He started very young with ad-jingles. He paired up with his sister Sagarika to come up with Naujavan which was filled with youthful fervour. He, then, went his own way to not only sing on his own but also write and compose his songs. Tanha Dil became an anthem for the youth. He made his foray into films with Musu Musu Hasi, Woh Pehli Baar which made him a singing sensation.
He got even closer to our hearts with his warm smile when he joined hands with Gajendrra Singh in 2004 and began anchoring Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. One cannot miss hearing the smile in his voice too. Each song, right from Dus Bahane to Chand Sifarish to Rock and Roll Soniye, is loaded with attitude.
Jury 1: Alka Yagnik
Hailing from a family rooted in classical music, Alka Yagnik, began her musical career at the age of 6 where she sang bhajans on Calcutta Radio. Her stint in the Indian Film Industry began with the Payal Ki Jhankaar (1979) and in Laawaris where she sang the famous Mere Angene Mein.
The Melody Queen, as she is called, struck gold with the saucy Ek Do Teen from Tezaab which won her the Filmfare for Best Female Playback Singer. This was the start of her career, studded with awards. Alka Yagnik has carved her niche in the industry. She is a legend in the league of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. She is the voice of divas ranging from Rekha, Sridevi, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and many more leading ladies waiting in the wings.
Jury 2: Abhijeet Bhattacharya
Abhijeet Bhattacharya, right from his childhood at Kanpur had charmed his whole community with his singing prowess. Abhijeet came to Bombay to be a Chartered Accountant but because of his love for music, he tried his luck at the Indian Music Industry. He went through lean phases but success was waiting with Baaghi. This was just the beginning. He moved on to become the voice of the Badshah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan; Chaand Taare which won him the Filmfare. He hasn't lost his childhood charms. Even today, his voice drenched with romance and mischief; Be it Ole Ole... or the most recent Lamha Lamha..., touches your heart and leaves you enchanted.
Jury 3: Aadesh Shrivastava
Sapan-Jagmohan. He tightened his grip in the industry by playing drums for stalwarts like O P Nayyar, Shankar-Jaikishen and Salil Choudhary. He went on to assist maestros Laxmikant-Pyarelal for almost a decade that strengthened his foothold as a professional composer. Aadesh's first big break was with film Kanyadaan (1993). And the one who gave voice to his compostitions was Lata Mangeshkar but unfortunately, the film didn't see the light of the day. But today, his repertoire ranges from the intensely romantic Suno Na Suno Na to the naughty Shava Shava to the soulful Kehta Hai Baabul to the festive Come on Come on. His fresh and energetic compositions can coax even those who claim to have two left feet swing to the beat.
Jury 4: Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit
The duo belong to one of the most famous families of Indian Classical Music. They branched out from their roots to become one of the most versatile composers of the Indian Film Industry. With Khiladi, they made music that was a sound prototype for the brand of music the composers were to create in subsequent years. Their love songs, like Pehla Nasha, Waada Raha Sanam, Bahon Ke Darmiyan still sound as fresh as ever. They hit stardom with the film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge where each track was different and vibrant from the other. And whether it is Loveria Hua or Aati Kya Khandala, which in spite of being a tapori number is laced with so much dignity?
Fanaa was another success story. Chand Sifarish is perhaps one of the most romantic compositions by the brothers. But after its resounding success, the two brothers have parted ways. Now they are busy with their individual careers. But one thing is for sure, the melodies are going to multiply.
