A realistic character portrayal

I am impressed with the way Phalguni's character is being shaped. She stands as an example of someone who is realistic in her approach, someone who has learnt from life's lessons not to keep searching for the eternal feeling of love and passion in the midst of more pressing things in life like fore example, staying alive..

While Phalguni's emotional advice to the female lead is not going to make any difference, (one gets to see Ekta's favorite idealisms in her lead.. the girl who talks of ideal love without any practical thought, who says she loves books more than makeup but yet so worries about some distorted Kaajal and has to be assured it is alright..), it is notable to see the mother shown with so much anguish and strength at the same time.

Look at the lesson life has taught Phalguni. She was left bereft of everything, a child in hand and had to struggle to keep herself and the child alive. She then gets married to a big time businessman and like she says, he can have the luxury to love her with everything because the fact is that he has the luxury to do it.

Phalguni on the other hand is still taunted by her MIL. Her only solace is that her husband was enamoured by her and was even willing to make her child his own if she would marry him.

If one argues that Phalguni is just bitter and has forgotten love, then I would like to point out that Phalguni does love. She loves her daughter and hence protects her. One has to see the reality of life. Then concepts of love and happiness may sound right and idealistic but it is not that true.

Even Gauri for all the sad music to make her a victim is not as much as a victim as the serial portrays her to be. If she really did love the guy and was ready to run away, she should have had the guts to do it before her family, especially her mama went to the trouble of finding her a suitor, spending perhaps lakhs on her wedding and almost inviting the entire city for it.

The last minute effort to elope was just cowardice at its best. While Baa's character may reek of cruelty, if one considers her side of the story, one can see the reason for her anger. Her son goes out of his way to arrange the marriage for his niece. The girl then elopes the day before marriage leaving the entire family red faced.

While the show shows Baa to be ruthless and 'anti-love', I wonder how many would agree to what Gauri and Ishaani did if they were in Baa's place. And yeah, her way of showing her anger is pretty OTT. But making Gauri a victim to this level is unreal.

I guess from where I stand, Baa and Phalguni are two women who have been brought up by the realities of life. They have understood the life beneath all the sweet talk of love, sacrifice for love, victim hood and are stronger for it.

If they sound brutal, its because life is brutal that way. When one does not have any responsibilities, it is easy to lose oneself in the concept of being 'in-love'.. Unfortunately when responsibilities knock on the door, the sheen of the ideal prince charming and the princess fade away. We are afterall humans with faults.

Phalguni is fast becoming my favorite character. Yeah, she can probably be more grateful to the husband who seems to love her so much but then one cannot completely fault her. She is vulnerable in this world and to her credit, she knows and understands it.

While the leads live in dreams, Phalguni and Baa are more down to earth for me and I like them that way.

well i agree with u at many points
specially on falguni
u said exactly what i feel
falguni is fabulous character
a strong lady who didn't gave up but moved on...maybe she seems not so good but she isn't bad..its just situations...but i really want her in future to respond to harshad's love...
but somewhere i disagree on these:

Even Gauri for all the sad music to make her a victim is not as much as a victim as the serial portrays her to be. If she really did love the guy and was ready to run away, she should have had the guts to do it before her family, especially her mama went to the trouble of finding her a suitor, spending perhaps lakhs on her wedding and almost inviting the entire city for it.

it is revealed that she didn't had that courage to protest her family...its so natural...running away is not an easy decision afterall...and when she ran, it wasn't her plan...ishaani planned out that with pranav...ishaani encouraged gauri which resulted in what happened...and she is really a victim i believe...she is born in a house where the decision maker decides on the basis of economic condition...she have to loose her love...actually sacrifice her love...and now she also lost her family with baa advising her not to be back...poor girl suffered a lot...

The last minute effort to elope was just cowardice at its best. While Baa's character may reek of cruelty, if one considers her side of the story, one can see the reason for her anger. Her son goes out of his way to arrange the marriage for his niece. The girl then elopes the day before marriage leaving the entire family red faced.

though m also not in the favor of what she did but calling it cowardice is where i disagree...i would rather call it her helplessness...and i am not at all satisfied with baa...she is a narrow minded lady deciding person on money basis...if the girl would not have eloped and told baa about her love then too she would had to suffer this...eventually ranveer became baa's anger target but if revealed earlier, it would have been gauri...

While the show shows Baa to be ruthless and 'anti-love', I wonder how many would agree to what Gauri and Ishaani did if they were in Baa's place. And yeah, her way of showing her anger is pretty OTT. But making Gauri a victim to this level is unreal

i disagree with baa's point here...as i said earlier she is a person who judge on financial basis...this is very evident with her behavior to ranveer...ranveer is doing lot for their family, more than what a servant do, but still referred to as dog by her...she is really rude and needs to change herself for peace...

