Ohhh please pal, just because your XYZ serial uses the word "Madrasan" it is no less racist. Small screen & silver screen in India use these racist stereotypes to increase their trp & entertainment quotient, as we love to laugh at others!! Words like Madrasi, Bhaiyya, Ghatti etc are racist whether we use it in popular culture or not!! The social civic sense in India has not grown to that level to move away from racist remarks!!!

Let me cite few more examples here, I have many Gujarati friends none of them say "Snacks as Snakes" but I always see people making fun of their community with such lame topics!! Then TN means Tamil Nadu. I am really sorry to say, the way you had written Keral & Madrasi, it did not look like a compliment to me!!!

If you could kindly pay attention to my posts not even once I have referred to "Marathi" being perceived as easy or difficult!! Comparing English language with Indian tongues is like comparing apples & oranges for me. Indian languages might have a common etymology where as English is a total foreign tongue for us!!!

I thought as usual, out of sheer ignorance you might have referred me as a Madrasi, but now I know you deliberately resorted to name calling.

I have no hard feelings but I feel really sorry thinking about the mindset of our own people.

I still remember of a incident doing rounds in the UK dailies how "Prince Harry" third in line of the British Throne had to publicly apologise for passing a racist remark on one of his colleagues from Pakistani origin. One should not be allowed to pass racist remarks and look how even a crown prince was no exception. God has created all of us equally which ever country or race we belong to. I really wonder when our country would get past these racist discriminations & realize that there is no fun in ridiculing someone based on their caste, colour, creed or religion.

I really do not wanna stretch it, but people from Kerala are referred as either Keralites based on the state name or Malayalis based on the language. Madrasi is an ethnic slur!!! Generalising whole of South Indian community as Madrasi makes it racist, whether you agree it or not!!!

And since you mentioned that serial Yeh Hai Mohabbatein I went and watched a couple of episodes. I did not see the word "Madrasin" used in a happy note even once, it was certainly used in a derogatory sense in the soap as well. People from Tamil Nadu are Tamils & not Madrasi. In the book 2 States as well when the Punjabi mother of the male protagonist refers the Tamil girl's side as "Madrasis" the guy gets embarassed & asks his mom to keep quiet. I don't wanna stretch this any further, because you seem to have a closed view.

Baldev is a character that has completely evolved since the leap, he is not the same person he was a kid nor is Gunjan. Their characters have changed immensely one for the better and one for the worst with both doing wrong to the SS family but the difference is how both chose to handle their mistakes.

Baldev no doubt has done some bad things to the SS family but during his latest stint after Veera told him what was at stake he himself helped her out, it proved that while Baldev has his moments of doing wrong things he is also someone who is not bad at heart. Baldev is a well layered character who has shown time and time again he does not have malice in his heart, example look at the way he helped Veera plan her brother's party and go as far as wishing him that too when he is not Ranvi's biggest fan.

Baldev truly loves Veera but has yet to realize this fact, he will be good for and she will be good for him. As for Bansuri as a mother in law, yes that will be a challenge for Veera but it can't be much worse than what she is going through currently right?
