Priyanka Chopra had a busy day today. Apart from attending the launch of Dilip Kumar's autobiography, she also attended a UNICEF event.
Priyanka who is a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF in India attended the 'Deepshikha' program which aims at empowering young and adolescent girls in India.
At the event, Priyanka talked strongly on disparity that exists in remuneration for male and female actors in Bollywood. In Priyanka's words, "The male actors do get paid a lot more. There is a tremendous disparity in remuneration between male and female actors. The remuneration difference is insane as the disparity is big. I feel we have strong female performers, and the day female-oriented films do well at the box office it will lead to it ".
Priyanka also talked about how gender discrimination existed in her family too and how her parents supported her all through.
"Even my family was conservative... from my father's side there was discrimination between girls and boys. I was told that my dad had to be with me if I wanted to get into films. My parents, who are doctors, did sacrifice and came to Mumbai to fulfil my dreams. I feel lucky that my parents have always supported me," she added.
Priyanka, who was shooting for Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do' (DDD), flew down from Barcelona to attend the event. The 31-year-old will also attend the announcement of a road in Andheri that will be named after her late father Dr. Ashok Chopra, on June 10, to mark his first death anniversary.
