Consider many engineers / professionals changing thier fields and making big in different fields.

Eg: Business professional / engineers after a while entering the entertainment industry and maing big, holds true for some sports personalities too.

Should a person go on his/her personal assessment of making a good career or should deviate the career path based on advise of others??

PS- personal assessment here is based on the fact that one's age is greater than 18 years.

advise matters as long as it is unbiassed and from a person who actually understands your situation, your expertise and also about both the careers.
finally, we must choose what to do..

Everyone in the end does what he thinks is right. We might take advice but to follow them is one's own wish and very few people tend to do that unless ur advice makes a drastic change in dem. 😳

A person going in for a change of profession most probably knows what he/she is getting into. That person is aware of his/her situation and how it will affect his/her life henceforth. Taking advice is ok as one become aware of various different perspectives regarding a decision but ultimately it is upto the person who should decide whether a change is good for him or not.

See, if that man or woman is successful, almost everybody says what a courgeous move but if unfortunately that persons fails in the change of profession, then those same people will say we had warned you still you went ahead...so listen to the world but act according to your heart because ultimately we know ki hum kitne paani main hai.. kinda thing... 😛

Also there are some people who just change because they are passionate about one particular line of work and that line interests them very much.

advise matters to some extent however the person seeking advice should have some sense to make his/her own decision. one must always do what he/she believes in. if a person believes that he can excel in engineering but follows next doors advice to get into entertainment industry and on top of it he doesnt excel in it then whats the use. on the other hand he might be outshining in entertainment industry but he is still restless, whats the use? one must know their own flaws and skills to make a sound judgement.

Everyone keeps on advising us to open our own restaurant 😕 as both I and hubby are great cooks.... 😕 but I don't see ourselves working 8 hours, five days a week, and making what we are making now by running an Indian restaurant. Ya, some advises are meant to be ignored 😉 😆

As it is, unsolicited advises on how to behave etc. turn me soooo offf. I know this is not the topic here but wanted to talk about it.

Good topic Anshu,
Your topic subject reads "Does Advise matter" and then you gave an instance...
I assume that your instance was just a case in point to exemplify the topic and not meant to limit the debate to discuss advises regarding "change of profession" only! 😛 ...With that assumption...

Advises are great and are always welcome. Not taking advises from other presumes that one considers himself/herself a perfect homo sapien who is able to utilize 100% of his/her brain. An average homo sapien is not able to utilize more than 2% of the total brain through the lifetime (I am told)....I interpret that as availability of the room to be filled by others' advises.

In other words, since you cannot think of all possibilities, let others chime in.

Having said that, personally I listen to all but in the end, I trust my own instinct and knowledge to make a decision. Also, some people's advises weigh more than others. As an example, if the advise comes from my mother, then it takes an altogether different meaning because that advise, I know for sure, is selfless....if not the best... 😛...So there are several factors which govern, how far the advises effect my decision making such as dependability, knowledgebase, relevance to the situation, trustworthiness....to name a few.. 😊

Good topic. If one is able to judge the pulse of a good advisor, it can save someone much heartache later. I feel its good to seek advice from people who are wise and have had the experience. The hard part is deciding which advice to follow. Ultimately one has to decide for oneself only the path to follow.😛 One's intiuation in the end is sometimes the best guide.
