Corrective' eye surgery on SRK

Calcutta: Shah Rukh Khan, badshah at the box office and principal owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has undergone "corrective" eye surgery.

"Mr Khan had laser surgery in both eyes on Tuesday and is recovering well. Basically, he won't have to use spectacles any more," a well-placed source of The Telegraph, who is close to Shah Rukh, said on Wednesday evening.

Usually, at public events, one of the two bodyguards of Shah Rukh carried his spectacles.

They were, then, never more than an arm's length away.

"Mr Khan's in the show business and, so, it's best for him not to wear spectacles, even though largely for reading purposes," the well-placed source added.

Shah Rukh turns 49 in November and has completed around a quarter of a century on the big screen.

The well-placed source continued: "Surgery was performed in Mumbai itself and Mr Khan has been advised to take it easy for a few days. But, as you yourself know very well, he's such a workaholic."

Shah Rukh waited for the "basic shooting" of his next release, Happy New Year, to get over before heading for surgery.

Deepika Padukone, incidentally, is Shah Rukh's co-star in Happy New Year.

"At this stage, only patch-up work is being done. We're excited about the film's Diwali release and the promotionals will begin soon," the well-placed source pointed out.

Shah Rukh's last offering, Chennai Express (which also co-starred Deepika), was a smash hit and grossed well over Rs 200 crore in India alone.

It raked in crores in the lucrative US and UK markets too. That strong is Shah Rukh's draw.

The shooting schedule of Happy New Year kept Shah Rukh away from most of IPL VII, but he was present in Bangalore, on June 1, when KKR won their second title in three years.

Nowadays, Shah Rukh stays away from running KKR at the micro-level, but he remains the most passionate and energetic face of the franchise.

No.1 crowd-puller as well.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan underwent a minor eye surgery here, and he has joked that he can now "read even between the lines".

"A big thank you to Dr. Burjor Banaji & his lovely wife for doing my surgery. It's so good, that now I can read even between the lines," SRK tweeted Tuesday.

On a lighter note, SRK tweeted: "This is a joke...so some of u don't react to as an anti alcohol group. Now that I don't need glasses I will drink straight from the bottle'."
