There have been queries on the forum about the District Collector, also known as District Magistrate in the northern states.
BV has portrayed the collectorate as a building housing just one office -- that of the District Collector. In fact, the DC heads a large unit of officers. There are half -a dozen Additional District Magistrates and Deputy Collectors, assigned different portfolios, who work under him and assist him.
I was wondering how to bring out this fact. Finally, I found this website which gives an idea of how many officers work in the collectorate.
Lucknow is the capital of UP. Other districts may not have such a large complement of officers but certainly they would have many more than just one DC
I could not find many videos on the correct portrayal of the Collector. But here is a video of a send-off given to a District Magistrate in U.P.. This is evidence, if any were required, that collectors don't drive their own cars. This is not about doing your own thing as Shiv has been shown. The collector needs to be driven around because he is often accompanied by officials to meetings etc.
I wonder why it is so difficult to be authentic when BV is forever hiring new actors and adding to the number of characters

Do you think it is possible for a man to be burnt alive outside the collectorate without anybody noticing it?

Quite informative post Rohini.
Can collectors carry the red lamp on their vehicle? I know earlier it was yes. Recently some rules were changed, atleast in Maharashtra, which restricted the usage of such vehicles. Still I believe a collector should have that right.
One more thing, collector's vehicle should always be accomplished by atleast one vehicle.
About being authentic, I think they must be facing logistics issues 😆. So they just take advantage of creative liberty.

I was very excited by the introduction of SRS, the District Collector, in BV.
This was so because the typical soap hero is always an arrogant business tycoon who is abusive towards the female lead.
SRS was like a breath of air, and I liked the fact that the hero was a government officer.
The initial portrayal was not without its bloopers but at least SRS was shown as a hard working officer.
His first line: mere office chhe baje bandh nahi hota ( my office doesn't close at six pm) really impressed me.
But now CVs have forgotten their own script: SRS now doesn't do late evenings!!
I'm grateful for small mercies: CVs have retained the essential SRS. He has not been turned into a semi-villain or an avenging officer who will take the law into his own hands.

Rushmee I think it is laziness rather than logistics that is responsible for the inaccurate portrayal.
It can't be that difficult to show a crowded collectorate. One standard shot followed by scenes inside the room would have sufficed.
It is true that the old style red/blue beacon is under attack Now there is an attempt to curb the VIP culture, especially after Arvind kejriwal made an issue of it. The beacon is not essential but it has to be a chauffer-driven official car.

Agree. Collector office is a huge place and it is so crowded. One feels lost there I visited only to submit my passport application and the experience put me off.😆
From then on I avoid going to govt offices and Indian bureaucracy red tape as much as possible.

The staff are so unhelpful and all the instructions and signages are only in regional language and even the office staff despite knowing that you cannot converse in the language of the natives insist on speaking only in that language

As for the efficiency of collectors going by the way things happen in their area of jurisdiction one can rightly assume that just passing an exam to get into IAS and one year of training doesn't guarantee an efficient officer in the service of public. At the end of the day it is their own dedication towards their duty and abilities that make them what they are.Even the so called honest officers they are known only fo their integrity in personal life and not for their efficiency in getting work done or for inspiring confidence in bureaucracy among public.

Not only that most of the time IAS and IPS officers come across as pompous and impressed with their own selves The handful of officers who I came across on a personal level who happened to be relatives or family friends I didn't see anything in them that set them apart from the rest of humanity.

This is how I perceive this so called intelligent people who have been chosen to man the bureaucracy in our country.
-----------------
As for the show I guess since the emphasis seem to be on family and relationships the makers must have thought that it is unnecessary to invest in a huge cast comprising collector office staff.
So the times when they decide to show some stories relating to the work of collector they show the office and the staff just as a stage and props.

May be Shiv is shown driving to and fro to the office simply because that goes with his personality. We have not seen much of his professional life either in Jaitser or Udaipur so he may be doing the work just like the other collectors do in this country just as good or as bad as the rest of them and the CVs don't feel it is necessary to show the mundane things.
