"If I didn't care this us' thing would have stopped a long time ago'
Randhir'
That one voice froze all his thoughts, all his movements, as the photo frame slipped from his hands, dropped to the ground and the glass shattered.
She ran foreword and bent to pick up the picture that lay among the shattered glasses. It was a small boy smiling happily, a glow on his face as his parents stood by him like strong pillars, ready to rip any external force, threatening to cause harm to their child.
She looked up to stare into his face. There were dark bags under his eyes, like he hadn't slept for nights, his face was contorted from inside like he felt no emotion but unadulterated pain.
A tear slipped from his eyes and before it could fall onto the floor, she cupped out her hand, as the drop splashed into her hand.
He stared at the tear she was clasping in her hand and then up at her sweet face.
The storm that was raging within him, threatening to destroy all his sanity, seemed to have come to a temporary stop, with her arrival.
Leave the pieces, there's no use picking them up now' his tired voice came in as he turned away.
She stood up, clutching the photo in her hand, as she placed the other hand on his shoulder. He shuddered under her touch.
If you stop trying...' her voice came in.
He moved away, shrugging her hand away.
I can't, I can't try anymore. I am sick and tired of trying, I don't want this, why is it so difficult for them to understand? Why?' he said tears silently seeping down his cheeks.
Her nose turned crimson red, as she sniffled, his tears magically falling from her eyes too. It wasn't often that she saw him broken like this. Frankly speaking, she didn't know why she had lately started caring so much for him, why she felt pained when he was in pain.
I know it hurts Randhir, I know how it feels. You can still do something about it only if you try. Talk to your parents. They'll understand your turmoil' she said almost pleading.
A sad and broken laughter reverberated from his mouth followed by a frustrated bout of tears.
They won't understand a thing. No-one does, If they did would I ever see this day? he cried his entire demeanour shaking.
There comes a time, when one is confused if their soul is weeping for the situation or the person, in the situation. Looking at a shattered Randhir her mind was in a dilemma along the same thoughts.
No-one understands the pain that I go through or I am going through, not even you. Everyone's always ready for sympathies, aren't they? Look at you for instance. Why are you even here Sanyukta?'
I am here for you' she said.
Really? You never are there for me because...you're always for Parth' he burst out saying.
Sanyukta stood and stared at the boy who she had fought with always fight with his emotions. Fight with everyone and everything around him.
And Parth?
Why did it hurt so much when Randhir mentioned his name? Was it because the friendship wasn't there anymore or was it because it pained her to hear, that Randhir would think so.
It's like she couldn't stop her steps from advancing towards him, tears falling from her eyes. She placed a hand on his shoulders and turned him around looking into his teary eyes and tear-stained cheeks. She cupped his face with her hands and stroked his cheek with her thumb.
He closed his eyes savouring her touch for a moment, wishing against all odds that they could remain this way forever.
I am here. For you, always. I am here because I know you need me. I am here because...
I need you too' she said looking into his eyes with a firm look.
Randhir opened his eyes at her last words as he stared into her teary eyes.
Parth will always be my best-friend no-one's ever going to take his place, but you...'
You mean so much more to me, more than anyone I could ever imagine' her words came out in a whisper.
Sanyukta' he sighed.
As he gently cupped her face and brought it close to his, their noses touching as tears ran down their cheeks.
They cried silently, not knowing what their broken souls would do without the other. It was like they were unique pieces of a puzzle that had no other fit, but themselves. No matter what happened between them they always ended up with each other, either against or for.
Randhir lowered his mouth as Sanyukta neared closer to him. The moment their lips touched the emotional turmoil quietened down. Their tears mingled, their breaths became one, their heart-beat pronounced them together.
It was a promise even if it was a silent one, that they would never let go off each other.
Their kiss deepened, as Sanyukta slowly let the words fall from her mouth.
I love you'
Randhir felt like some-one had sucked out all of his breath, when he heard those words fall from her mouth. He looked into her soulful eyes and said, I love you more' They embraced like there was never tomorrow, as Sanyukta said,
I'll never give up on you' and Randhir smiled pulling her closer as he said, I know'
