Absurdity!
He was very familiar with this word, a very permanent word in his dictionary. In the last 15 years, many-a-times, he had crossed his own set level of absurdity. He had crossed the bar of absurdity when he was 14, waiting with an empty glass of milk. He had crossed the boundary of absurdity when he had held the gun at her, looked in her two shocked eyes, wanting to take revenge, to give justice to all the men he had lost, but still the bloods of his men, crying out loud for justice, did nothing. They didn't held enough power to pull the trigger of the gun held in his hand.
That had sacred him! He was afraid. Afraid of the two orbs staring at him.
That girl held some power. A power to make him think, a power to stop him. He had not given a heed before blaring the bullets in all the traitors around. Then why her?
He was scared of her, afraid of the power she held over him. He had fought, fought with him, fought with her. Fought with everything under day light to remove her from his soul, soul... because that's where she had made a place. She resided there. Controlling his every words, controlling his every action,...controlling him.
He needed power. He needed power over him. She was suffocating him. Her care, her love, her affection, her tenderness,...all these suffocated him. He had wanted to run away...run away from her. But she dragged him back, pulling him to hers, drowning him in her love.
And now he was like a fish. Living, eating, drinking, breathing ...all in her love. No world outside, he don't know if there's any world outside now. And he don't want to know either. Now living in any other world would mean death.
And Parvati Rudra Pratab Ranawat had dared to do that. She had dared to pick that fish and throw it on the burning sand of the seashore.
And she will pay for this. She will pay for this mistake ...all her life.
He stood there, the deserted road, not a single soul present there. No one but her. She sat there, with a small green painted trunk. Her head hung down, and as he paid a close look, like he always does, he saw a pearls of tears fall down on the ground, one after other, and mixing in the thirsty mud.
"Paro..."
Parvati's whole form stilled. The breath stuck in her throat. Fearing the worse, she slowly lifted her head to look straight into his emotionless eyes. A chill ran down her spine. Something...something has changed in this man. Something has changed...he was not the man she was living with. This man now...now scared her. She was about to get up when what he did next sucked the breath out of her.
"Ma...jor...S.a...aab" her voice betrayed her. She was facing her past again. Again the same man from the past stood in front of him. The same emotionless, heartless, ...Jallad. The same BSD officer stood in front of her, pointing a gun at her. But this time she dare not faint.
Rudra stood there, pointing a gun straight at her, his eyes coated, coated with nothing.
"I got your letter...The letter explaining how much you love me...How much you can do for me...Thank you...Thank you for thinking so much for a man like me...But you know Paro? Despite of your telling that you are leaving me for me...Despite of your telling me how much you love me...I still felt betrayed...The letters still spoke of betrayal...I wonder why?...You have an answer for everything. And I assume you have one for this as well. So can you tell me why?...Why I am feeling betrayed? "
"Major Saab...I...I..."
"No...No Paro...Let it be...I don't think I will like your answer...So let it be...just tell me now...will you come back with me?" Rudra asked. His hands weren't shaking like the first time...It wasn't shaking, because today he was dogged, dogged to take back what is solely his.
Parvati stared in his eyes, indefatigable, his eyes were indefatigable. And she knew what to do. She can't go back on her words, she can't break her promise. If the choice is between his life and her, then there is no choice. She closed her eyes in submission. It was better. The bullet will pierce her heart and will stop the ache there, will stop the life she was going to spend without him. She waited, she don't know how many seconds, minutes or hours passed. But she waited. But nothing happened. She opened her eyes.
"Major Saab!!!!" A blood curdling voice rang in the deserted road. She ran towards him.
"Put it down! Please put it down, Major Saab..." Her weak hands did a futile attempt to pull his hand down, which was pointing the gun to his head.
"I will!...Just come with me..." his voice as cold as the night's silent breeze caressing them.
"I can't..please understand...Please don't do this...please put the gun down...I beg you...please...please Major Saab..." Parvati begged.
"Yes or No? If yes, we are going back home. And if no then you are free to call anyone to take my dead body.."
"DON'T SAY THAT!!! WHY AREN'T YOU UNDERSTNDING?!! Please...please Major Saab...please...I beg you...put the gun down and go back...please..."
"I haven't given you the third option. Just two. Choose NOW!" He stood there, the gun still pointed at him. He wasn't looking in her eyes. Because this time he needed control, control over him, control over her, control over his life, which was lately shifted in her hand.
"I will..."
Rudra looked in her defeated eyes for a flickering seconds before averting his eyes.
"Good..." Putting the gun down, he took her hand in his and took her towards his jeep.
"Parvati.."
"Paro..."
"Bhabhi-sa..."
Ignoring every call of his family, he took her to their room. Parvati followed him silently.
Once inside the room, he left her hand and closed the door. He waited for few seconds, regulating his breath before he began.
"Paro you know, you have done nothing wrong. Actually you did the right thing today. I ...I feel alive, powerful...You had killed something inside me...something was murdered...but now again I feel alive...energetic...thank you, Paro...thank you..." Rudra looked at Paro, who was turned into a statue. He wondered if she was even breathing.
