The next morning
"Raghu, wake up sleepy head," I say "Let me sleep," he says and turns over, covering his ear with a pillow. "Raghu!" I say, really loudly this time. "Sone de chashmish."
I look at the table on my side of the bed and see a glass of water. I stiffle my giggles as I pick it up. Raghu had uncovered his face now and I dumped the glass of water on his face.
"Chashmish!" he yells, sitting up immediately. "What was that?"
"You wouldn't get up," I say innocently. He looks at me and turns. "What are you doing?" I ask.
I pick up the glass of water from my side and throw it at her face.
"Raghu!!!" she screams. "You get what you do!" I tell her. She hmphs and turns away. "Oye. Ab chal uth. Mom will probably be coming here to tell you to do something," I say.
"First you have to say sorry. Is that how you behave with your wife?" She crosses her arms and pouts, looking towards the window.
I sigh. Didn't think that this marriage thing would be this hard.
"Okay. I'm sorry Antara. I shouldn't have thrown water at you," I say. "It's okay. Now hurry up. We should go downstairs," she says, getting up.
Some things would never change.

"Antara, as the new daughter-in-law of this house, you have to complete the ritual," mom says as Raghu and I sit down on the couch. "Yes mom of course. Just tell me what I have to do and I will do it," I say. "Tume aaj sab ke liye apne haaton se kuch meetha banaana hai, rasam hai." Something sweet... hmm. I had the perfect idea.
After mom had told Antara to make something sweet, she had gone to the kitchen. I trailed behind her, wondering what she would make.
"Kya banaogi?" I asked, standing behind her. "You'll know when I bring it out. And what are you doing here? Go out," she tells me.
Seeing her busy in her work, I decide to leave her to her work.
***
"Meetha tayaar hai," I hear Antara's singsong voice say. I turn around and see her walking towards the table with a tray in her hands.
Why is she so beautiful?
My eyes never left her once as she walked to the table.
"Raghu. Raghu."
My mom's voice brought me out of my trance.
"Ji mom?"
"We were talking about how you had to go to Delhi soon. You're going to have to leave soon because there's one major deal that is yours to take care of."
I noticed the expression on Antara's face change. The smile was replaced with a lost look in her eyes.
"Excuse me, I'll be right back," she says and leaves.
"Um I'll be back too," I say and go after Antara.
***
I open the door to our room and see Antara sitting on the bed, the same lost expression on her face.
"Chashmish," I say, putting my hand on her shoulder. She turns and pulls me into a hug.
"Raghu. Mujhe Delhi nahi jaana. Mujhe Papa ke paas rehna hai," she says into my shoulder, a quite sob escaping her lips.
I run my fingers through her hair.
"Shh. No one's forcing you to come to Delhi with me. You can stay here with uncle, err Papa."
"But Raghu... I don't think I'll be able to do this on my own. I need you here with me. I don't know how, how long..."
She starts crying again. "Arre, chashmish. I told you before that you have to be strong. For your dad. Now no more crying."
I pull her away from me and slowly wipe the tears off her cheeks.
"No more crying."
She nods and smiles a little.
"Yeh tumari smile nahi hai."
"Matlab?"
"Matlab ki meri chashmish hamesha khul kar hasti hai. Aise."
I tickle her and she begins to laugh.
"Raghu, Raghu stop!"
Issi ladki se toh pyaar kiya hai maine. Hamesha hasti rehte, khush rehne waali, Antara. Yeh hai meri Antara.
