he had come close,he moved back..

He clenched his hand into tight fist,and asked her to get ready for dinner..As he walked out through the front door of the cottage..Out in the cool night air,as he stood leaning against the closed front door..

Baldev knew he had to fight his feelings for long..Maybe forever..But he had to..He could not break this bridge of friendship they had formed within them..

Because if it broke he would lose all means of getting close to her..And he did not want that..He could not survive if something like that happened..Being near her in any way was his soul means of survival now..And if for that he had to fight his inner demons he would do just that..

He took a deep breath,and got ready to put on another friendly mask..Baldev Singh had to go on fighting The Inner Battle,and he would..For Veera..
