The relative Bollywood advantage | |

Being from a film family has undoubtedly always been an advantage for aspiring artistes to step into the industry. However that shouldn't give the other debutantes, who aren't remotely connected to the industry, a reason to grumble. Whether it's Soha Ali Khan, Siddharth Koirala or Abhay Deol, each one had the relative benefit in getting their first assignments. But the advantage ends there. A family backing cannot make you survive in this big bad industry of Bollywood. That's where talent comes into picture. Here's a list of Bollywood entrants of 2005 who are coming in through the familiar path. Aryaman Son of producer Keshu Ramsay Debut in Family This could be a dream or a debacle debut for Aryaman as he will share screen space with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar in his first film aptly titled Family being directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by father Keshu. If he succeeds in making his presence felt amongst the stalwarts, it's a dream come true for him and god forbid, if not, the downfall will be a nightmare. Karan Sharma Son of filmmaker Romesh Sharma (producer of Hum) Debut in Dil Jo Bhi Kahey Karan is another newcomer who will make his debut alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Dil Jo Bhi Kahey being produced and directed by his father. Standing a little more tall than 6'3", Karan should perfectly complement Big B as his son on the big screen. Well which actor wouldn't want to play Big B's onscreen son today and more so when it's his debut film one can always say, "There's lot that I learned from Bachchan saab". Karan plays the male lead of the film and is paired opposite British actress Annabelle Wallace. This summer release is based on culture chaos with a contemporary Mauritian setting. Harman Baweja Son of filmmaker Harry Baweja Debut in Love Story 2005 - 2050 Harry Baweja has planned a futuristic sci-fi love story as the ideal launch for his son Harman for which he even signed Kareena Kapoor for a whopping remuneration. Siddharth Anand Nephew of actor-director Tinnu Anand Debut as director in Salaam Namaste Siddharth Anand who assisted Kunal Kohli in the making of Hum Tum makes his directorial debut in the Yash Raj banner with Salaam Namaste starring Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta in lead roles along with Arshad Warsi. This romantic comedy will be entirely shot abroad. Zoya Akhtar Daughter of Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani Debut as director with Luck By Chance Zoya has worked as the casting director for many films but will now turn director with Luck By Chance. Brother Farhan Akhtar is always there to support. Mohit Suri Nephew of writer-director Mahesh Bhatt Debut as director in Zeher Mahesh Bhatt once said, "We would like to create stars rather than buying stars". And continuing that tradition he has been promoting new performers and technicians in the Bhatt camp. The latest on the block is his nephew Mohit Suri who recently made his debut with Zeher. Ranbir Kapoor Son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh Ranbir had assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the making of Black. There were talks that he will be launched under an RK banner film or in a film by Aditya Chopra but everything has been ruled off as rumors. Lets see how this first cousin of Kareena and Karisma Kapoor makes it to the big screen. Sonam Kapoor Daughter of Anil Kapoor Another star successor who assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the making of Black and her work profile included shopping for props for the film from Mumbai's famous Chor Bazaar, which she did pretty well. The stunningly looking Sonam is essentially a star-material. So what's keeping her away from the camera? Her height! This tall girl needs Bollywood heroes to match her elevation. But when Sushmita Sen can find partners and sustain in the industry, why not a Sonam Kapoor? We are enthusiastically anticipating for her long jump in the tinsel town. Sikander Kher Son of Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher He may not really have the looks of a star but neither did his parents. So even if he just inherits the acting prowess of his father and mother, then he has won half the game. Sikander too has assisted Bhansali earlier and was recently in news for reportedly dating actress Gul Panag. Natasha Madhvani Daughter of yesteryear actress Mumtaz She was supposed to debut in Sohail Khan's Maine Dil Tujhko Diya but lost her role to Sameera Reddy thanks to her highly anglicized accent. Buzz is that Mumtaz's close friend and co-star in many films, Feroz Khan will launch her in his next film. Nothing has been confirmed though. Neel Mathur Son of singer Nitin Mukesh and grandson of singer Mukesh His father had a small-time stint with singing in 90's while his grandfather, needless to mention, remains one of the most prominent names on the industry's singer list. In fact Mukesh had even acted in some films in his early days. Neel might not have inherited the singing prowess from his ancestors but promises to be a good performer. The lad even assisted Kunal Kohli in the making of Hum Tum. Meghaa Mukherjee Daughter of yesteryear actress Moushmi Chatterjee Mom wanted her to be a writer but she wants to be an actress. Trained in dancing and acting, Meghaa bears a striking resemblance to her mother and even chatters uninterruptedly like her mom, but without that Bengali accent. Her small stint with acting involves a child artist role where she played the character of young Moushumi in Doordarshan's decade old tele-serial Talaash directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Siddharth Bhatt Son of Mahesh Bhatt and brother of Pooja Bhatt He might soon be Bhatt's next offering to Bollywood Vastavikta Daughter of yesteryear actor Rajkumar Brother Puru Rajkumar might not have been successful in making it big in Bollywood. Now it's sister's turn who will be introduced in Karan 'Girlfriend' Razdan's Junoon - The Obsession. Sonya Jehan Grand-daughter of famous Pakistani singer and actress Noor Jehan This gorgeous beauty makes her debut as Mumtaz Mahal in Akbar Khan's much-delayed Taj Mahal. Mimoh Son of Mithun Chakraborthy Reported to be a terrific dancer like his father apart from being a martial arts champ, Mimoh was supposed to make his debut with a Venus film. But now the buzz is that he will be launched in his father's home-production. Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash Sons of Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan Debut as music directors in American Daylight The duo who are skilled in Indian classical music have composed the background score for the English film American Daylight directed by Academy Award Winner Roger Christian. They have even composed a qawalli for the film. Apart from American Daylight they are also coming out with a lounge music album. Karan Khanna Nephew of Vinod Khanna and cousin of Akshaye and Rahul Khanna Debut in Bachke Rehna Re Baba In his debut film the man is paired opposite Mallika Sherawat. Lets see how many lip-locks are in store for him. |
