This film should be credited for being the true turning point in Aamir's career. He started doing more serious roles. Thanks to controversy with Filmfare over some misquoted interview about this film, he banned media and awards!

He went on alternative and hatke path only through this film IMO. If I am not mistaken, it is due to controversies generated around this film that actors have been getting more vocal on discrepancies in media and award systems.

ahh, i still remember, i had watched this film when i was a kid, and still love it. I had cried for Aamir's character then.😆
