Dear Diksha,
I had riposted on Maham earlier...but this is my 2.5 cents worth..
Maham, hand down ...is the most fascinating character in this serial to me...coz she is the pivot ...from which point events are kicked off or managed...
She is brilliant, ambitious, cunning..an astute politician...who blindly loved this young boy ...at one point...whom she fed, nurtured and even put her life on the line to rescue...she did take an arrow for him...but that point had an ending...she loves him still...but now to further her ends
There is an element of greed, avarice, malevolence and a decent amount of psychosis there...
She is a servant who aspired to greatness...nothing wrong with that...but she ain't no Panna Dai...and she definitely ain't Yashoda...
There never was, and ever will be selflessness in her...because she ...despite all her make believe reality speeches...will never put Jalal before AdhaM...not unless it suits her own needs for that time...
She is a parasite...and a fantastic opportunist...who aimed at making hay...while Jalal was her master puppet...
The problem arose..not when he saw Jodha..but when he began to get restive..and challenged Bairam...Jalal is no weakling, effete ruler...Despite being dyslexic, he was from all accounts an intensely intelligent, savvy, astute,ruthless...far seeing Emperor...and such people...despite what she says...are born with these gifts...not made...
Jalal wanted to make his own decisions...be his own person...which Bairam could not accept...but when he did...he graciously asked to leave...Jalal and he parted on emotional terms...Maham , in her wonderful, alternate reality...conveniently omits her role in Bairam's assassination..she played up Jalal's restiveness...because it suited her purpose to move up the ladder...eliminated Bairam...and thought that now she would be the De Facto ruler of the Kingdom..
Big Mistake...remember the events of Malwa...with AdhaM ransacking and abusing the women in Baz Bahadur's harem...the first penny for Jalal dropped then...but his loyalty to his BigMomma makes him excuse her and her halfwit son...
Then enters Damsel...and all goes for a toss in Mahamland...because she sees Jalal as infatuated...and it ain't just physical...he is drawn to her almost viscerally...and Look at BigMomma's reaction...instead of being happy..she perceives it..very correctly...in the context of her selfishness..as a threat to her CONTROL over him...
All the rest of the Rajyavanshi nonsense in her speech was sugar coating flaff to mask the ultimate truth...she feared loss of control over Imperio...and therefore loss her her totally corrupted power...
Absolute power..corrupts absolutely...
That she never got to that level...was providence...
Imperio was a blessed man...and one destined to be Great...
Cheers,
LizB

Very accurate description Liz...I agree with almost everything that you've written here...
You wrote Psychoses...There is definitely some evidence of delusional, paranoid and obsessive behavior. I think that there is also evidence of some psychopathic characteristics. Not all psychopaths look like someone from Natural born killers or an alien or zombie lookalike carrying a chainsaw. Some high scoring psychopaths are extremely sophisticated, highly intelligent and seem to fit in very well in the society. In my opinion MA may not qualify as a full blown psychopath but is close. She clearly shows the following characteristics...
lack of remorse
unwillingness to accept responsibility for actions
emotional shallowness or lack of empathy
disinhibited behavior( eavesdropping and tailing boldly)
grandiose sense of self worth
cunning and manipulative behavior
unrealistic life goals... Dilli ka takht
superficial charm
parasitic lifestyle... to name a few.

As for as her love and affection for Jalal is concerned...let us wait and see if there is any depth to it or is it something that she likes telling herself to suppress her conscience from questioning her actions. We'll find out very soon.

I agree that the Rajvanshi hatred excuse is to mask the ultimate truth. It is a lesser crime for many in Agra. Shareefuddin used the same defence...Imagine his punishment had Jalal known that the real reason was greed for takht and lust for his favorite wife.

Cleo wonderful post. All the characteristics of psychopath fit MA perfectly.

unwillingness to accept responsibility for actions - she blamed Adga for exposing. Even in front of Jalal she did not show any remorse.

grandiose sense of self worth - she has got dillusions that she is someone who ONLY did not get what she deserves because of birth as bandi.

MA only did what was her duty towards Jalal - to term it as sacrifices shows her as total parasite

Find faults in others and glorify her own actions and give them pious spin.

BTW - going away from subject - MA just tired to put on "best legal defense" - what any good lawyer would try to do - try to make action look justifiable so the crime gets pardoned.

Jalal did not buy her "legal defense arguments cos of his then mental state. Otherwise 99% MA would have got away with this.

Even when talking with Rukayya yesterday Jalal has started to buy into MA arguments saying why she is comparing to Jodha they both have different positions!

Jalal needs to see ALL of MA's plots to really see through her now. This was just a trailer we saw!

Wanted to say anti-social/psychopathic cluster A type ...but it's so highly misunderstood, and used out of context...Her behaviour today was consistent with PD symptoms..
Lack of remorse..
Lack of empathy..
Justification of actions..
Ability to kill without remorse..
Does a certain Adolph H...come to mind?...
Have to get a dekho at DSM-V... New criteria for psych...wonder if our age old schiz is still 295.0..😆

Hi Liz and Cleo,

Finally pasting here what I wanted to write last night but couldn't and had mailed to Liz in the morning.

MA claimed in her diatribe that she and BK had been instrumental in transforming a child into Akbar the Great. This is my take on it.

*****************************************************************************************************

MA and BK did help in making Jalal Akbar the Great. Not by anything they taught him directly. But by first winning his unquestioned loyalty and love and then betraying him by misusing his loyalty and love to further their own ends and become de facto rulers.

At an early age, Jalal learnt that he shouldn't let anyone influence his decision making or trust anyone blindly. He learnt to detach his personal life from his royal one and kept court relations professional. He created a close circle of loyal and talented people around him and kept greedy and overambitious relatives at bay. He learnt that no one does any free favors and everything comes attached with a pprice tag. This awakening helped him transform into one of the greatest kings.

Its to his credit that he rose above personal devastation and turned adversity into opportunity. Yes, somewhere, indirectly, MA and BK created an emperor. It is providential they couldn't get any benefit from this.

Radhika so true.

MA & BK both taught Jalal such lessons he never forgot them. He learnt invaluable lessons of what NOT to do.

Jalal was totally dignified to the crass MA. Anybody else would have asked her some blunt Qs - about her dudh ka karz for example!

Maddy, thanks for supporting the personality traits with examples. Posted my views why her role in Rukkaiya's MC needs to be revealed in response to Abhay's post.
She did put on the best legal defense by using her hatred for a Rajvanshi begum to be the reason behind the conspiracies( inspired by SD? )...wonder why she failed to notice that in Jalal's eyes, doing anything to hurt his beloved Jodha is the ultimate crime.

I had never really credited MA and BK too much. If anything, BK created a tough , unbeatable soldier and nothing else.
MA , contrary to most forum folks, does not impress me either with her OTT acting, screaming, loud voice , shedding croc tears, apple polishing or maniacal laughing skills!
She is smarter of the lot and when she said, she is Wazeer-e-alia coz of her intellectual capabilites, I almost agreed.
I guess I'll agree with Radhika that they taught Jalal a tough life lesson on how much/less to trust.
I am hoping he will have a clear heart to heart talk to Jo and say that in future, he'll speak his mind with her sooner rather than later, before the incident becomes stale and moss, lichen, fungus attack ...
I'll credit his greatness only to him... not to Jo, BK, MA...and what have you...
