Actress Naina Gupta is currently portraying the role of Devika, fondly known as Dimpy, in the television show Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahi. Her character, who suffers from partial amnesia, carries significant emotional weight in the storyline. Through this role, Naina aims not just to entertain but also to spread awareness about amnesia and its impact on individuals and families.

Portraying a Role with a Purpose

Speaking about her character, Naina said, "I’m very happy to play such a challenging and rewarding role. It’s not just about acting in a show, but also a way to educate people about what an amnesia patient goes through."She explained that people with amnesia often have difficulty adapting to new situations due to their memory loss.

Naina elaborated, “Such patients may forget parts of their past or have trouble forming new memories, often due to brain injury, trauma, or neurological conditions. While they usually know who they are, they struggle to recall certain life events.” She believes that portraying such a character will help viewers better understand these challenges. “In a way, people will watch and learn more about it, and hopefully, they’ll know how to handle such situations with more compassion.”

Preparing for the Role

Naina shared that she devoted significant time to researching the condition. “To prepare myself, I watched several videos on YouTube and read a lot about amnesia online. It’s a tough situation for both the patient and their loved ones,” she said. “In the show, my character remembers only her son’s childhood and has no memory that he’s grown up. That emotional confusion is the most difficult part of the role.”
