The four Days!

Chapter-23:

Thirukkural: (Chapter-44; Poem-435)

The prosperity of him who does not timely guard against faults, will perish like straw before fire.

The First Clue:

"Sir! Two of the women returned home!"

Chottu announced cheerfully.

We looked up at him pleasantly, for that was the first good news we heard in days!

"Mrs. Shruti Priyan, the nurse, returned on her own. She climbed she went to visit her mother who was ill and needed her help. The reason she didn't inform her husband was hed scold her if he knew about it for he hadn't had good terms with her mother after their marriage. She said, she thought she could return the next morning, but she had to admit her mother in a nursing home."

"Women!" I sighed.

"Mrs. Ranjani Sibikumar was found in a lodge with her baby by the local police. And the couple forgot the fight now they started on the day of her missing!"

Chottu said it with a smirk.

His mobile rang and he excused himself and moved to a corner.

I got to my feet and went to the clip-board and removed the pictures of the two women, who were now with their family again.

'If the other women can return to their families...'I thought.

Chottu spoke again.

"Sir! One new case! One girl is missing from day before yesterday evening!"

'Oh, God!'

"Her parents are coming here now to talk about the issue. The inspector has sent them here personally for we've asked for immediate notification and the time of missing insists our attention. It was the previous evening got the message the next morning. And the remaining missing women were now safe if we take that they were the only other persons missing since that evening. The scenario might change if we got any other belated complaints."

Arjun got his point and nodded silently.

"The name of the girl is Dhanya Shekar- 19 yrs old- Studying in SSM college of Engineering. She went to college this Tuesday and while returning, her friend insisted to visit her house on the way. The three girls went to the friend's house and while returning back it was nearly 06:30 that evening. The other girls got an auto on a side street and Dhanya started walking towards the main road to get a bus. Then she went missing.

The uncle who was on a business trip returned yesterday night and found the house was empty.

He checked her mobile for an explanation for it was their routine that if she wanted something she would message him or leave a saved message in her mobile.

She is not allowed to keep a mobile in her class. If she wanted to talk to her parents, she d keep it in silent mode and leave it in her bag in class hours, occasionally.

Her uncle called her friends and got the message that she visited her friend the previous evening.

The parents were informed and now they are here!"

He filled us with the information he got through e-mail.

"She had any affairs that you may know of?" Arjun was keeping his voice casually and asked lightly.

"Sir! She is just a child! She would have told us if she had one! Believe me sir, Dani is not that sort of girl, who d hide a serious matter like this from us!"

Her father refused the thought right away.

Her mother was crying silently as her uncle was sitting next to her mother feeling guilty that he could not face his sister. After his wife's death he was living alone and when the proposal that Dhanya would stay with him for her studies arose. He was more than happy to accept her. But once he knew that she was missing while he was on a trip, it was excruciating him ever since. When the friend, who invited the girls to her house was repenting and crying for her mistake he could not console her. It was like shriving while he had to ask for forgiveness to someone when none was ready to hear him now.

He said in a hoarse voice that, "If she had kept the mobile with her..."

His voice trailed off.

His sister looked up hopefully and when she remembered that her daughter had not taken the mobile with her, she lowered her head in frustration, a new trickle of tears rolled on her cheeks.
