I love, respect and worship Draupadi : Pooja Sharma
Pooja Sharma who is playing Draupadi for almost four months now, have shot the most awaited and extensive sequence of Mahabharat i.e "cheer-haran" just few days back. We caught up with the actress to know more about her experience with "Mahabharat"
Q. How has been your journey so far?
Ans: It has been fantastic journey. I never expected this sudden popularity. I auditioned for the show few months back and got a call within two days. I knew I had to play an extremely important character like Draupadi but how big the responsibility is; I realized only when I started shooting for the show.
Q. You have to go through tedious process of getting into character of Draupadi everyday with heavy outfits and jewellery. Tell us something about that?
Ans: It takes me at least two and half hour for entire hair and make-up. I am Draupadi throughout the day. It takes me two and half hour to get ready and at least half an hour to come out of it. I just sleep for four to five hours. Wearing such heavy jewellery and outfit drains out my energy but when I get into the character I start feeling like Draupadi and I regain my energy.
Q. You are shooting so far from Mumbai, how often do you meet your friends and family?
Ans: I hardly get time to meet them; I go to Mumbai once or twice a month. I don't even call my parents on the sets as I feel conscious in front of them. I will not be able to act if they are here. So I am staying "Far from the madding crowd" and I think it's a good way to shoot because we don't play normal characters. Our characters are larger than life.
Q. We heard you talking in "Sanskrit Hindi", how do manage that?
Ans: Yes we talk in "Shuddh Hindi" these days. In real life also address each other with character names, like I call Krishna "Sakha" and then Pandavs address each other as "Bhratashree". So our world is very different from others. We will have difficult time coming out of our characters.
Q. Who is your favourite character in "Mahabharat" other than Draupadi?
Ans: Obviously Krishna, who else? He is the heart and soul of "Mahabharat"and lessons given by him are valid for every person. And my second favourite is my charater Draupadi. I am awe of Draupadi. I just love, respect and worship Draupadi. The kind of lady she was, the life that she lived, everything is awe-inspiring.