"I want to go..."
Rudra's head jerked up to look at her, his eyes menacing.
"What did you say?"
"I said I want to go..." Again came the low whisper.
Rudra walked towards her, his walk controlled and also the demon which was dithering to let lose. He caught her arms and made her sit on the bed.
"You are not well, Paro...sleep.." he tried to tuck her inside the blanket.
But the blanket was flunked in the air the very next moment.
"I said I want to go away, Major Saab. I can't break my promise. I CAN'T!! I WANT TO GO AWAY!! I DON'T WISH TO STAY WITH YOU!! LEAVE ME!! I WANT TO GO AWAY!!!"
His hold on her arms tightened, his jaw clenched, his eyes dangerous, frightening.
"Hadn't you heard what I said? I said you will go nowhere. YOU. Will. Go. Nowhere. Understood?" he breathed on her cheek.
Parvati's misted determined eyes looked into his intimidating one.
"I want to go...I will go...I. Will. Go. You can't capture me here."
A saucy smile graced his lips and soon the perilous sound of his laughter resounded in the closed room. He looked at Paro, trying to control the laughter.
"You know Paro? I. can." He looked in her eyes. "I can..You know why?" Rudra cupped her face between his cold palm. "Because I am a Jallad. A Jallad. And a Jallad can do anything. Anything, Paro...anything.."
Paro looked in his eyes. Something about him was frightening today. HE was frightening. His eyes were scary.
"Good." He patted her cheek. "Good that you are afraid of me. This fear will stop you everytime you will think of leaving me...Good.."
"I...I am not afraid...I am NOT afraid..."
Rudra smiled.
"You are not good at lying. " He again cupped her face and lifted her face so that she can look straight in his eyes. "You are not good at lying, Paro...You know what you are good at? You know?" he asked. "Don't you know? I will tell you...You are good at betraying ...You are good at breaking my trust...You are good at evoking the Jallad in me...You are so good at that, Paro. Very Good..." He leaned forward, his face dangerously close to hers. He stared down at her tears, running down freely. "Don't cry, Paro. Don't cry...It's not your fault...It's in your blood...Women have that thing in them, you know? The thing that ...that tells them, they are right...they are right in being selfish...they are right in being selfless...they are right in taking decision for everyone related to them...they are right at EVERY BLOODY THING THEY DO!!"
A loud gasp left her mouth as she tried to hunch back.
"Yes. That look. Don't mask that look. Befriend it. That will help you... Will make your life with me easier...That will make your life with me easier." Rudra wiped her tears with the sleeve of his kurta. "Don't cry...I don't like your tears..have never liked it...don't cry...be quiet..."
"I...Please...please let me go...I can't break my promise...please...I can't risk your life...please...let me go..." Parvati sobbed. He was frightening.
"Risk my life? You have already done that, Paro...There's no need to break any promise for that. My life is already at risk, at your mercy. AND I HATE YOU FOR THAT!!" Rudra hissed out his every words. He again splintered into mirth. "At your mercy..." Rudra laughed. "You are enjoying it, don't you? You are enjoying seeing a powerful man like me telling you that he is at your mercy...But you know what Paro? We pay for every luxury we enjoy. And you will pay too...Don't worry..." He pulled her in his arms. "Don't be afraid of me..." he fully took her in his arms, rocking her back and forth. "I will never harm you. Can never hurt you." he kissed her hair.
"Please..."
He heard her muffled voice between sobs.
"Shhh...Shhh, Paro. Don't cry...You are not going anywhere, whether you like it or not. You are not leaving this room. Anything you need, tell me. I will bring. But you are not leaving this room, ever. You will live here. Don't worry about anything. I will bring anything you want, but you are not leaving this room. Ever..."
"You can't do that...You can't..."
"I can Paro..." Rudra rubbed her back. "The person who was living with you would have never done this." He caressed her hair. "But the man you left behind can do this...The Jallad can do anything...can even prison you here for all your life..."
"And that's what he will do. Trust is broken, Paro. Again I was abandoned. I was force to relive that nightmare. And now I don't want that again. Don't want, Paro...Sleep...You need to sleep..." And that's what she did. She slipped into oblivion.
Rudra dislodged himself from her and laid her on the bed. He cleared the strands that was flickering over her pale cheek and caressed her cheek with his thumb.
"Your Major Saab is dead now, Paro...The Jallad is back...Hope the Jallad is powerful enough to hold you to him...which your Major Saab failed to do..."
And I swear to God, Rudra's all stunt of threatening his life was in my mind before even the promo of his jumping on the track was aired😆 Just thought of clarifying it😉
Whenever I read anything about Othello, all comes to my mind is a possessive and obsessive lover. And when I relate him to Rudra, this comes out. I seriously had thought that when Paro will try to leave him, he will still love her, he will always believe that she loves him but he will never again trust her for not leaving him. Because it was her love for him that made her take that decision.
So, now all I hope is you all understand the Rudra I have tried to Portray above :)
Do leave back your feedback :)
