Actually I think they based it on the English movie, Sabrina.
And it was around that time when people in India weren't Hollywood-crazy so it was easy to feed it to the audience as original.
It won awards too.

I saw this movie back in 97 (after I became a Kajol fan) and what I found amusing was that Kajol is suppose to be a model in the movie but she looks horrendous (her black cleavage revealing dress was tacky).

this film won awards? Wth.! Its a bad film, especially the climax, its unintentionally funny. Poor acting by all 3 actors.

Looks like Akshay pushed the director towards the other side. He is sitting squeezed between Akshay and other end of the sofa.

Nawab gets the throne all by himself. Considering his physique in the 90s, He, kajol and the director could easily fit in that sofa chair.