Dear RA, thank you for putting in your views. I agree that there are a lot of different opinions that exist and I agree to disagree😃

Let me first explain about Gauri. Yes, she is a coward. Did Gauri not know what her Baa would do if she told her about her love or was it only on the day before her marriage that she decide that her Baa was this narrow minded?
Gauri knew, probably right from the time she fell in love that it was forbidden and was bound to face issues and probably fail. But the only excuse for her behaviour is that she was 'in-live'

Now when her marriage gets arranged, which of course we are not shown, one can safely assume that she went silently along with it, fearing her family's anger. She had the guts to confess in Ishaani but not to her own mother or her loving uncle who unlike Baa is shown pretty soft and very loving.. Of course not!! What does Gauri do instead?

She chooses the night before her marriage to run away, when her family has called all guest home and is celebrating with happiness. Of course there couldn't be a worse time😲😡

If Gauri was really not a coward, she would have done what she did in the beginning, saving all some heartache but then who thinks that way when one has 'love' to justify ones actions.. So yeah.. I do not have any empathy towards Gauri.

If one can forget the love of your mother, uncle who was your father and run away without a care about what they would be facing, then that love is not to be idealised. Just my PoV

Coming to Baa..

Of course this woman is narrow minded and perhaps cruel. She is atrocious in her principles and the way she taunts, teases and sneers at others. That is why I love Sarita Joshi's portrayal and the character. It makes viewing this story interesting for me.
Baa's meanness, her pride in her son and her scant respect for other humans, especially those under her will make her a character worthy of our dislike. It will also make viewing the daily dose of self sacrificing more bearable..

That is why I like Baa. She is the sneering, old age lady with a cold heart and a even nastier mouth. She expects loyalty from all but does not give the same because she is the 'maalkin'. A good antagonist of course!! What is a good story without a better antagonist😉😛

u can feel the pain of falguni ,life made her a strong women...there was a time when she believed in love and now she is living her life with a husband with whom she is not in love with.obviously she had gone through a lot in her life to turn out like this.May be for her ishaani is just like her younger version and she wants to save her daughter from the same pain which she still has in her life.u can feel her pain when she was talking to her daughter, she hasn't healed yet.😔

I love your post and agree with every single line!
I usually avoid Ekta's shows like the plague😆 but yesterday I came across Phalguni's scene with her daughter while flipping channels, and it gripped me. Initially because I was a huge Kutumb fan once and loved Hiten and Gauri's jodi :) But it was her character and acting that kept me from changing the channel for the next few minutes. It was such a refreshing change to see a mother who is so tough and practical, and wants to instill that same attitude in her daughter instead of spouting the usual nonsensical fluff about "jeevan saathis" and "janam janam ka bandhan" and "the importance of mangalsutra and sindoor"🥱. I was very impressed with the portrayal of Baa too after having seen way too many sugary sweet grandmas in other shows. Baa is a very real character and Sarita Joshi's acting makes her seem all the more vicious.

I don't intend to follow the show but I wish both these fabulous actresses all the very best :)

Thank you! Yes. Phalguni is a real character. I am glad EK has got some character that is different from all her serials!

I do not think anybody will be able to completely heal from what Phalguni has gone through. To go through a betrayal and then the shame on not just being left alone but the shame of having made the worse decision in your life, with a young child to care for.. To come back from that.. Well, Phalguni made it👏

What would have made it better for me was if Phalguni had become independent on her own and not opted to marry Harshad to better herself but then if she had, there would be no story now😉

I think Phalguni sees in Ishani, her younger self which now to her was foolish. She is not wrong. Ishaani is not just naive but very stupid at times. Phalguni is afraid for her and I can understand her fears. Every mother has those. They try to steer their children away from the mistakes they made.. If children would only listen!

Hey, High five😃

I am not sure I would be a regular to this soap either. It is too much Ekta for me to actually want to see it through. I don't actually care for the leads story. It is the characters of Falguni with her shades of practicality and grey that I like.

And Baa.. Yes. Sarita Joshi does a great job with her vicious and cruel streak.⭐️ She makes it interesting.. So I may pop in and out at times and based on what is shown, may even dare to put in a couple of lines of thought😊

Sarita joshi at her best..she is a master in playing these kind of roles..
I love gauri..she has been given amazing dialogues..unlike ishani "maa mujhe make up se zyada padhai me intrest hai" wats the need of saying this line infront of her mother..her character is typical too good to be true character in all ekta kapoors show..
