Narendra Modi's new council of ministers, Congress on Tuesday took pot-shots at the new government saying its HRD Minister Smriti Irani was "not even a graduate".

Wondering how can someone who has been made in charge of HRD has not even clearly mentioned her educational qualifications, Congress leader Ajay Maken tweeted: "What a Cabinet of Modi? HRD Minister (Looking after Education) Smriti Irani is not even a graduate!

TO say that someone needs to be educated for HRD min is like to be pilot for civil aviation and a miner for COAL min said Omar Abdullah
a BJP sopekperson said that for a ruler big heart and common sense is necessary
Now a days people with 96 % not getting admissions in thei fav colleges
but even 6th pass are becoming union ministers

your thoughts on the issue

when jaanta ya "pankha" (fans) meherban toh gadhaa pehelwaan. 😆
On a serious note, a PM has the prerogative to choose th ministers of his cabinet. Academic qualification, health, experience were never a legal criteria for the job of a minister. Why is Smriti Irani being singled out? Remember, we also had a certain dacoit turned politician, the angootha chhap Phoolan Devi once!
Some said that it is because the academicians would fl it inappropriate to have a non graduate call the shots.
Others said that it is not so much her qualifications as the fact that she misrepresented facts on the affidavits.
I say when was honesty a criteria for a political job?
There are also some who said that a ministry is basically run by the bureaucrats and not the minister hersdelf. That raised questions whether she wass put deliberately as a dummy so that Modi could have full reigns with himself.

Higher education is not necessary but preferable for high level ministers. Political leaders should be selected based on their capabilities and accomplishments alone. But education is a huge plus. That being said many brilliant people are not educated and should not be dismissed for lacking one factor.

Congresses role is to be the opposition and question the ruling party. Let them. It is a system of checks and balances. It sounds petty. However, I think Smriti Irani is the weakest link in an otherwise good set of Modi picks. I'm not that aware of Indian politics, but I don't think Smriti Irani is as accomplished as some of his other picks. I didn't think she had significant achievements to warrant the post. But I could be wrong. Maybe someone can update me why Modi picked her for Human Resource Development and why she is suitable for the post.

^^ sometimes lack of accomplishments could be the strong link or say the very factpr that tilts the balance in the candidate's favour 😛
