The four Days!

Chapter-21:

Thirukkural: (Chapter-70; Poem-696)

Knowing the king's disposition and seeking the right time, (the minister) should in a pleasing manner suggest things such as are desirable and not disagreeable.

She woke up with a start and was too excited to go back to sleep again. Her mind was elsewhere, but there.

What a good friend Ayesha is to have!', she thought suddenly as she remembered the other day's events in a flow.

That day she said, "Sakshi! Don't lie over. Tell him soon!"

They were alone in the conference room.

"Soon! Not today okay?"

"Fair enough!"Ayesha replied sternly.

"But how? That's the question!"

"Right!" she gave in at once, "First get a soft corner for you in his heart. To get that you've to be careful not to irritate him by any means! Try to support his thoughts, speech uh... you name it!"

"Okay!" she said obediently.

"Your time starts now! Here he comes!"

Ayesha announced.

Arjun approached his chair and put his gun on the table.

"Ayesha, get me the circular of that 'Cancer awareness program!'"

He took the newspaper in hand.

Ayesha winked at Sakshi and said, "Sakshi! Can you please take the file? It's on the computer room table!"

"Ayesha!" As expected, he was preparing for an onset.

Sakshi cut in.

"He is right Ayesha! How can I do that for you? You go and get the file!!"

They both smiled and Ayesha left the room for the file. Arjun thought, 'What's this drama for?', behind his news paper.

That was a week, before she took the historical leave.

The hall was well packed with police officers from different parts of the city.

They had gathered for a meet there.

It was an awareness program. The commissioner was addressing the meeting.

"...They say chocolates at least do some good to the heart, unlike cigarettes to the lungs. As policemen, we have to show the society the right way to move on. It's right! We can't change a thing in a day and it will take time while it is an addiction. Whenever you feel like smoking, take some chocolates! Today we take a decision that we try our best to discard cigarette,

cigar, tobacco and the sort. As a token of that decision made, we shall treat ourselves with a chocolate!" he announced.

"Of course, who doesn't smoke may have the right to take more than one. Thank you!"

He finished with a smile.

The room buzzed with a muffled laughter.

Arjun was the first to leave the hall. We followed him suit. When it was her turn, Sakshi took a chocolate and on second thought took her second one and mumbled."I don't smoke!"

That brought a smile on our faces.

We took our seats in the car. Chottu was at the wheel and I was in the back of the passenger seat with the girls, who seemed arguing something in a lower voice.

As Arjun was about to open the front door, a man approached him and informed that the commissioner was calling him.

Arjun thought a moment to give the chocolate in his hand to Sakshi who showed much interest in it. But she had another one in her hand along with the one eaten half already.

He threw the chocolate into the glove compartment and left.

When he returned Sakshi was sinking her teeth into the last piece of the second chocolate and was still arguing. Arjun shook his head and asked, "Guys, shall we move?"

The duo turned and nodded quietly.

Arjun turned his head to know what was going on. Ayesha smiled slightly and said, "Nothing sir!"

Arjun stretched his head yet again and asked, "What's going on guys?"

"Nothing sir!" I replied then and thought, 'What got into you girls?'

Ayesha turned to Arjun and said, "Sir! I think, if men are somewhat open and expressing their feelings at least a bit," she outlined mildly," There won't be a problem and everything will be cool. I'm not mentioning everybody!"She significantly eyed at Chottu and me. I looked at her as Chottu smiled at her through the rear view mirror.

"There won't be a problem," Arjun responded at once, "If women are somewhat smart and understanding and, "He looked her over his shoulders, "I'm not mentioning you!"

"He is righ-"Sakshi started to assert as before, even before she could know the full impact of his statement, but was checked by Ayesha's pinch.

When we reached the office, Sakshi was ready for an expostulation.

Ayesha motioned her to the rest room for a tete-a-tete.

"I'm sorry!"

"----"

"Ayesha, please! I know I did it all wrong. But in the pinch of the moment, I forgot to consider the point that he was blaming and with your pinch I shut my mouth at the right moment, didn't I?" she asked Ayesha apologetically.

"Right!"

"Approaching him by supporting him is not working!"

"Then go away from him!" she said rudely.

"-----"

"Oh! Don't scorch me madam!" she took a step back playfully.

"I mean let him decide, let him feel your absence, Sakshi!"

"----"

"Take a leave for a week-"

"A whole week?"

She asked astonishingly and widened her eyes.

"Or at least three days!"

"Maximum two days! Period!"

"Oh! All right, two days, but don't try to communicate him by any means. He should feel the seclusion in your absence, if you are correct about his mind towards you!"

"He should! But- two- full- days!"

"But don't apply for leave this week. He will clutch your throat. May be next week!"

"I have a whole week then to be around, at least. Any way thanks!"

She said sarcastically.

"Oh, come on! Then what are friends for?" Ayesha laughed and thought, 'How this thing, love, leads everyone by the nose!'

The second day ends here. But not its prints...

Ayesha is suggesting Sakshi to take leave for a week. But poor Sakshi how can she live for a week without seeing & ofcourse without arguing with Arjun. Eagerly waiting to see Arjun missing Sakshi
