Rahat's eyes scanned the words on the newspapers looking for anything of value to read. It seemed as though everyday there was the same depressing information on the pages. Murder, corruption, discrimination... was there no end to the criminal rampage that was constantly gripping the country. With a sigh, his fingers brushed the edges of the paper in his attempt to turn the page when the guest door to Haaya and Mrs. Dilshad's room opened.
With veiled interest, he glanced over the paper at the welcomed interruption, his heart unintentionally leaping in excitement when he saw Haaya exit the room with her badi ami. To mask his interest, he glanced back at the paper momentarily before resting his eyes on her once more, his expression softening ever so slightly as he observed the admirable tenderness with which she cared for her grandmother. It seemed that the innocence which caressed her beautiful face was thoroughly pure, for her act of benevolence towards her badi ami reflected nothing but an angel's touch.
As Dilshad continued to cough, his brows furrowed slightly in concern and he followed Haaya's every step as she walked over to the cabinet to withdraw what he could only believe was medication. Her every movement seemed to play in his mind in slow motion as he drank in the tenderness with which her hair brushed her soft skin, the silky strands cascading elegantly on her shoulders. When the cabinet door slammed shut, the thought snapped out of his mind and he felt his muscles stiffen in tension once more when he saw the blood tainting her finger.
The pain which was reflected in her eyes, in her every expression seemed to stab his very heart and his fingers grip the edge of the pages in his effort to use every bit of his self control to remain sitting on his seat. Keeping his mask of neutrality on, he looked on as she approached her badi ami once more before they re entered their room. Each second that ticked by was akin to physical agony until finally the door closed behind them.
He glanced at the door once more to confirm that it was indeed locked before folding the paper and walking over to the cabinet. Quickly, he ruffled through the contents until he found the bandaid and antiseptic liquid. He checked the expiration date on the bottle before walking over to the small table next to the Haaya's room and placing the contents there.
Once more, he looked at the room but this time he walked towards it before coming to a silent stop in front of the door. Slowly he raised his hand and brushed the white surface, cursing his misfortune that his sister had told him to stay away from Haya. Because of that, he had been constrained in his efforts to assist her the moment she had gotten hurt. I can't see you in discomfort..' he thought as his hand slid off the door, his expression pained. With a deep breath he turned away from the door and walked back to his room.
Haaya exited the room after her badi ami had informed her about the medication, pure nervousness coursing within her. It truly hurt her to see her badi ami unwell and she hoped with such sincerity that she could bear the illness of her grandmother instead. As she took a step further she noticed the bandaid and bottle lying on the table. Curious, she picked it up wondering which kind soul would have left it there.
Her question was answered when she looked up and saw him walking towards his the room. Unconsciously a small smile tugged at her lips and she glanced back at the objects in her hand once more. For all his harshness, his coldness and his blatant indifference, it seemed that Akdoo had a kind heart, she thought.
Perhaps there was more to him that she had allowed herself to understand. Beneath the stern exterior she was certain that there was someone gentle and engaging, someone capable to empathy and tenderness. She had seen a glimmer of it when he played his instrument. And today again she had seen it, regardless of how much he had tried to conceal it.
"I can't hear you.." - she thought- "But I can see you.."
