Daler sends legal notice to Yash Chopra

Noted pop singer Daler Mehendi sent a legal notice to producer Yash Chopra seeking damages of Rs 1 crore for criminal breach of trust, alleging his voice was replaced by that of another singer in the title song of the upcoming film, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

Mehendi, through his counsel Nawal Kishore Jha, also sent notices to director Shaad Ali, lyricist Gulzar and singer Shanker Mahadevan and sought unconditional apology within 15 days.

If the parties do not reply within the stipulated time frame, his client (Daler Mehendi) shall be constrained to proceed for prosecution against all these persons for 'criminal acts of cheating, fraud and deceitful manoeuvring,' Jha said.

Daler Mehendi claimed after singing and dubbing the title song Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, the producer removed his voice and replaced it with that of Shanker Mahadevan to deprive him from getting remuneration for belting out the number.

This fact came to light only on May 15 when the album was released, the counsel said.

Yash Raj Films' statement on Daler Mehendi

Yash Raj Films had got Daler Mehendi to sing for one of the Jhoom (Punjabi version) songs, but the terms and conditions did not work out, and thus we (Yash Raj Films) were informed by Daler's secretary that we should remove his voice, which we then did and preceded with Shankar Mahadevan's voice.

This matter was thus concluded approximately 11 months ago, and we (Yash Raj Films) are surprised that Daler Mehendi is bringing this matter up now.

No offense but I think Shankar's success is getting to his head, because even tho I like his version of JBJ title song, he has no right to have another singer sing a song and then instead of putting his song on the cd he records his own and puts it on the cd

No no ur mistaken.. it was not Shankar's descision.. i read an article that Big B wanted the song to be redone in Shankar's voice becuase he thinks it is lucky for him coz of Kajra Re and Rock n Roll Soniye.. even one of the SEL confirmed this.. il post a link to that article

Even I had read an article where Amitabh denies that he asked to make the changes, instead Amitabh said that Shankar who is in charge of the music wanted to record the song in his own voice

SEL could've included the song which Daler sang... its like not recognising someone's work 😳
